It just feels right.

PS: that's what I felt when Mou signed too.

My non United mates have been saying for a few weeks how Ole is the best appointment.

Not because he has the best CV, not because he is the best manager in the world, but becauae he gets the club.

Its not the same as another club. Its not a 'success at all costs' thing like a Madrid or Bayern, or even the likes of City now. Its about having integrity and pride knowing you are part of the biggest football club in England. Knowing no matter how much we struggle we are still the biggest club in the country and we are everyone's biggest game.

We have a culture, nothing to do with playstyle or whatever else. Its a belief and mentality that Manchester United, no matter what, is better than you

Happy days. Good timing, too, considering we’ve had a couple of disappointing results.

I still think Paul Ince would have been worth the risk, mind.

That's what makes the timing wrong for me. If we play this weekend like we did at Wolves, he'll be under the spotlight after only one full game as confirmed manager.

It's actually added more pressure.

I think it’s the complete opposite. We’ve signed him on for three seasons; no performance this weekend is going to cause any issues outside of the village idiots that overreact to everything.

We lost a match poorly and told the world that this is our man. It’s absolutely the right thing to do.

Poor performances until the end of the season, without a permanent manager in place, would open up a real can of worms. We’ve avoided this doubt and inevitable chaos.

First step he should make is making Ed back him and renew some very important contracts as well. We need huge summer.

Negatives
- Distraction during a crucial top four race
- Too early to know if OGS will cut it at the top level. Could've waited until after the Barca games.
- Weird that he gets the position after two losses in a row. If they had already decided to appoint him, why didn't they announce before? Was there something good in our two losses that they hadn't seen before that tipped the decision? This just further sends out a message that the club rewards failure/mediocrity which is what has been happening with player contracts the last few years.
- If he fails between now and the end of the season, it will cost us more money to sack him. Was there a negative in waiting? It's not like signing him up early saves us any money?

Positives
- No Poch

After Barca games? What ludicrous barometer is that? They are the best team in la liga and have been one of the best in Europe for eons. Us on the other hand were having one of the worst seasons in club history till Ole brought respectability to our season. The Barca tie is just there to show us just how far we are from the top.

My only reservation with this appointment is him not being ruthless enough because of sentimentality.

Sentimentality to who ? There's no former team mates in the squad. He gives me the impression of being very ruthless and single minded. Surely having played under SAF one thing he will have learnt is that sentimentality does not enter the thinking and upsetting individuals from time to time is all part of making Manchester United great.

I've never got my head around people thinking he can't be ruthless. He wants this job way beyond the initial three years - lets face it where's he ever going to go from here other than backwards ? - and I guess he will do everything to protect that chance and if that means p*ssing off someone he's signed for a shed load of money then he will do what's required to safeguard his position.

What is the matter with you? Rewarding mediocrity. Winning so many games and trying to play positive football is not mediocrity. Also in the last 2 games, the game against Arsenal was not our fault. We had many chances but it didn't go our way. Wolves however, i agree. It could've been better. This is a reward for the transformation he has bought in our lives since his appointment.

Even if he fails miserably from here to the end of the season, i'd think it would be better than any manager that can handle this team and this club at the moment. Have some mercy for the greatest manager since SAF. He's going to resurrect the great club that we are. You'll be sorry that you said we rewarded failure/mediocrity when we win titles very soon.

I don’t have a problem with the appointment. I have a problem with the timing of the appointment. None of what you said changes if we waited. We might face competition for other managers but Ole won’t be going anywhere. There was nothing to lose from waiting.

Exactly, and we can also see how far Ole is from the top too. Does he need to win to get the job? No. He just needs to show he can be competitive. Was there anything we would lose by waiting?

As Ole said, we need to get the business done early.
Players want to know where they are headed soonest.
they wont come to a club where they don't know who the manger is.
And also other clubs will not be waiting. They are talking now.
We need to be ahead of the game.

Ole earned his appointment. He made it pointless to appoint another manager like Poch. As soon as that other manager would lose a game, the fans would wonder why the club didn't keep Ole. It's just Ole's turn and chance now, just like Moyes, LVG and Mourinho got theirs. He earned that all by himself. If he succeeds long term, I don't know, I hope so, but he has already generated more positivity and promising, resultful game play than these others, and the type of ride where the fans are behind the unproven manager. At the least it will be fun.

Unfortunately the village idiots (and press) will be the loudest voices should the current run continue. Most of us moderates would happily stay calm but they'll be whipped into a negative, end of days spiral in no time.

If he'd struggled as interim boss at least we'd have an easy opt out.

Hopefully this is all just pointless conjecture before we get swiftly back into form by tonking Watford though.

What pleases me the most with this is the fact that we could be on the cusp of bringing through our best set of youth players in years over the next few seasons. I'd never have trusted Jose for this but I trust Ole over any other coach in this regard. The guy will give them chances if they warrant it.

This only got done now because we can't just wait until the transfer window opens up to go for our targets.

There is no way players would join us without knowing who is in charge, there is no way we can find out which players we need to target early without knowing who exactly the manager wants. We don't know who us replaceable to him.

If a contract was not given & things were just left to word by mouth to ole then there is every possibility it could be taken away from him. At that point all the initial transfer targets would also be just that - led by a word of mouth.

Got to give him credit, he took the caretaker position and performed so well that they were all but forced to hand him the job full time.

At least with the manager side sorted, we can now start to confirm transfer targets and prepare for the future

Congrats to Ole. Hope he builds a team that plays attacking football even against the bigger teams and goes for their throats. Sick and tired of watching counter attacking shite.

I will ask you the same question I asked the moron on Twitter, who is available at the end of the season that will bring the same smile to the faces of fans, players and ex players?

If we crash out to Barca and fail to make champions league next season, it’s still the right decision. He will continue to learn at the job with every game. Ole is the right man because of the way he thinks and his ideas. Ole is like having a fan become the manager of Manchester United. His actions will favor the club and not personal glory like someone.

To answer your question: Ole is. He’s not going anywhere. Even if there was competition for him, he would still choose us every time. The argument isn’t whether Ole is the right man or not which is what your reply was about. It’s about the timing of the decision.

Ole has been a fantastic player and once he was appointed as a caretaker here, I realized that he is also a very positive person too. He likes being a part of a team, he likes being a part of a big Manchester United family, he is not an egomaniac and he is so positive. Oozes confidence without arrogance, class without hypocrisy. May it long continue with a few more big trophies in our cabinet.

Hear, hear. If he can show ruthlessness with players and Woodward this summer, he's passed the big test for me.

Read your post again. You questioned him as a manager, you stated that giving him a contract now is rewarding mediocrity which means equate him as mediocre.

My only reservation with this appointment is him not being ruthless enough because of sentimentality.
Benched 75M striker for Rashford, sold Fellaini in a heart beat, benched 400k p/w Sanchez several times, taught Fred a lesson after his shocking display against reading. He can be ruthless and I don't think he'll be just a yes man for Woody. Apart from dithering Dave, Ed actually gave LVG and Mourinho good windows in their first seasons at United. So I'm very confident that Ole is going to get a big window this summer. I'm optimistic to say the least, Ole can be our Zidane/Pep..

What have we lost by announcing it now? I'd love to know.
