Eh? Greenwood looked much better than Chong has in any of his appearances.
This is just Amadaues doubling down. He does it all the time. Like when he claimed Molde was a top team before Solskjær, and thought his last Molde stint was his first and credited someone else with the consecutive title wins. When corrected, he continued acting like his point still stood and that they were a top team, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Disappointed with some of his decisions today,

1. Lighter and riskier midfield selection. Decided to go with 2 man midfield, Pogba is really just a supporter in the midfield physical battle as he's more attacking and defensively lacking which is fine. We could've used a diamond formation but nope, let's play with 4-3-3 with the front three not really helping the midfield.
Have 3 choices:

  • experienced but not totally match fit Matic,
  • risky unstable performances but pacy and energetic + good attacking talents Fred
  • usually stable performances and defensively reliable McTominay
Decided to gambled with Matic and Fred with Pogba. Fail. We lost the midfield battle, lack of steel, Fred losing too much possession as does Pogba today. Matic slowed down attack, while Fred messes it up more often than the success plays. Seriously Xhaka is free for that goal, positionally Matic is far away and idk why Fred is not getting near to the action positionally and actually Fred backed away when Xhaka shot. Damn bs. Dalot as the RM when defending is also poor today, doesn't help the midfield since he's too attacking.

2. Not using the #10 area i.e. the hole. Could've have breakdown Arsenal's defence a lot cleaner having that threat. Ole rely on Fred to move up for this.. which brings few more problems:

a. Fred loses the ball too cheaply... often.
b. more spaces for Arsenal to exploit in midfield and they sure fecking did.
3. Not using the final sub. Nope zero. Ole only made 2 subs.

+Could've use it to bring in Pereira and put him in the #10 since we're playing with 2 strikers and 2 forward-winger at the closing stage... but nope. This will also let Fred to focus on picking up passes from the back (which Lindelof, Smalling and Young is so bad at today) and connect it better to the front, and Pogba to focus doing the same, they're both so poor today in carrying the ball upfield.

+Pereira's crossing from the right is also alternative tactical decisions. This means we overload the box with 3 strikers: Lukaku, Greenwood and Rashford ready to pounce in.

+ Another alternative is to use McT in a Fellaini role and to stabilise our midfield, too much riskier passes by Pogba and Fred, pointless surrender of possession.

4. No moving up CB. We're fecking losing the fecking game by 2 nil!! Geez and our two CBs are still at the back. Could've push Smalling up for his goal threat, overfilled the box. Why do we need to stablise the back. Geez, Ferguson at his best would gamble on just one CB to defend while the rest attack. Disappointed Ole didn't maximise and plan to the final whistle with the United way in its max form.

We could've still won the game even with this BS. The rest of his decisions is fairly reasonable which I don't mind and some I agree. Bad day and let's just move on from this.

Thought that some of our one touch build up play was very promising today! Freak result really- can't remember Arsenal having any real chances yet they win 2-0! Meanwhile we hit the woodwork twice and missed some great opportunities! Just not our day

Shouldn't have dropped in form Mctomminay for injury returning Matic that for me was a poor decision also Pogba too far left I don't see the rationale behind that.

This was a poor Arsenal team the reason why is they would have had to play out of their skin to get at us, or we would have had to have a poor game and that's exactly what happened.

De gea, Pogba, Lindlelov and Lukaku were woeful, it was an important game, can't help but feel if this fixture was further along the PSG game we might have had a result. I still feel like this team needs to grow mentally, started completely switched off you need to grasp these opportunities not let them slip away.

These games happen. Happend too under Fergie. You cannot win every game you play in no matter how good of a team you are. A loss was due sooner or later. It's normal. This team needs tweaking in the summer and I am sure Ole has identified this.

Ole has really given confidence to these players and you could easily tell how they kept going despite being two down. He is the right man for us and I have seen enough to convince me.

What? You think this is some blog and no one challenges your post?

You just named some random young players who didn't even play many mins for first team, somehow they were better attackers. Pereira is laughable choice considering he is midfielder.

No, but to make incredible asinine accusation that has no bases in fact should be scoffed at. To say I only read post on Redcafe, as such that is how I know about our youth product is like me saying , “since you know little about football, you must be a fan of MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.” Next time, before you quote me at least have facts to back up your assertions. :)

Pereira is an attacking midfielder and he is capable of picking out passes and scoring from distance. Saying it is a laughable choice tells me, you have never seen Pereira play before.

Eh? Greenwood looked much better than Chong has in any of his appearances.

Chong has more first team experience. Who is more talented is not the point of my argument.

Based on what? I guess you watched the in action so you'd know.

I have watched them plenty of times. I have known about their development since last season.

Liked his post-match interviews, thought he gave a good account of the game and didn't seem too frustrated or flustered. Hope that diffuses to the players.

No one can keep winning,so it was always gonna happen ,what happened today, it's how we respond to today , that's what will be the real test for ole , how we get another run going .

One of them says today , Murphy's law today.

Obviously when you name Gomes, Chong who haven't done anything as better choice than Greenwood.

Greenwood is having superb season at youth level and he is pure attacker. It's each choice. And yeah, Pereira is laughable choice.

 I’m not sorry. That wasn’t the performance to bash the manager.
I didn't bash him, I just stated for me it created a few concerns. I haven't been entirely convinced how we play atm, one of our main attacking moves seems to be giving the ball to Young and lumping it into the channel. This is route one football, which is easily defended against, maybe I'm wrong blaming Ole but it can't continue being one of our go to pieces of play to unlock the opposition defence.

I was/am as happy as everyone else about our win midweek, however we didn't exactly tear them apart for our goals.

Gomes looked good in the cameo experience he has made for the first team, whereas Chong is at least a natural attacking midfielder. We already had two strikers on, we needed to balance that out with a creative midfield attacker. We may disagree on Andreas inclusion, but to say is laughable is a bit extreme and just shows you don’t rate him at all as an attacking midfielder.

Chong looked poor against Reading. Greenwood showed much more than what Chong did against piss poor opposition.

Also Gomes must have played game of his life to impress considering he played 13 mins for senior team spread over 3 games.

Like I said, you named them for the sake of it. Greenwood is having fantastic season and it was easy choice to bring him on. He is capable of playing in wide attacking position or any attacking position.

Someone doesn't share the same opinion as you is now a 'total clown' and you must try and offend them, proper keyboard warrior mentality, congratulations on that one.

You are a clown if you take anything away from today's game.

That is a woefully bad opinion...

I'm going to give you some advice: stop watching football -- you don't understand.

I genuinely don't understand your point here. We didn't 'lump it into the channel' for any of our many clear cut chances today. If we had, by your own admission, we wouldn't have had any clear cut chances, because they'd be so easy to defend against?

Gomes still looked better in those few minutes than Greenwood has in his. And once again, from a managerial perspective it is better to put in an attacking midfielder than another striker to balance out the side. Once Greenwood came on, we didn’t take control of the game and we were better of having a number 10 or an attacking midfielder that could provide for the two strikers already on the pitch. It is like putting in a fourth centerback after if you already have three on the pitch when defending the lead. It becomes to excessive and balance is what we needed in order to alter the game today not a striker converted to a wide attacker. Greenwood has been the better than those two this season, but from a tactical perspective, another striker was not what was needed at the moment.

Dont get all the quarreling about which youngster he should or should not have brought on. These are academy lads, not peak Messi. The only players we could have put on today who would have made a meaningful difference is Herrera and Lindgaard, and both are injured.

Greenwood in any attacking position > Chong in any attacking position.

Without context yes, with context no.

Context is "lets point out random things because I support Poch".

Greenwood is the better player in any attacking position, he is also better player in retaining possession, he is better goal threat. It was obvious who was the right choice to bring on.

I said one of our main attacking plays, not them all but we do rely on giving Young the ball and lumping it into the channel too much for my liking. I'm not saying all our attacking play is by doing this but I just don't like it.

I'm not by any means bashing Ole, I just don't agree with some or our play, whether this is due to limitations of the squad or just down to the players.

The amount of times poster bring up pochettino when arguing with me seems like they have a hidden love for him and wishes they can do what he is doing. I must be getting to you to bring that out randomly:lol:. I m not arguing that Greenwood isn’t the better player, but rather from a tactical point of view a natural attacking midfielder with more experience would have been a better choice. In particular Pereira who you laughed at.
It's the first time I've ever found time to quote your inane rubbish, mainly because I've had you on ignore for the entire length of time that your posts have bubbled to the surface.
Ok, you can put me back on ignore because I don’t find any of your post insightful. It gives me another poster that I don’t have to waste time responding to.

It's not the thread for it, but Greenwood looked more composed and did more in his short cameo today than Chong has in any of his first team appearances so far.

Still early early days for both of them.

Well I like Poch and wanted him to be ManUtd manager. No you post so much nonsense like those Messi, Ronaldo fan boys.

No Pereira isn't a good choice. We have Pogba already in the team and just took off Matic, why bring Pereira when Ole could have just played Pogba as #10 with Matic, Fred holding the midfield?

You just looked at result and making random points, not even random just poor points naming Gomes, Chong, Pereira.

The problem with you suggestions was that Unai deliberately left 3 up top even when you expected Arsenal to drop deeper.

Yes, and Pogba has not played alongside Pereira before. We can have two or more creators in the team. We needed a goal and Fred was not helping with that. Fred as the destroyer was more beneficial than him as a creator. Without that tackle at the end, we would have been down 3-0, so he has the capacity. You believe it is a poor points, but if everyone taught the same way, every fan on here would become top managers.

You regularly watch our youth games?

Not regularly but I managed to catch some few games on my spare time and if I missed a game I wanted to watched, their are always recording that I can catch later on.

Yeah bad day in the office from us, can't blame Ole too much on some poor finishing and a penalty that could easily have been prevented from the ref

It's how we respond against Wolves which will be telling

I don’t think this is a criticism of him, but my thoughts:
- It is tough to know how much of this run to attribute to him versus the weight of Mourinho just being lifted off the shoulders of these players. It’s probably fair to say that quite a few interim managers would’ve seen a similar bounce, and also probably fair to say they wouldn’t have been as likely to sustain it like he has.
- He does seem to be playing the hits, the Fergie hits, even to the point he tried bringing back the 4-4-2 already. I get why he would, but it’s not making it easier to determine if he’s got any real philosophy of his own, and the confidence to execute it, or if he’s just doing what he thinks Fergie might do.
- It is the right decision to announce a permanent manager in the summer, be it Ole or someone else. I don’t trust the board to make the right decision.

You think he just throws formations based on what Fergie would do? That's sounds a bit harsh and way too simplistic.

No, Ban, I don’t think that’s all there is to it. I do however think that a 4-4-2 has been forced the last 2 times out.
