I agreed with a lot of what Mourinho thought, I just don't necessarily agree with how he reacted to it. He never injected any positivity and energy into any of it, everything became negative. Being right about some of the players doesn't excuse a failure to improve them.

The squad lacks character in attack and ability in defence, there's no getting around that.

How much can these players really improve though? Jose was visibly pissed even during pre season because he was not being backed by that clown Woodward. Even when Pogba came back he handed him the captaincy yet all people wanted to see was the negative stuff.

Apparently he tore into Pogba, Martial Lingard and De Gea after the match on Wednesday...

Accused them of letting the club down and questioned their commitment and said, to everyone, if they want to stay at this club, they need to cop on...

So he's pretty much where Mourinho was with them already...

Mourinho's fault though...

That's the difference though, if true.

That's the right way to go about it, behind closed doors.

I don't disagree about Woodward, how the feckwit is still in charge of transfers I really don't know. But I also think it's important to recognise that it's a manager's job to have the charisma to convey knowledge and belief to his players. Mourinho used to have that in spades but he lost it somewhere along the way in my view.

If he gets rid of a lot of deadwood I'll fully support him, even though I'm a bit sceptical now. Young, Jones, Mata, Darmian, Valencia and Sanchez should not be here next season. Lingard should not play as much as he is. I agree with the people saying he will only get rid of 2-3 players which would be a huge mistake. For me, it also goes against what a lot of people are praising him for, that he knows what type of players United need. We have some complete dross in the squad and I hope he notices that.

Don't even care which players we sign, I just don't want to see certain players playing for United ever again.

This nicknames business never works out for a manager. Rashy, Ash, Rom, Poggy, etc. I have never heard of SAF saying Wazza or Gazza or Parky, Ash or things like that.
Ole is not their friend. He is now the manager of Manchester United.
It is past tense mate. Jose is sacked because of that. Player power is huge these days. Manager must be friend to players or he is history.

Yep huge contrast with the Sevilla press conference. This is as far from where Jose was as possibly can be

Few journos on Twitter.

Take it with a pinch of salt. I posted it in the hope it is true.

You hope there is already some tension between Ole and DDG, Pogba...? It won't end well if true. Both are not easy to replace.

Why are you twisting my words?

I never said I hope there is tension between Ole and anyone, so why would you say that?

I clearly meant I hoped it was true so Ole got the message across as to how they've been phoning it in and what's expected at this club and if they want to stay here, a lot better is expected...

Why would you twist it into saying I hope there is tension and failings out?

And so it begins...

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says some players need a reality check

Solskjaer has issued a strong message to his squad after the Barcelona loss.

I hope he gets backed to the hilt!

The little groups in the dressing room and the prima Donnas need to be cut out and like I said before, whatever about Ole as a coach, he will instill the mentality and culture of our Manchester United back into the club

If he's allowed!

You are just a hater! Ole is a virus and these players can challenge for the title!

"We should strive to become like City"

I was jealous as feck when they signed Sané, Jesús, Laporte, Stones, Mendy, KdB, Sterling etc. If only we went for similar quality of similar ages!

Wan-Bissaka, Rice, Sancho + De Ligt, Ndombele/Fernandes, Felix/Pepe would be a good start.

Next season get a LB and hopefully Tuanzebe and Greenwood will be close to regulars, and maybe one of Gomes/Chong/Garner.

Hopefully Laird and O'Connor could be involved in the first team squad at some point, with Henderson, Mitchell, TFM all coming back, Ole could have an interesting pre season. To me Dalot has performed better at LB than RB this season, and i believe Laird can also be an option in both positions, so to me a LB is not required. I'm still not convinced by Pepe, and Ndombele, but Fernandes and especially Felix look extremely talented, and could fit into our squad no problem. If I'm being honest, I can't see too many of this season's established squad still with us in August 2020, I think a complete overhaul is required, possibly De Gea, Dalot, Shaw, Lindelof, McTominay, Rashford, Lingard and Martial could still be there. Give Ole the chance to work with and coach some of these younger players, and I sincerely believe that four or five of them could have very good careers at United.

Preference for British? Which British are we talking about? More Jones more young more mctominay, more fletcher : resuming - burnley type of players. The only decent one available on the market is Rice and maybe Mcguire. Let's be hones the good English players are in the other top teams - Southgate haven't called any of our Englishman in the past internationals, with only Shaw being regular starter.

Ole is the man to take us back.

I hope you are right, there are some on here who have already given up on Ole, which obviously is ridiculous. I still think he needs 12 -18 months to get the players into the club that he wants, to work with and coach some of the younger players, and to get rid of the players that aren't prepared to put in a shift when things aren't going right on the pitch, so next season, I don't see us really competing for CL (if in it), the Prem, but could have a good go at Europa League (if in it), FA cup and League Cup. Would want us to be competitive in the Prem, and look for top three spot (would love to see us giving both City and Pool a good battle, but I feel their squads are a bit stronger, and been together longer). Season 20/21 is the one where I think we could actually compete for the big prizes.

I'd hope he tore into them, they're meant to be our game changers and all three let us down big time, even DDG who has been our undisputed best player over the last five years hasn't half been shaky lately. Lingard was genuinely hiding and it was very disappointing to see from someone who'd been with us since he was a kid, just look at McTominay's attitude in comparison, it was night and day.

I do hope he saved some words for the rest of the squad though, his hands were tied a bit because of Shaw's suspension but Solskjaer needs to put his money where his mouth is and drop certain players who've been well below par and continue to hurt the team.

Still speaks very well in his conferences - refreshing. I have faith in him but not the numpties above him unfortunately.

I just hope my lover Jose doesnt see this *

*Mourinho obviously... I don't have a bloke called Jose :D

Martial is a bigger talent than Mbappe!

I hope Ole gets backed, because he's shown a lot of good qualities (a few negative but no manager is perfect). Unfortunately I think that he'll improve next season and then a spanner will be thrown into his work the next season and he'll get sacked.

Any evidence?

The only thing I'm hoping for us that Ole gets to stay his contract and is given the proper backing (economy, power) to build his squad. If he wants some of our star players out then give him the authority to sell them. He really wants a player in, back him. He should be the main man, period.

He knows the club and knows what personalities and what talent we need in the dressing-room and if he's given proper backing in all aspects I'm confident he'll do well. That said I still have zero confidence in the people running the club. And at times I get the crazy feeling they will walk all over Ole and put the blame on him if things go wrong.

Had a cynical thought while out for a run today.

What if the Solskjær appointment is just us looking for a hatchet man to come in and clear out the shit for a season until Pochettino is available at a knock down price next summer?

Scenario: Solskjær doesn't win the league or finish second next season (expectation due to large amount of money spent) with a rebuilt squad and steps down leaving a young, promising team with a much better dressing room situation, all of which are in the mould of what we would call a 'United player'.

The only evidence needed is the performance those guys have been putting in recently. Anyone with eyes can see they’re not committed, only shock would be if Ole hasn’t seen it
How about other players? Are the 4 mentioned the main culprits?

There’s clearly other players who have also been awful, but as someone has said they’re just rubbish and should’ve been moved on long ago, so you can only blame the board/ past managers for them still being here.

The guys that have been mentioned are meant to be our ‘big’ players, but most of them look like they don’t even want to be here. Players like Pogba should be putting in at least 7/10 performances every game, instead he gets outshone by the likes of Fred and McTominay, who seem to at least play above their level. The others just seem to try when they feel like it, which shouldn’t be acceptable.

No doubt get heat for this but if folks are honest, Poch is still the right man for the job.

I'd not be surprised at all if Ole struggles next season in getting top 4 and the board may chop him again like others. Even if he stays after not getting top 4 I'd imagine his time is running out going into the following season and Poch would be the main target.

I really like Ole and I hope to god he can do a great job, but in the here and now we know Poch is a superb manager. He's done a fantastic job at Spurs. A Champions league SF place after spending...Nothing! Not a single cent on players!

Ole narrowly loses to Arsenal/Wolves in self inflicted manner creating enough chances to win at ease. With the mourinho players

Mourinho embrasses himself vs championship fodder at home and fails to get his team stringing 5 passes vs west Ham, southampton etc

But Mourinho was right

Speaking of players we missed we should have signed Lacazette. Excellent player who in some ways reminds me of Wiltord (a similarly underrated player).

Our performances in the Emirates and Wolves for a large period from a footballing perspective was better than anything mourinho served up in big away matches for 2 years.
The same defeat that made people say we shouldn't have appointed until the end of the season. Fans have just been alarmed by the scorelines but once looked at more deeply some performances didn't get the result it should have.

We didn't get punished as we deserved under Mourinho. young boys was extremely close to taking the win from us and I remember crystal palace wasting gilt edged chances to put us away at OT.

Starting to think you're only here for childish points scoring and not for the love of United. Best ignored...
I checked myself for any evidence on internet/social media and didn't find any. If you had a source why don't you show it?

Apparently Ole paid for Pogba's next haircut after Tuesday night's performance.

If Ole tore into our star players, they will proceed to sulk and downtool. I hope i’m wrong but these players we’ve got are weak mentally and are rich enough to not care. Some are already looking to leave. This project is probably too tough of a job for them.

As far as whether Ole can bring us back to glory, it will all depend on whether the people above Olé does the right footballing things. Ole just like any other managers can’t make perform miracles with a squad of players who are not good enough. What we saw happen with Ole from the start is a case of players playing above their usual levels. We’re back down to earth.

My expectations are well set below what most on here have for what we can achieve.
