Police evacuated Old Trafford earlier after a suspicious package later identified as a ‘trophy’ was discovered at the ground.

A spokesman for Manchester United confirmed they had no idea how the trophy came to be at Old Trafford and it definitely wasn’t theirs.

Groundsman Simon Williams told us how he made the discovery.

“My suspicions were first aroused when I saw this big gold cup with Barclays ribbons on it just lying about, and I thought ‘There’s no reason that should be there’.

“Clearly nobody at Manchester United would have something like that nowadays, so it must have been brought in by an outsider.”

The owner of the trophy has not been identified, although police are confident it did not originate in Manchester.

Security services are understood to be wanting to talk to a man they describe as ‘suspicious’ as CCTV footage shows him as not having any tattoos on his neck.

Police described the evacuation of the ground as extremely orderly.

“It was dead easy,” we were told.

“We just put the new Stone Roses single on and everyone went home.”

I read on facetweet that the phone had a Phil Collins ringtone. We do know someone who resorts to violent acts over this particular artist, it's his trigger. Very suspect.

Hilarious, you do that all on your own?

This is Moses. Moses came from Sierra Leone for his 1st game & he was devastated when the match was called off due to bomb threat. But he is happy now thanks to MUFC fans that decided to pay for his ticket(including flight tix to return home) to watch the FA Cup final. Well done boys!

Brilliant :D

To be fair Sheffield United still didn't do their job and we had a FA cup final.
All true, but Swansea don't want to play some of their key players, who have played all season, who will still have to play at the Euros for a few meaningless games for them.

Like Sheffield United, we didn't do our job either. It's harsh, but Swansea didn't field their reserves today.

I missed the last few pages. Anything new and significant? We could do with a threadmark or two in here.

that is actually great, something good did happen today at least

There's a clear lack of character in the side, bunch of cowards, the likes of Keane and eric woulda disposed of the bomb themselves to save all the trouble after the game.
Roy Keane would of eaten the bomb, studs up tackle every pipe in the stand, grab the stewards by the scruff for not doing their jobs and then take the bomb sniffing dogs for a few laps of the pitch. Oh how I miss Roy, I wish we had his picture on our jersey instead of Chevrolet.

Newsthump. Way off the mark on this one considering the amount of trophies we have and that we're in a final. Lame

You sure you didn't just stumble on @BringNaniBack's blog?

someone on reddit translated it:

http://www.dagbladet.no/2016/05/15/nyheter/innenriks/rygge/evakuering/44242121/

From the newspaper Dagbladet:

A Ryanair flight headed to Manchester have been evacuated at Rygge airport, police officials in Oslo statet on Twitter.

The reason is what that the police say is suspicious behavior of two people.

"Police have control of the two persons. Passengers and baggage are also checked".

The police bomb squad is on its way from Oslo to conduct investigations.

"The bomb group is sent to Eastern Police District following a request for assistance", said Christian Krohn Engeseth, operations manager of the Oslo police, told Dagbladet.

Engeseth do not want to comment further about the suspicious persons and why the bomb group is sent, and refers to Eastern Police District for comments.

The plane was scheduled to take off at 18.55."

it seems random though. Surely just two idiots who had seen it on the news, and wanted to be public idiots. Hope they get slapped with a huge fine.

A draw would take us above Southampton into 5th place. That means, if I'm not mistaken, we'd qualify for the Europa League group stage, whereas 6th sees us enter at last qualifying round thing. Of course, if we win the FA Cup we'd be in the group stage anyway. So perhaps playing the reserves on Tuesday and resting the better players and going all out for the FA Cup is best. If everything goes wrong and we end up in the qualifying round, that's not a disaster - we'd have to be really bloody awful to go out of the Europa League then.

I was going to say "play the kids on Tuesday," and then I remembered that they're our best players <_<.

Could be a simple as firing a rifle attached to a remote controlled buggy at the object.
They tend to use a thing like a pneumatic bolt gun, the aim is to destroy the detonator whilst keeping as much of the device intact as possible for forensic examination.

I can't remember why, but the robot is traditionally called a "wheelbarrow".

That is ace. Chuffed for him. Great gesture and great for him to experience that. His original tweet went viral and he was getting the dogs abuse because of it, because the majority of people who use Twitter to talk about football are vicious, poisonous people. It was very sad to see. Glad he can stick two fingers up at the lot of them.

Not to mention the fact he's also being put up in Mancs free of charge by kind hearted reds in the meantime. His first trip to old Trafford didn't go quite as planned but I don't think he'll be forgetting it anytime soon. United! :-)

Tuesday - Saturday is three full days rest. We can deal with that

Tuesday to Saturday is still a decent enough break to recover for the players. Sure they could get injured but could also get injured in training later in the week.

They used the skills of WWII in NI, Helmand and Basra. Are you being serious?

The is from Wiki, "From 7 September 1940, one year into the war, London was bombed by the Luftwaffe for 57 consecutive nights.[7] More than one million London houses were destroyed or damaged and more than 40,000 civilians were killed, almost half of them in London"

If you bear in mind that 1 in 10 didn't explode and that 30,000 bombs fell on London, between September 1940 and November 1940, your idea of NI, Helmand and Basra clearly isn't in the same league.

I can't believe I am even arguing this with you.
For fear of being officious, I'll be short with this. If you don't see my point or agree, well, cheers then. :)

The Blitz clearly had a larger scale than either Basra or Helmand. However, the guard has changed several times in the last 70 years. Furthermore, those were military munitions--which are vastly different than suspicious packages and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Yes, there are fundamentals that invariably passed down as part of modern British bomb squads' birthright, but I wouldn't get carried away with the association.

NI, Basra and Helmand were different and more modern animals. While not as busy as the Blitz, ritish military bomb squads faced plenty of IEDs. Especially in Basra and Helmand, these were often concealed or disguised. They had to identify, approach, assess and deal with them. IEDs are never exactly the same; they tend to vary quite a bit. There were to manuals available to tell you exactly what it was and how to deal with it as there were for German bombs.

I get your point that the Blitz was formative and still evident in British bomb teams. There's no arguing that, but your argument just ignores too much.

This is something I've researched and dealt with in my professional life. So yes, I am being serious. If you still reject my conclusion, no worries. We both have bigger fish to fry than this argument. :)

I actually think the reception will be worse for LVG now we haven't qualified.
