And if we get someone in, have a couple good games then crash straight back down to reality what then? Could be even worse.
Sorry, this is pathetic. So there is no football manager in the world who can do better than Ole? THe guy that got Cardiff relegated and was plucked from the dizzying heights of FC Modle? Come on. THe squad is going backwards and Ole and team are out of their depth. No debate. We have just seen two of the most abject performances in the history of this club against our biggest rivals, despite spending £0.5bn under Ole and having the highest wage bill in the leage. THe problem until now is the idiot Woodward makes terrible appiontments. We need to change asap before this club becomes even more of a laughing stock in world football

I didn't say that.

I didn't say that.
Sure, but what are you saying then? Of course there is a risk, that's why a decent club has a proper football structure in place (liek Chelsea) than can survive changes in manager, then also football people in charge of hiring good managers. Which involves regular reviews and feelers out in the football world. Not the idiots we have that give Ole a new contrat and then have no plan when he proves to be out of his depth.

If you read my posts my argument is that the structure at our club is not sophisticated enough to be able to identify an adequate temporary manager so we're actually in agreement. I am saying that if they brought someone in now it would be an uninspired choice that might give us a slight manager bounce but long-term over the season we could be worse off.

I don't understand this argument though - that wasn't the case with Solsjkaer, in spite of him being an extremely poor manager

I am Ole out but he's technically rightish. We can bring in someone whose tactically as weak as Ole is but whose worse man management wise. For example there's rumors that top players are fed up with Ole's regime sub standard coaching and tactics but haven't turned against him because he's a nice lad. Now imagine if we replace him with Gary Neville or Roy Keane for example who are less nice then Ole is, who would retain the same coaching staff and who had criticized our players week in week out on live tv. Their very presence as no 1 would probably be the icing of the cake

Love how this figure is increasing by the day

Any news or pics of ole and rest back training this morning or has he decided to just tell them to stay off and just wait for txt about match on Saturday?

Just for anyone who's forgotten (like the person above), we lost 5-0 and 2-0 at home in 3 weeks against Liverpool and City.

How much worse does it have to get for people to realise we are entering a dangerous downward spiral.

The situation was different then, we'd be literally trying the same thing again, I doubt it will work under the situation now. And again, who do we get? There are no blindingly obvious candidates for temporary manager. It is likely they'll make the wrong appointment.

You doubt it would be the same? We've barely won a game recently?

This reads like club propaganda.

So surely now he is staying. what a shame.

Yep, it's safe to say. You can write off the credibility of most journalists on the back of this fiasco ie those saying we'll change or he had 3 games etc.

The only journalists that have proven to be true are those at the Athletic and Simon Stone. Unfortunately for all of us, not only did they say that they are sticking by Ole, but also that we're planning for a long term dynasty under him and haven't even considered changing managers. So Ole is at the wheel for a long, long time. Dark times ahead.

Noway he is our manager post January without a remarkable turn in form I just can't see happening. The club will want him to hang on but it is already so toxic I don't think they can much longer.

Don't tease me with Zidane rumours, only to have the board say "Ole will be given the next 3 billion trillion games to turn it around" when we lose to Watford.

So surely now he is staying. what a shame.

He was always going to get the opportunity to play Chelsea and see us through to the knockout stages of the CL.

If he loses convincingly against Chelsea (which I expect) and we dont make the knockout stages (which i personally think we may fail to do) I'd expect to see him go very quickly.

So who would you bring in?
Not my job. I'd go for a caretaker probably and since there are people at this club paid millions to do this job, they should have a shortlist.

I'd probably try Zidane first on a 18-month contract where he has a chance to leave for the France job if the opportunity opens up and we can prep in that time for a replacement like a Potter or Ten Haag or someone similar.

If Zidane does well he can stay for longer assuming the France job is not there and it also gets us to the end of Rinaldo's 2 years and gives us an outside chance to keep Pogba.

If Zidane doesn't work, go for someone short-term (like OGS should have been) and focus on the preference in the summer. Blanc is one choice but there's plenty out there for 7-8 months.

I'd also love if we went for someone like Potter but that'd never happen.

He had 3 games to save his job after 2 pathetic defeats to Leicester and Liverpool, got 1 lucky draw and gave City less of a game than anyone they have faced this season.

Apparently thats good enough to save his job... is signs how badly this club is run.

Yet fans think we will sack him anytime soon. The club know what they are doing, stay silent, say nothing, fans will get frustrated, they'll still turn up in numbers.

In the presser the question will be, How are you Ole?, How was your trip? How is Ronaldo?

I'd ignore the rumours of any manager, if I'm honest. It feels like the club have asked their pals in the media to come up with this stuff to distract fans away from the fact Ole hasn't and will not be sacked, by discussing the tactics and CV of managers till the cows come home.

I don't think it was ever the situation in hindsight. They never at any stage have even considered sacking Ole according to club mouth pieces. What happened to all those journos that said he had 3 games? We heard absolutely nothing after the 3 games. Just a load of spin to keep fans at bay. United are trying to control the fans and the narrative through the media.

So BAU then this week, rumours galore but nothing concrete. Radio silence from the board too. Ole in charge for Watford it seems.

I wish they'd just release pictures of Ole and his cheesy grin at Carrington...put us all out of our bloody misery.

It's the hope that kills you.

Of course we can bring an idiot and who has no clue how to coach a football team and we will be worse off. But if we can get someone like that Ralf bloke for the remainder of the season we would of course be much better off and he would put the foundation in place for the next manager in the summer.

The tweets from those pondlife sources are hilarious. Folks should just accept Ole is not going to be sacked right now. This could be a good thing long term as it could mean we get Ten Hag, who is the best candidate IMO.
This really defies logic. At the end of the season when we are in 10th or so place and approach Ten Haag, do you think he will agree to come or will he instead join a stable club which gives him an immediate shot at CL. Further do you think players like Haaland will care to join us?

How many managers have Chelsea gone through in the last 5 years? Is that a good structure?

Yep, which is why I do not take any spin as serious now. The Rodgers, Zidane stories are all irrelevant. If they wanted to make a change it would have been done a while back.

I can actually see Ole in charge till the end of the season.

Changing manager doesn't mean bad structure. Anyways structure is overrated, most have no idea what it is. They just decide whether the structure is good or bad based on how the team is doing, which depends on managers. In the end, having good manager = good structure.

Anyways coming to your post, hiring and firing managers is common in football. When the things are not going well, management should step in and make decisions. Retaining manager for years doesn't mean good structure, likewise changing them doesn't mean it's bad structure.

That's not gonna happen though. we were in relegation form for like half the season in 18/19 and still finished 6th.

The bigger problem is Ole finishing 4th with no trophies and the board deciding to keep him.

Erm.... due to points we got on account of new manager bounce innit?
We are sliding now, new manager should be brought in immediately before it becomes a free fall.

I'm interested to see what people think will happen if he stays.

I'd love a separate thread with a poll on where we'd finish in the PL. Mods, can someone confirm it'll be allowed to stay if I start a thread like that?

Just purely based on expectations for the rest of the season based on where we are right now.

We were in similar position in 2019-20 and 2020-21, ended up in top 4.

I think we will still finish top 4 but there is no point just trying to finish top 4.
