Really can't do anything more. You watch Lingard play and think "wow, he's bad" and then on comes Mata...

The guy just doesn't have the players of the required quality.

Should lay down the law with the penalties though.

We were excellent the 1st half, but I still see issues in our team when we get pressed and we didn't look good in the 2nd half(though still had chances).

Wish he made subs earlier.

We were lucky against Chelsea early in the game, but were unlucky against the Wolves. 4 point from those 2 games is a fair result imo.

First half we where bloody brilliant and in total control, perfect almost. 2nd half I think he will be worried we crumbled once the crowd got rowdy. Should have won near post header for the free kick prior to goal. Should have had someone on edge of box defending corner. Need to sort our own corner taking out, needs to sort who’s on penalties out. Lots to improve upon
Don't think we were even brilliant at any point of the game. We dominated the ball in the first half, but it was just pointless possession. We barely created more than one chance.

How do you know he didn't decide? Rashford wanted to take and when Pogba asked he gave it to him, you want Rashford to make a scene like Balotelli? Silly things to complain about.

If Pogba scored, people would have complained about him taking penalty?

What are you on ?

Two conflicting posts..
Odd thing to blame Ole on when the players themselves discussed and made decision. But then again, it's not surprising.

So which is it?

I want to have a designated penalty taker, like any other team. When all of our first teamers are on the pitch and they have been instructed that Rashford will take the penalties it's not up for a discussion.

Do you really believe it was a good tactical performance today or 2 points lost?

You should really watch games, otherwise you wouldn't post that kind of generic posts.

We registered 2 shots on target in 90 minutes against Wolves. We still misplace passes, still prefer sideways passing. No link up play in the attacking third.

It's still early in the season, so I'm hoping it improves, but we look clueless in attack. There are mid table/relegation teams that play more cohesive football than us, which is worrying.

The only thing that the team has improved on since last season is the stamina. We are still clueless when trying to play out of defence, we are extremely easy to predict in our attacking play, and all teams with and an ounce of coaching will not give PP time on the ball. The opposition will continue to pressure us to play the ball to the fullbacks and they will be allowed to run with the ball up the pitch. The opposition will then close down on them and voila: either a throw-in, lost possession or a risky ball.

With PP and McT in the midfield, we are unable to retain possession. Not that this was not said before last season ended. Or that we should prioritise signing central midfielders... We are not going to get top 4 this season and OGS should not be our manager next season on the basis that he is not capable of coaching the 11 players on the pitch to operate as a cohesive unit.

Psst, Ole...

You have subs fam. You can use them before the 80th...

Peace.

He should take Pogba off of pens really. Rashford seems to be fantastic at them.
Martial is good at them too. Pogba has missed about 4 and scored about 6, not a good record. I think it's a case of us not having a designated taker. Knew Pogba was missing the second he stepped up.

I'm not going to explain again, read the post again if you want to.

What do people expect?

He needs two CMs and another attacker/RW to take the team up a level.

He has only been allowed 3 players ffs.
He does, but him opting for Mata as our first sub was disappointing.

Mata, imo, was our worst attacker in preseason, whereas Greenwood, Gomes and Chon g all impressed.

Now, I know it's only preseason, and I'm not saying he should start them, but I think it'd be preferable to have them on the bench instead of a player we know will do nothing.

Still, overall, I was encouraged by our performance. Especially the 1st half.

Don't think we were even brilliant at any point of the game. We dominated the ball in the first half, but it was just pointless possession. We barely created more than one chance.

But we where in total control, rock solid, not a sniff of them having a chance. I admit we didn’t make enough chances or really create enough but for a tough away fixture that first half was arguably as good as it could be

There are some valid criticisms imo

Very late subs and the penalty debacle. Both should have been executed better and with a lot firmer management.

So we should sack the manager for making late subs - and because Pogba decided to take the penalty away from Rashford ? There is a fairly big gap from saying he could have done better in a couple of situations to wanting him sacked ? When did we last dominate a team like Wolves so totally for 45 minutes ? We have a young side - we will have poor periods. But we got 4 points against Wolves away and Chelsea - it puzzles me that people talk about sacking the manager

A point against Wolves away isn't a bad result. They will get a couple of draws/wins against the top six this season, just like last.

I did. In the first one you said that the players decided then in the second that the manager might have decided. Absolutely no sense there..

It doesnt make sense as you can't read.

I asked you "how do you know he didn't decide" I then said "what can he do if the players decided themselves" He can't make the decisions on the pitch. Its up to players. What if Ole says rashford is the taker but players then go by their gut feeling and decide to take.

Anyways Ole confirmed both are designated penalty takers and they decide who will take it.

It's not even the first time, we had different penalty takers in the same game. Odd thing to complain. With so much to analyze, so many posts on fecking penalty taker

If you watch football by statistic then you're right. We had more than enough chances to win and clearly look better than before.

This.

We deserved to win on the balance of play and would have if we converted from the spot. First half was we absolutely dominated and controlled the game so beautifully.

I am really encouraged with the start, this team needs a number 10, a RW, a creative cm and we will be challenging for the top.

How did we deserve to win if we only played well in the first half? We shut them out for 45 minutes but from the moment the 2nd half started, they were all guns blazing and we panicked so much that we forgot how to play in the final third. Sure, we missed a pen, but we had a massive drop in our collective performance in the 2nd half. You can't expect to win away games in that manner.

Did Wolves had any chances before or after the goal?

xG says that one too. We created more chances and had 0.3 vs 1.15 in our favor.

My Only issue is with the late substitution he generally makes when things need to be altered a bit earlier. Some players were clearly Knackered and needed to be off earlier. Other than that if we look on larger picture 4 points after Chelsea home and Wolves Away is a decent start and we need to build upon it. Midfield is clearly a problem both personal wise as well the way we generally seem incapable to bring that calmness in possession and move it forward without making mistake. We have clearly under strengthened that area, Gomes and Garner are the immediate hope until we can bring in someone there be it in January or summer.

Oh is that all? just around 280m. Ed will sort that out this January.

Dude... I say there are some valid criticisms to be made.

The gameplay, the attitude, the confidence and desire looks much better than last year. This was a very decent performance. 4 points from Chelsea and Wolves is a good start. It’s progress from last year and definitely something to build further on. Overall I am positive about our future.

That being said it’s not irrational giving him criticism for the penalty debacle and bad and late subs.

No idea what your on about with the “sack the manager” stuff.

Did Wolves had any chances before or after the goal?

I don't recall the entirety of the 2nd half, but they did have a clear cut chance before the goal that went off the post and frozen Dave almost bounced into goal.

It doesnt make sense as you can't read.

I asked you "how do you know he didn't decide" I then said "what can he do if the players decided themselves" He can't make the decisions on the pitch. Its up to players.

That's bullshit. It's very rare to have 2 "designated" penalty takers on the pitch in the same time to decide who takes it. Have you played football? The manager more often than not always has a first choice as a penalty taker and everybody knows it.

The effort to defend every criticism Ole gets is really mindblowing.

Not impressed.

Lingard as a starter is bad but he doesnt have many better options since Mata also looks terrible these days. However would Gomes as a sub be any worse than Mata?

James started out of nowhere and was pretty bad. Was even at risk for a red. Why bring on Greenwood for 5 minutes at best?

Lingard was horrible so sub him earlier. Lingard isnt even the type of player who can have a genius moment when he has a bad match either. Same for James, he was bad so sub him earlier. Although James having a genius moment is more likely than Lingard having one.

Last part.. someone in the match thread said he lets players decide who take the penalty? That sounds a bit unprofessional?
They are not children. They can decide who takes the penalty among them without guidance from Ole.

If you watch football by statistic then you're right. We had more than enough chances to win and clearly look better than before.
Now you are overreacting. This reminds me on all those posts about Lingard's movement. "He doesn't score and creates but he open space"
We were better team today but in reality we scored one goal and missed 2 chances( penalty and Lingard). And that is it. Plenty of chances? I don't think so.

To all the deluded emotional fans here, please explain Ole's tactics, if there is one except for counter attacking. United "bossed" in the first half, got a goal. Besides that goal how threatening were United? Never felt any danger for Wolves barring that goal, which was a piece of individual brilliance by Martial. So please someone explain Ole's tactics, and how is it so different from Jose, who practically did the same.

The overreaction by some is embarrassing, like seriously, get a fecking life, will you.

Valid mild criticism: Subs earlier and choose a designated PK taker. Hardly enough to bash Ole, very minor issues. I watched the whole game and feel very positive, id have absolutely taken 4 points from Chealsea and Wolves. Remember, we are top 4 challengers, not title contenders.

The signs look good. Like Ole said in his presser, its still pre-season until after the international break, lots of hard work to be done until the schedule gets too hectic.

 Ole himself said both are designated penalty takers but caf expert knows who was the designated penalty taker.

Also it's amazing how you were in cave when we won 4-0 against chelsea and now came out all guns blazing when he drew against Wolves. Jose fan boys are something else

It was his decision to go for players who really really really want to be here. It was also his decision to give youth a try while not actually trying them.
