Is Ole a good appointment?

All the knives are out for Ole it seems from the match thread. The attitude of the fans are as lousy as the players on the pitch today.

Of course Mutd are going to loose matches, Pool and City also does! And City should have lost to feckin Swansea! Wolves are no walkover and they played to their strengths today whereas united players clearly had a really bad day. No manager can make tactics for players perfrming to such low personal levels.

I'll take a pause from this place, getting kind of annoyed with people changing views of the players and manager as often as they change socks.

I've said so for a long time. Our football from them games compared to the others since are night and day. We've got great results but I think our general play has been pretty rubbish.
I don't agree at all. We played some good stuff up until recently with few bad games in between.

Before the instant reactions of Ole isn't good enough, let's remember we have had plenty of injuries lately. The front 3 are not fully fit.

Hard to judge at the moment as we have also been playing lots of games lately. Yes it's a poor performance, but no need to worry yet.

Despite results going in our favour, I feel that the football is on a constant decline for a while now. Honeymoon is over, Ole needs to step up.
Player great vs Chelsea, Fulham and Arsenal. 2nd half vs Liverpool was impressive too. You can't play Cardiff every week and score 5. Pool and Spurs have both been struggling recently. We have an injury crisis over the past weeks so we have an excuse. What's theirs?

Ole too slow to react at times. Wolves first goal was coming for a long time. Front 3 and Pog created and done nothing on the ball all night. We needed a change and it didn’t come.

He doesn't have much choice does he. Supposed to bring on who exactly?

The issue is the same it's been for years, the squad is full of average players. The fact some fans are happy with Smalling because he's had some decent form again, shows that some of the fanbase are as well.

What I can't believe is how we've left ourselves open to counters from corners ALL game long. Against a team whose only tactic in big games is 7 men back, and hit teams on the counter. Amateur tactics.

Exactly.

Yeah you haven't explained what patterns you're talking about though.

It will be clearer as the season progresses. We are in the middle of a run of difficult games and we will do a lot worse than we have since Ole took over.

To some it is quite worrying that we have been outplayed in each of the last four games. Ole has set us up incorrectly in a fair few of them.

He has rushed a few players back from injury too soon - against PSG and again tonight.

He set up incorrectly against PSG and had to waste a sub to correct it.

He was out coached by Emery and again tonight by Nuno in the last two games.

Being outcoached in and of itself can happen to anyone but the failings in terms of basic (top) team management are entirely what you would expect from someone with his CV.

We are very negative and dull in the bigger games, everyone is buzzing because we got away with it v PSG but it's a bit of a concern how he sets up us v anyone remotely competent. Still, not his squad but it's ok to express concerns. Everything isn't perfect when we win and on the same token it's not all atrocious because we've lost tonight.

We'll learn from this and improve. Wolves played a blinder today and outplayed us without a doubt. Way too many players having off days at a very tough ground. Onward and upward. Hopefully we take revenge on them in the league now, can't be worse than this.

Not saying he shouldn't be the coach long term but there has to be a question mark against his capability to confront tactics like tonight

I agree. But I also think the psychological boost masked the faults in the team. Mourinho was pretty diabolical near the end, but the players got off scot free when Ole came in. In reality, the players were shite for a while before Ole came in and it wasn't just down to the manager. We're not good enough.

Another important summer coming up and I can't say I'm confident we'll address our faults significantly.

Where was the faith in the youth today then? No recognised striker on the bench, perfect opportunity for Greenwood and Chong to come in once again.

We are so poor with the ball. Counter attack is ace but when the opposing team lets us have the ball (latest two defeats against Arsenal and Wolves) we can’t break through defences and just pass it sideways till the opponent intercepts and hits us on a counter attack - surely OGS must be seeing how crap and uncreative we are with the ball. Concerned that our form from here on, will get Mourinho’ish. Time for the players to show some determination and brains.

I wouldn’t blame Solskjaer for the result or the performances. These performances are closer to the true level of our squad. Our best players are woefully inconsistent and those beyond it have never been good enough. Confidence and a lot of effort has been behind the improved results but you can’t polish a turd.

First time since Ole took over that I’m really worried. What a poor performance, toothless in attack, shaky in defence, really poor performance from the midfield. Poor overall.

We looked like a bunch of players put together that have never played together, not a single good chance created.

No manager can do anything when half you team perform like ours have tonight

Pogba, shaw, martial, rashford, lingard, lindelof and Herrera have been utterly shit

The rest have just been shit

I am still not sure he has got it tactically to win trophies with us. Smiles and right things to say is all well and nice but it's only a small part of what makes manager a good manager. I want him to succeed but honestly I am not sure he will.

It was absolutely clear that we were massively overperforming, the signs were there. Back to reality, I guess.

No one's asking for us putting five past every opponent, but we've been going though styles and tactics like crazy, but us being more and more counter attacking bring the only constant. Also I absolutely don't give a flying fuk how Spurs and Liverpool have been as of late, UTD is my concern.

There are issues with the team but also there is a need to see things clearly, the quality ofnour football has not changed that much to be frank

Honestly, I'm wrong to say it's all been bad as it hasn't. It's just, to me, we haven't played anywhere near as well in any game as his first 3 and it's a little worrying.

still love him, still would be fine with him getting the job, but I'm just calling it how I personally see it. Fair enough if you disagree.

He has rightfully gotten a lot of credit where it's been due and rightfully should be criticized after today. It literally feels like Mourinho is back again. This was his only shot at a trophy this season so to put up a gutless performace like today is incredibly surprising. I knew it was going to be a tough game but that he would have gotten outmanaged like this I never expected. Deeply looking forward to watching Messi and co against these clowns.

His biggest mistake is that the players coming back from injury have just strolled back into the starting 11.They look out of form because they haven't had a chance to work they way back to form.

If that were the true (which it surely isn't) then we'd need to buy 11 players for the first XI.

I love oli an absolute club legend he’s come and lifted the team but he’s out his depth the honey moon period is now over god knows where we go from here,I cannot see us finishing in the top 4 and definitely not progressing in the champions league.

Pathetic post.pure knee jerk

I thought after PSG, United would do enough to see Ole be confirmed in the permanent job headed into the international break, but I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see the club take a deep breath now. As the underlying metrics had been suggesting, results were flattering us and we’ve now only won four of the last eight.

I love Ole and have loved the run, but the honeymoon is over and there is no harm in waiting for a bigger sample size before making a hasty decision. Last thing I’d want is for us to commit and it continues to peter out or goes tits up, when there is no reason not to wait. It’s one thing to make the announcement when it is the worst kept secret in football and is becoming a distraction, but Solskjaer becoming our permanent manager sadly shouldn’t be an inevitability right now. Things need to pick up again. We can’t dine out on mugging PSG off. The standard at United is to challenge at the highest level. Ole now has until the end of the season to prove he can do that, not just over 15 games when the cloud was lifted and things are breaking our way, but over a longer period when the novelty has worn off.

Feel free to call me kneejerk or entitled, but we shouldn’t suddenly swing into allowing the club to be ruled by sentiment as a reaction to the prior management appointments.

Yeah, there are some burning issues in the team no matter who's the manager, ie RW position. What surprised me the most was absence of youth attackers in Chong, Greenwood and Gomez, we had no options on the bench really.

He's has a bit of a mare tonight to be honest.

This is exactly what my assessment was about. No doubt that Wolves is a tough team, but can we really say that Ole is as tactically competent as the other proven managerial candidate?

I want United to have a manager where we can go to a top team and take control of the game, rather than putting an emphasis on a tactical approach of letting our players enjoy our football. I still don’t understand what our philosophy is under Ole. It seems it changes with who our opponent is. Tuchel outplayed us, but we won, Pochettino outplayed us, but we won. What I am getting at is, our football needs to improve from a philosophical perspective where we are the team that dominate all aspect of the game. Although, we did this early against the weaker team, but it seems our football has been on a decline since then. This will be another test on Ole, towards how he will get us at the level where we were when we were at our honeymoon period.

Everything to do with tactics has looked utter dross tonight. Set plays are also utter dross. Over reliance on youngsters/homegrown below standard (lingard) players is costing him big time.

Subs, tactics and over playing players all very naive/poor.

Sorry but this is why we need to wait until the summer. There is a reason he’s been at molde for so long.

Disappointing today, looked devoid of ideas, wrong subs, wrong time, seemed resigned to loosing. This was his chance to show he can pick the team up after an unfortunate loss against Arsenal, unfortunately he stumbled. Hope he learns his lesson here.
