There’s a few posts comparing our current predicament with pre 1990 under SAF.

On one hand it sounds spurious because of what SAF had achieved with Aberdeen. On the other hand SAF had a good squad and did very badly for a long time (when you look at 89-90, things were diabolical even compared to this season and that’s undeniable).

The similarity is the apparent crossroads that the board faced then and now, their convictions being sorely tested under intense media pressure. Do they believe they have the right man? Does a dodgy spell and one terrible result change that?

SAF became a great manager and proved it over a long period. There was a time when he was widely considered to be inept, not up to it and out of his depth. I suppose most people don’t remember those days but believe me there was nothing good about them.

I wanted SAF out then, I want Ole out now, because we can only go on what we’re seeing, that’s just the way it goes.
the quality of SAF squad then compared to what OLE has now needs to be considered. The current squad is stacked with quality and he cant get a tune out of them. The better the squad gets the more out of his depth he comes and worse the results get.

This is by design. United are like a family business it seems. Jobs for mates, fat contracts. Woodward brought in his friend from Uni. Ole brought in his friends. Ole friends protecting him in the media. Whole Glazer family on the board of directors. It is a farce.
And all that funded by idiot fans ! As that is what we are for them !

Supposedly rumors we're going 3 ATB and Telles is starting?

So all it took was ruining any chance of winning a trophy for him to stop being stubborn? I just want the bad man gone....

What! How do you work that out? How about he wins the next 3 and loses the next 6 does he deserve it then? He doesnt deserve anything, he has to earn it and winning 2 games has earned feck all
Nah, Ole is a legend you know, a win here or there every month or two is alright.

I'm just reading through this thread from the last time I was in it, and this post made me laugh as we're now mid-day Saturday, four days after it, and not a peep out of the club.

If there's one trophy we're always in the running for these days, it's most incompetently run club in the world. At least the likes of Barcelona are the footballing incarnation of a guy off on a coke-fuelled binge who has no idea where the night will take him, but is eager to find out - we're utterly adrift and bumble from one malady to another, by contrast in a way that is unfathomable for a club of such magnitude. In fact it beggars belief that after all this time the Glazers haven't figured out that you get football people in to run the club whilst you sit back and pilfer the profits.

I don't know which is worse: how we are on the pitch, or how we are off it. Actually, I do - in a grand scale of how clubs are run, we're surely somewhere around mid-table in league 2.
To the mma thread

If he changes formation, he should be sacked. If he doesn't, he should be sacked. Any result, he should be sacked.

He's proven he's not good enough and I just wish players like Martial were given the time this guy has been.

If we think back to the last 18 months and how it could have been with a decent coach/manager in place.

1. Semi final Carabao cup
2. Semi final FA Cup
3. Semi final Europa League
4. Semi final Carabao cup
5. Final of Europa League
6. Second in premiership

With Ole we failed in every single one of those. With someone like Conte in charge id say be bag at least 2 trophies. There is no way he would have lost to villa real. That was the final straw for me as the in game management was appalling . Winning the next three games will not change anything.
This is so shocking really we should have done so much better there.

He's playing a back 5 now, bring in Conte who actually has expertise in playing a back 5 instead of ole

So, guys, is this it? Is it his final?

I would like to know your estimation: If Man United do not win tonight, or let's say have a somewhat unconvincing draw, will Solskjaer actually be sacked? :(

And please DON'T bother answering "He should", "I hope so", "I hope not", "He should have been long before" or any of that. I just want to know what you think WILL happen, not what you think should.
I want to know how, to your best estimation, the club is feeling and will operate.

Bloody coward who is trying to only look out for himself by setting up not to lose with little ambition to play for a win today

We will draw and he will stay for now. Atalanta and City have to finish him off

How can you pick 7 defensive players and then put your two slowest/least mobile forwards up front

This is just so far beyond what the club even put up with from Jose, and he was pretty much deliberately trying to get sacked for 6 months.

We shouldn't appoint Conte, because he doesn't play with the United way.

Ole who plays the United way :

*plays 5 at the back + 2 defensive midfielders because his job is under pressure.

*starts two +35 years old strikers up front.

A draw would be a terrible result given our situation and fixtures.

With the team he's picked if we don't win he yet again looks like a fecking embarrassing idiot...and I'm not exactly sure what the plan is with that team? The only way we win is through sheer luck

The Sancho thing on its own is sackable. He chased him for 2 years and doesn't even know how to use him. He's irresponsibly wasted £80m of his employer's money.

I actually really like this line up from him!

It’s realistic and back to what he knows - counter attacking.

Spurs will get turned over today, no doubt. Shame he didn’t line up like that against Liverpool!

Good to see him making changes and being more realistic of where his talents lie.

Well surely we aren’t going to concede today with a 5 man defense + 2 defensive midfielders, right?

…right? :nervous:

I, perhaps naively, think we'll win today.

If we get ran through with this formation against a Nuno team, Ole should tender his resignation. He's gone full Southgate, so we should at least be able to prevent them getting at us.

He won’t be sacked until its mathematically impossible to get into the CL!

He survived a 5-0 loss to Liverpool. He'll never get sacked.

Whatever formation, he better win. I can't take another uninspired performance . It is not about the formation, it is the tactics and instruction to each player that determine how we win. I doubt Ole has any.

I've been broadly in favour of what Solksjaer has done since becoming manager. He bolstered our defence and attack with a mix of experience and exciting young talent. But it's all gone stale since last season and players have regressed under his coaching.

What really annoys me is that he's benched all of our wide forwards, our strongest area of strength, in order to shut up shop against a Spurs side that is notoriously bad at creating chances. He's going against his own stated philosophy as he can't actually coach in a way that gets the best out of Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood etc.

We'll win this, Ole will be here until the end of the season and more than likely be here next season

Pray today is his last game.

Praying with you, but I think lady luck is on his side once again with City and Liverpool somehow dropping points. This is what I'd feared when we failed to sack him immediately after Sunday.

More realistic, counter attacking side, you say?

What with no pace???

The team selection is absolutely ridiculous and he should hold his head in utter shame

He is now a disgrace and should be sacked for picking such a team.

Guardiola and klopp would pick a team to win with utds talent at their disposal.

Im sick of ole and his complete lack of know how.

Fecking disgraceful

So, if he wins this game will you admit you were wrong?

It’s a good line up for where his talents lie as a manager.

He has no talents as a manager at a top level. His CV speaks for itself. He is totally out of depth and is playing ultra cautiously against a vastly inferior team. His idea is to not concede and save his skin. Will it be 5 at the back plus 2 DMs against all teams now? Is it where his talents lie?
