Ole has no system that I can see ..... or do I just need better glasses?

Same problem as always:

We struggle to play out of defence under a high and structured press. When we do, we struggle against a low block...

We struggled to create anything, and we bought Bruno. But is our only way to improve to buy players that knows how to play a certain way, create chances or move intelligently?

This is why i think OGS either needs replacing or getting someone to help him with coaching a passing pattern etc.

It's not kneejerking if those knees have been jerking for 18 months.
Yeah, I agree. I am in the OGS in camp still but I agree with you. I still don't see the master plan, the patterns of play, the defensive determination, the winning mentality. It's been a while and we still seem to be loose.

Leeds cut through Liverpool repeatedly. It isn’t an issue of player quality

We're so boring. Thats our style. To be boring and shit. Almost 2 years in the job and we play the exact same way as we did under our last 3 managers.

I love Ole but to me it's always been clear that he'd be more of a builder than someone who will get us to the top. He's creating a better, young team with a good culture within it, which then hopefully a more tactically sound manager can take advantage of.

He simply isn't tactically great enough to turn us into title winners.

You can’t really say it’s knee jerking when it’s been 21 months into Ole’s tenure can you? It’s obvious that he doesn’t have a clear playing style/system like all the top managers/coaches have.
Place full of experts about playing systems. seems there are a ..lots of FIFA Pro coaches over here :)

They're laughing because Man Utd as a club are failing.

They're laughing at having Solskjaer as a manager.

They're not laughing at Utd fans who want better - only a WUM would suggest otherwise.

They’re laughing at a bunch of whiney little tarts going into meltdown online every week.

Let's face it. He's not not good enough. Look at his CV ffs!

Leeds cut through Liverpool repeatedly. It isn’t an issue of player quality
I was not referring to the quality of the player, but of the knowledge to play/create/pass/move etc. As in Bruno directed everything when it came to attacking at Sporting CP. So he did the same for us when he was signed and all we had to do was give him the ball in the final third. And it is the same reason as for why we need Sancho: He is a very intelligent player that knows how to create against a parked bus.

Not that this helps anything since our team are incapable of bringing the ball into the final third without making high-risk actions/dribbles/passes.

Solksjaer's system relies so much on individual quality that when the players aren't at their very best the entire side suffers disproportionately.

The manager has been let down so much by Woodward and the Glazer's for not securing his targets, but we should still expect so much more from our coaches. A player driven system is only as good as what's out there. They should have a fall back option.

The problem the last 7 years is that there is no plan in general. From coaching to transfers. We needed a RB and we brought someone who cant pass. When he is unavailable we dont play a natural attacking RB (Dalot) but TFM. We needed a CB and we bought Lindelof. We need a RW and we only have one target. We needed a LB the last 2 years and we still haven't bought one. We retain players that are barely top 10 level (Lingard, Jones), we over estimate others (Rashford) and we give fat contract to players after 5 decent games (Williams). FFS we have 4 gks.
The manager's role is to utilize and improve our players and sometimes to identify targets. Noone of our last 4 managers have done it successfully and they are part of the problem. Unfortunately, the problem is more institutionally..

People blaming the board has a point too. But any decent coach would be able to coach or get these players to play a lot better than this. They don't know how to play and there is no pattern or moving into space. This is down to coaching. I don't see anything of this when we play. It's all down to individual players now. He doesn't know how to change the system at all.

Hes spent a feck tonne of money and we're shite. He won't get anything out of Sancho or anyone else he signs.

If people think this is kneejerk, they need to go back and actually watch how we played for 80% of last season. Outside of the one good run we had between February and mid restart, we were horrible.

We all know how it works...wait for a bad 45 minutes to tell everyone you were right.
I ve been lurking over here for years and can recognize some one like you from miles away :)
As expected, mate.

Players just look out of shape. Regardless we have too many overrated English players. Nothing new here, Maguire & Rashford are a joke. Honesty we just need Sancho in for Rashford, AVB back, & Bailly/Smalling in for Maguire.

Yeah. Woodward and co are at fault for not getting the squad closer to Liverpool/City, but Ole is at fault for not being able to beat Palace.

The fact it's every week gives enough of an idea how bad a state the club is in

You’ve lost your first prem game since Jan, partly to the dodgiest pen decision ever made! I wouldn’t worry too much you just look rusty.

That’s a fair comment but we clearly need a centre half and right winger. To have a selection of Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly and Jones at centre half is really poor and to pinning our hope on James or Greenwood to play right wing is a travesty.
I cannot for the life in me find an excuse for this.

This seems like a massive exaggeration but it must be said that they do have an identifiable style of play. They seem to not be able to lock it down as of yet but when it comes to attack, its pretty impressive and i would say none of those players (maybe phillips) are better than the united team today.

This is why a good progressive coach is important.

They’ve played two games and already conceded seven goals...and that’s before they burn out. Not sure that’s the best example.

They have lost their best defender, and some of their new signings are still gelling. Given that you guys conceded 3 goals today, it is not that far off.

 Barcelona has always played boring tippy-tappy football. Bielsa's Leeds is nothing like that, his football is actually fast-paced and good to watch

Agreed.

I don't think it's this single result. Look at the performance for majority of his time here.
Even in our decent run, how many games can you say we looked like a real quality team?

Ole is a good motivator, but a shitty coach. In order for us to win under him we need a full world class squad, something like Real Madrid under Zidane. Where players just need to be keep in harmony and their talent will carry the team.

Having a medium-good squad with just a motivational coach won't make us win. Its been 18 months now and we still have no proper way of playing, the attack looks improvised every single game. We're not coached and our players are simply not good enough to carry the team consistently just by their own creativity.

I like this post, completely agree with you.

This is the thing. Right after lockdown ended, we had a few games where we created tons of chances, looked like scoring with every attack - but even that fizzled out fairly quickly. At Villa away we were awful until a dodgy penalty; Southampton totally outplayed us at Old Trafford; we were mostly terrible at Palace though the attackers pulled some magic out of the hat; we were shite against West Ham and didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory against an injury-hit Leicester team in terrible form, though admittedly we managed to get the job done.

Back then the excuse was tiredness; before that, it was injuries; now it's that we haven't had a pre-season and haven't had transfers... there's always something. Maybe this is simply our level. This is the ceiling under Ole: some decent purple patches amid the general struggle.

Exactly. This is how we play. It's how we've played since the March after he took over.

Deeper it'sole's lack of mixing the play.
You cannot morph his desired style onto the team.

He had different ways of playing earlier on but now we simply do not have any different ways of utilizing long balls and crosses.

I did like using Ighalo and Mctominay at RB to attack by pushing the midfielders higher but alas too late.

Will he ever understand how easy he makes it for the opposition to cut off the attack from the midfield in that pathetically outdated 4231?!
