I don't. I even specifically stated that it was not a Ole comment, and you just jumped on it and decided it was.

That's because it's an ole sack thread. Why would you post it here if it wasn't about ole? Stop trolling the forum, it's pathetic

“3 years of excuses and it’s still crap… ta ra Fergie” read the banner held aloft as Manchester United fell to a home defeat to Crystal Palace in December 1989.

That loss was part of a calamitous 11-match winless league run that stretched from November to February, ratcheting up the pressure on manager Alex Ferguson.

The Scot had shone as Aberdeen manager but big spending had yet to bring results following his arrival at Old Trafford in 1986.

United slumped home in 13th place in the First Division during the 1989-90 season, but the FA Cup brought some much-needed respite – and provided the catalyst to an unprecedented era of success.

Now please dont take this as a Ole comment, its not. The situations are nearly identical, its a amusing look into the past. Please don't get offended.
Except for the insane difference of experience, curriculum and knowledge of Fergie compared Ole. The situation is identical, the men couldn't be farther apart.

3 years without a trophy
spent big
struggling to win
Fans clamoring for the firing of the manager.

The article from 1989 and todays situation is nearly identical. There is no deeper meaning behind a look back in history. No assumption that Ole will take us forther, no comparison to Sir Alex. Its just a look at history and compare that to whats happening this week.

The problem is that you can mention the same article for Lampart, Bruce, and every single one of the dozens of managers that are sacked everywhere in the world each year. Would any of these become like SAF if given 6 years?

nothing is comparable. The managers, squad, life, society. Absolutely every facet of life is totally different. You can’t just say the two managers ability is the only difference! There wasn’t a harem of overly emotional forum posters back then desperate for the blonde haired new signing to be given an extended run in defensive midfield despite doing zero to warrant it for example. You can’t pick and chose one difference and rely on that to make a point. The overarching situation is the same - managers under huge pressure facing the sack unless they turn it round ASAP. I hope Ole does.

No but there were people with banners in the stadium asking for manger to be sacked. Ability of manager is defining factor though, at some point people have to face the reality Ole isn’t the next SAF or Pep or Klopp etc etc. Time and patience were an advantage with SAF because he was a great manager, with Ole it’s just a waste.

What SAF achieved in any situation has no relevance to Ole because comparing them as managers is pointless.

IMO @pocco has called it absolutely bang on…

Ole’s going nowhere. The Glazers and Woodward have their man.

Unless the team literally down tools completely, which they won’t do as they like him and I think in general they’re a good bunch of lads.

For whatever reason Ole’s obviously worth too much to the Glazers for them to remove him after that Liverpool game at OT. He’s going nowhere.

The biggest difference is managerial ability, Fergie had a ton of it while evidence points to Ole having far less.

Schools really need to start teaching kids some basic statistical concepts like anomalies, outliers, sample size, confidence intervals, and extrapolation.

Example:
- We’ve hired Mourinho, and look how that worked out: Sample size = 1. Confidence in extrapolating to new a Mourinho-like candidate for the job in different circumstances and at a different time = close to 0
- People wanted SAF sacked, we were patient, and look how that worked out. Sample size = 1. Confidence in extrapolating to new a manager who shares very little with SAF, in different circumstances and at a different time = close to 0

I can go on, but you all are smart and get the point. Stop saying this stuff because it’s the equivalent of saying, “You say smoking is bad yeah? How come my grandpa smoked like a chimney since he turned 8 years old and lived till he was 99 and was healthy?”

If they keep him for the season and we get top 4, they still get their dividend.

Is it alright if I bring Hitler into this? Cause I wanted to mention something about the failed coup of 1923, and how there's a lesson in there about writing people off to soon, but I'm not sure if I should.

Did SAF manage another English club before joining us?

I meant if some of you have time to preach patience, you're on the wrong forum. Cardiff City forum is where you should debate at if you're comparing Ole to SAF.

Jesus literally said he is the son of god, his followers watched him die, and still believed and propagated his message.

Had they given up then, Christianity wouldn’t be as big as it is today would it?

Stick by Ole (till he dies, and beyond).

This thread is like a who's who on who hates the manager.

I'm sorry for wanting to have a walk down memory lane, I should have known better than to have a normal discussion about events in this place.
Nah, you can stop with this nonsense right now. Ole is still a legend of the club and still loved as a player. But as a manager he is lacking for a long time, apart from some stints.

We majoraly play boring, stiff and awful football for three years.

Nobody hates Ole, he's still a club legend, but he's not a good coach and should be gone asap. It's clear as day and has been for some time, but for the love and respect we have for the man we turned a blind eye and gave a vote of confidence.

Ole to Fergie, now Ole to Jesus.

They don't want to sack any manager until top 4 is out of reach as that's all they care about. Plus I'm sure they insert a clause into every manager's contract that makes them cheaper to sack if they don't get top 4.

However, in this case I think media and fan pressure will force them to sack Ole sooner than they'd like to.

Its not a comment on Ole.
Ah! So you’re comparing SAF not being sacked following a defeat to Palace in 1989 to O’Farrell being sacked following a (5-0, interestingly) defeat to Palace in 1972.

Now I understand :)

So are you saying Ole should or shouldn’t be sacked? There are precedents for both.

If they did, they would have done so by now.

We just suffered the most embarrassing defeat in arguably our club's history on the back of a string of horrific results/performances and the club didn't sack him.

We lost 5-0 to Liverpool at Old Trafford and they let their foot off the pedal.

It's a joke how he wasn't sacked.

It really is incompetence of the highest order.

Video is unavailable, which is good because it was probably something really dumb that has no basis in defending why ole.is still employed
At a guess, it's probably about Fergie almost being fired and how we could be doing the same to Ole. Which would utter tripe because Fergie had already won the European Cup with Aberdeen vs Real Madrid, plus the Super Cup against Hamburg and broken the Old Firm monopoly in Scotland. Whereas Ole of course has won a few trophies for Molde and taken Cardiff down. It's absolutely ridiculous the two are being compared. Pure spin and utterly disgusting. Treating us like absolute fools.

Ah the good old days when United were a sacking club and sacked O’Farrell and Wilf both within 18 months of being hired. Trigger happy, very Chelsea-like.

Or when they sacked their most successful manager post-Busby to hire some young Scottish manager.

Are there any examples of players that were super poor at clubs for years but then stayed and suddenly became Ballon d'or winners?
If so, what a mistake we made selling Bebe!

That's about as close a comparison as the current crap about Fergie almost being fired and Ole.
Ole is not Fergie.

Can't believe people are swallowing this horseshit and trotting it out to defend Ole.

I've never wanted to be so wrong about something my entire life!

But in the past I have been cynical of everything the club has done or said under Woodward and been proven right many times. Case in point when we first started briefing about a DoF after a poor transfer window. I called bullshit and said it's a distraction tactic. I was right.

I've learnt to read between the lines with Woodward. Sense what I feel he would really want, which we know in this case, and question "why would he leak this news now?". Because I 100% believe he does leak things to try to paint a narrative. There are a lot of journalists who seem to have a cushty number with the club these days, getting bits of inside info. I think they're on an understanding with him that they'll get stories to the supporters when he needs them to.

In this case, I think we took nearly 48 hours after the game, not to decide whether to sack Ole, but actually how to navigate this situation and keep Ole. The solution? Say he's got 3 games, where he'll definitely win at least one anyway against an out of turn Spurs or injury ridden Atalanta, and then spin the shit out of that result as some glorious coming of age for this team. Job safe, fans silenced for another couple of months.

What has become apparent is that our owners don't have any ambition to win the league.
None of the articles or opinions I am seeing are even trying to make an argument that the Glazers think Ole can win titles.

No, they’re not identical at all so stop talking bollocks. Ole is nowhere near to what Sir Alex was in terms of managerial experience/potential.

Ole is fecking clueless and there’s not much to add to that.

You do realise that history doesn’t always repeat itself right? The sooner the likes of you and the club itself realise that the better.

Some people just like to live in the past. They think that just giving any manager time regardless of their talent and skills would turn them into a SAF.

The Mitten piece has me thinking about the prospect of Ole just riding this out and continuing as we are and it makes me feel sick. The term 'banging your head against a brick wall' comes to mind. If they stick two fingers up at us all and do just that then I hope there's the biggest fecking uproar from the supporters over it. Sick of letting them get away with so much bullshit.

Same for me. Mitten can feck off alongside a bunch of toxic Top Reds out there, who are as deluded as Donald Trump supporters these days.

All the Glazers see is 3 points off 4th place. So to them "whats the big deal". If Ole rides this out then I really hope we finish outside the top 4. I couldn't give a crap about top 4. Even as clueless as Ole is I think with this squad it would be pretty hard to finish below 4th. That would probably mean a bumper new contract for our current manager.

I think you want to walk down memory lane because he is a fellow Norwegian. If our manager was Sheringham, you wouldn't be that bothered, even though he is every much a United legend as Ole.

Go to a Cardiff forum and they will laugh at you for even mentioning OGS in the same breath as SAF. They have him down as one of the worst Cardiff managers ever. Bought a load of players that ended up being duds and set them back a few years due to the money he spent on them.

Apparently it was still felt when Warnock eventually got them promoted back to the Premier League that they were paying for the OGS tenure. Vincent Tan gave him SERIOUS backing.

That's the killer, really. The fact that just about anyone who doesn't have a connection to United knows he's not good enough. It's just our own deluded ones who are still in for him.

By come back I mean get to how we were just over 6 weeks ago- looking forward, on the up, challenging, being a top tier team. It’s absolutely possible. Everyone is being so dramatic as expectations have shot through the roof. If all the posters on this forum believe ole is so substandard why on earth did any one get the expectations we can even challenge for a title, let alone win one? Cos we have a 36 year old talisman? Many on here need to get a serious grip it’s contradiction after contradiction
Because if you pump in enormous amount of money and bring 3 world class players, expectations will naturally rise, it's that simple.
I always thought he is inept, but now, I genuinely think he is the worst manager in the league by some distance.
As someone already said, once we sack him, there is no way he will ever manage in the PL again, I even doubt some championship teams will touch him.

Yes, yes and yes.

I completely agree mate, with every word.

These are my feelings on how Woodward operates also - I just find it strange that after so long, so few people seem to be able to see through it.

When you can see it, and you get proven right a few times, it's a damn depressing place to be as a supporter. Knowing that we're about to get played like a fiddle once again. I just hope I'm wrong. I think this will be his worst decision of the lot as I think Ole might be here for years, let alone weeks. Especially if his like minded friend Richard Arnold takes the reigns when he does leave, or the decision is left to Solskjaer's mate Darren Fletcher.

 Identical, though. You gotta love it.

Apparently Ole's relegation with Cardiff and the Molde fans wanting him to leave for three years, on top of three years of failure here is exactly the same as Sir Alex winning three league titles, four league cups, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (vs. Madrid no less) and the UEFA Super Cup for Aberdeen, and then having no success three years into his United reign.

No one has won it apart from the Old Firm since, either - it’s quite an achievement. I can’t comprehend when people compare Sir Alex to likes of Ole, Moyes et al. If it was Klopp or something, I’d understand but Ole…

Who do you really support mate? Are you a dipper? Or is it City?

I’m guessing dipper.

I'm still astounded by how relaxed some are about him getting sacked eventually. He's still here after the darkest day some of us have ever experienced as a United fan. That alone makes me utterly terrified at the prospect of the man being given another chance.
It's mode due to the sheer ineptitude of our leadership over the past 8 years. At some point you just get used to it. I'm sure fans will express their anger as we continue to achieve feck all. But I think our backing Ole has sapped fans of any hope or ambition that they had for us.

The situations are nothing alike. United are now a financial behemoth of the game largely due to Sir Alex with an incredible array of talent in their ranks but held back by an average manager. Your adulation of Ole is absurd and your comment is indeed about him.
