How he handled de beek is very poor. Not sure what was the point of wasting 35 million on the player who barely starts.

Also McT and de beek are around same age, one plays every game. So its not just age. It's weird tbh, the way de beek is treated.
Yh it's odd. McT you know what you get, he's not very good most of the time but he puts a shift in which Ole seems to think is how to win games.

Don't think so, any quality manager at 2nd tier club probably looks at us and thinks he could get us challenging for trophies within 6 months. We have a ridiculous squad atm. That's without even mentioning the prestige and the money that comes with the job.

We're not going to attempt to hire a second tier manager so these points are irrelevant.

One thing is clear, media doesn't have a fecking clue. They do know that fans are desperate for sacking so articles like those in Sun and today in Marca will keep popping up. They won't say much but will get lots of clicks.

So, Ole is going to be the manager vs Watford and mostly the sacking will be after yet another disasterclass at Stamford bridge. Let's just accept that for now.

Its odd that he doesn't change things when we are not winning, we have players like de beek warming the bench and CM is our weakest area.

The way he uses the squad is very poor.

Yeah I was wondering if it was inherited from Malcolm? I've always taken little interest in the family structure.

Maybe I'm assuming too much that they'd give more of a shit about a prime asset or understand Woodward's shortcomings.
The commercial side ostensibly appeared to improve around the time of the Glazers, with all the tyre partners etc...but the mushrooming Sky TV deal must've accounted for a lot of that.
Malcolm! I've been calling him Avram the past few days.

I just don't get the feeling they know what to do and are reliant on others to see them through. Unfortunately, those they've entrusted are not competent... and here we are.

Doing the background on them would be right up your street, no? Would be amazed if they're displaying any nous or savvy across their ventures. If they are, you could at least say they just don't understand the inner workings of football, but my feeling is that it goes deeper than that.

They could be making so much more off Manchester United by just having it run correctly. I don't think it's a mere oversight that they cannot get it right after 7 years (Daddy's death) of trying.

Been saying it for a long time - Rodgers would do a great job here. His teams play good football, he promotes the yoof and it seems like players enjoy playing for him. As for the liverpool connection - I wouldn't worry about it. He was run out of there after a disastrous end to the season so he's not exactly a legend for them. I think he has improved greatly since then too.

It's an opinion piece, I don't think he knows anything. He literally says:

What the plan is, in my opinion, is a move for Brendan Rodgers in the summer, although if results continue to dip, don't rule out a move for the Leicester City boss during the season.

EDIT: didn't realise somebody had already said this, my bad

The problem is that there is no free manager around, who would be perfect for United.

But this is a silly argument, mate. What's the difference between now and the summer? Rodgers will still be at Leicester, Poch will still be at PSG, any good manager will still be in their current job. The bottom line is that we will have to pay to get a new manager in and we don't want to do it. Pathetic from our club - absolutely zero ambition. If we had any, we would have replaced Ole a few weeks ago.

Again I have to admit that Goldbridge is right, if the club want Rodgers then get him now not in the fecking summer. It's probably just spin. They're still hoping that Ole can ride out this storm and secure top 4 so they don't have to sack him.

They must know though that if Ole doesn't win his next four games he cannot continue otherwise it will be chaos. And we're not beating Chelsea and Arsenal in this form.

Rangnick as an interim with Ten Hag taking over in the summer and Rangnick moving to the DoF role sounds pretty fecking good to me. But it's not corresponding to the brilliant idea of our board to keep control of footballing matters which has led us to such great success since Fergie went.

Obviously I could be wrong, but it wouldnt surprise me

I suppose the real question to ask of OGS is, given the perceived weaknesses of the team at the end of 2020/21, was Sancho, Varane and Ronald really what you needed?

As discussed, I can’t believe Ronald was a football decision, I’m not sure where Sancho is supposed to fit in given the uncertainty of the teams set up and Varane at the age of 28 was seen as surplus to requirements by Madrid likely because amongst other things, of his mistakes in the loss to City in the CL.

The tinkering with formation, the persistence in choosing players who don’t perform and the resultant loss of confidence especially in those who can’t even get a look in smacks of a manager who doesn’t know what to play, let alone who to play. Playing a defensive 5 at the back is certainly not the solution. Time to put OGS out of his misery.

Then who? Surely its Ed Woodward and co calling the shots.

You can't guess, really? Keep in mind that things like "calling the shots" in prestigious organizations like United is never as straightforward as it may seem. It's far more complex than hitting your fist on the table and shouting "my money, my call". There are powers that be at United that supported Moyes till the banners started flying at OT and then tried to force Giggs into the role. When that didn't work out, they presented Giggs as the apprentice who will learn his trade at the side of an experienced manager and take over after three seasons. Now, they have one of their own at the helm, and they are not going to let him go so easily.

Somewhere in between is the only manager that clearly wasn't their choice, and that manager's lukewarm -at best- / traumatic -at worst- tenure could be the reason why Woodward's gone into hiding. Mourinho was his choice and his feck up. It might be the reason why Conte, as a manager with similar traits (defensive tactics/short-term managerial cycle) could not be "sold" to Joel, despite the latter seeing that we find ourselves in a predicament right now. Yes, Woodward doesn't understand football well. And that's probably why he'll not put his hand in the fire, but he will sit this one out instead.

To be clear, i am not insinuating that there's any malice. But there's definitely a power struggle going on. There's a concentrated effort, by some, to convince the fanbase that although there should be specific requirements to become United's manager a good CV should not be one of them. It's happened to Liverpool already, and they had to spend a quarter of a century watching us lifting one trophy after the other to finally learn their lesson.

Can he really do any better than Ole against Tuchel / Klopp / Pep / Conte? His tactics in big games are to just to hoof it to Vardy and have him chase.

We are finished if he comes in .. if they knew they couldn't do any better than Rodgers, they should've just gone for Conte instead.

We're struggling to beat Watford or Palace too, mate. Everyone knows it - we are in freefall. I agree about Goldbridge too - listened to his show this morning and he's right. If we really wanted to replace Ole, we could have done it already. The board don't want to front the cost of replacing him so they're crossing their fingers he turns it around - which of course, he won't. The irony of it is that if we wait too long to replace Ole, top 4 will be gone, no CL money, and it will probably cost more than replacing Ole now.

Think that's very unfair to Rodgers. You want an example of how Rodgers measures up to Ole - look no further than what, 4 weeks ago, when they absolutely played us off the park and put 4 past us. They weren't 'hoofing it to Vardy' much that day, they played through us at will. Conte is a good manager for sure- I agree that we missed the boat on that one. But Rodgers would do an equally good job at United, imo.

Honestly I dont think the Glazers are too fussed how long it takes they just want it to be mathematically impossible to get Top 4 which, on current form wont be too far after Christmas. I think they will spend enough to keep it going in the Summer but truth is they will just keep milking the business dry (while dishing out "enough" money on transfers and wages) until its not as profitable and then they will just sell.

There will be in the summer.

Right now there are actually plenty of coaches who would do a better job until the end of the season, with a big bonus for top 4. Fonseca wants to work in England and could be likely be persuaded. Lucien Favre, too. They’re better than OGS, so why not try for 6 months? Doing okay at United for 6 months would guarantee whoever took the interim job a good position elsewhere straight after. That would be a much better idea than hoping Ole scrapes top 4.

The lack of foresight and long-term thinking from the club is astonishing but it doesn't shock any of us anymore I think.

Why is this thread still going strong? The clown isn’t getting the sack now or anytime in the next 2 weeks.

It's crazy man - many laud United as this money making machine. Truth be told, they could probably make much more if they had some intelligent people in there with even a hint of knowledge of football.

Look at the fecking state of the people employed by our club top to bottom.

Football has left us behind.

If we ever get back to the top of the game it will be in spite if the cretins running the shit show.

We are a brand, that's it. The people at the club (including Ole) don't give a shit about anything other than their bank balance - and we're starting to see the dividends of their hard work now.

There was absolutely nothing remotely close to acceptable standards put out by our manager against City. It was the most cowardly thing any of our managers have ever done in the history or the club - and he's been rewarded with a holiday.

Club full of leeches from top to bottom.

Would be a dream scenario, however the idiots in charge of the club will go for Rodgers and keep the useless back room team.

We should be looking at ways to the current owners out of the club

Rodgers has been backed and is in a pretty long contract, 2025 I think, he has been treated very well by the club their and I feel he probably feels he owes the club to stay for the season. Poch has absolutely no reason to leave midseason as he could win his first major trophies and PSG triggered his extension in the summer.

Do you expect anything else from this lot? They cannot even organise a piss up in a pub?

Both would happily join United in the summer. It's naive to believe otherwise.

Huge salary + bonuses, transfer market backing, a board of directors that is proven to give you time, the sheer quality of the squad in terms of talent and ability, the lure of United, so on so forth.

It has to be one of Rodgers or Southgate. Simply no way we would not feck up yet another appointment.

Of that I have no doubt, that's why I think Ole is still there. You cant sack Ole without the entire coaching staff, and you cant hire a complete interim coaching staff... there in lies the problem.

Fair warning, I'm probably gonna cry genuine man tears if we appoint Brenda.

I've already the sniffles at the mere thought of it. It's all downhill from here.

Hmmm. Many would say either of those two would be a feck up. I would be absolutely gutted if we hired Southgate.

Think that's what he's saying - no way this board won't be clueless/incompetent and hire one of those two.

But yeah, Rogers would be bad, Southgate would be an absolute disaster.

If they were looking for someone to make the step up, wouldn't Potter be a better candidate? Also, the chances of him having a portrait of himself in his living room is much lower.

I have no idea if this is true, but I can believe it.

Im starting to doubt that we will.

If we hire Rodgers, any good that Ole has built here will go to waste. Whats the reason for hiring him? That he’s British? Because other than that he’s a known choker, both with liverpool and with leicester.

If we hire Rodgers, we will stay stuck in a cycle of misery for the next 5 years minimum.

I hate our board and ownership. Ole should have been sacked by now, but no we’ll wait and then…get Rodgers? Oh F*ck off
