I think his point was more that those clubs owners are at least willing to give their manager the funds to sign the best players whereas ours are just happy to accept top 4 every season and nothing more, in regards to Maguire I think the jury is still out on him being on the same level as those others you mentioned.

But we spend a bloody fortune ourselves. It rings really hollow if we try to plead poverty.

Oh yeah the pleading poverty line makes me feel sick when you think of how much money this club makes, the trouble is those yankee leeches take it to service their debt and we are forced to roll out excuses to defend low spending.

Better in the league. A good bit worse in cup competitions. Has to be reaching finals and winning them this season.

Progress is overstated as things stand. Let's see what happens.

I'm of this same belief. People are posting like Ole being here is a foregone conclusion, all it takes is barely 2 losses and if he misses the top four he's sacked. Solskjaer development thus far has been a line of narrow margins. He's not quite quantified enough in progress that he's nailed on to be the longer term manager.

The pressure however is certainly a positive the worst case scenario would have been giving him a contract with no real conclusion to the end of the season.

Exactly. They back their manager a lot more than we do. I also don't think Maguire is half worth what we paid for him.

We've spent £130m on defenders and £120m on attackers (not counting Diallo yet) and we've gone from 81 points (José's final season) to 66 points (José/Ole) to 66 points in the league (Ole), while doing worse in the cups. Is that really two steps forward and one step back?
Yeah sure, of course it is. We've got exactly the same squad as we had then also, all the variables are exactly the same. I mean, technically, we were last in this position back in 1982 so have we REALLY progressed? I for one prefer this kind of holistic thinking, that way we can completely disregard any of the false dawns we had in the 90's and 00's.

Ole’s got all my support and I’m happy with the progress we’ve made.m, but sometimes I feel he can go a thousand minutes without making a sub. Im sure those players on the bench know how to play football; they have to right? Marcus was clearly tired, why keep him for 90 mins?

Unusual? The best players were clearly on the pitch and they won the game without fuss. Our bench was incredibly weak, and throwing inexperienced/academy players on the pitch in a crucial 1-0 game with 20 mins to go is more of a risk than leaving our best players on the pitch.

If something hasn't happened in 9 years then the word unusual doesn't seem at all unusual.

Because the best & most trusted players were already on the pitch?

Throwing untested/academy players in a tense 1-0 game would have been naive.

Solid performance and we played well as a team. Think he should have rotated a bit more ahead of europe with his subs. Milan away going to be hard.

There is still the worry that with Ole we settle to be second best and getting the minimum for ok season.
I want us to attack the titles and play with agression.
To be fair we have showed that in some games so hopefully we will qualify for the next europa league round.

Actually thought that was one of our better performances over these past 2 months. Moved the ball much more quickly and played with purpose. Unlucky not to score more also. Please let it continue.

Fairly lucky with the nature of the goal, but the performance deserved the win. About as good as can be expected against a solid in-form team who turned up with no other intentions than to play 9 at the back and shithouse their way to a point.

Last season

Played 29 games, Points 45. And were 3 points off 4th.

This season

Played 29 games, points 57. And are 9 points ahead of 5th.

West Ham played utterly awful stuff. We got the 3 points and that's all that matters. Not a match that'll live long in the memory.

We obviously haven't mathematically locked down a champion's league spot, but this could plausibly happen a few weeks before the season is finished. One of the big advantages of an outcome like this is that it would allow us to speed up our summer recruitment, as the types of players we will plausibly be able to convince to join us will be different depending on whether we can offer champion's league football. Acting early in turn can give us a further advantage in the market.

Yes I have no problems with his team selection. We can't rotate today. We have to be in the CL spots.

My money is on Team Out. They got some absolute nutters in their ranks. They'll definitely bring knives.

Our only nutter is that sammsky dude, but he got banned

If this did happen I'd definitely record it. Could bring a bit of harmony to the whole site.

Great result this evening, well done, Ole! I get the frustration with no subs but that’s a big win and OGS knew it. It sounds like he knows some players may be back for the cup games so was willing to take some tired legs out there tonight.

Looking almost certain now we’ll make the CL places two years in a row for the first time, post SAF. That‘s good progress and hopefully we can push on again next year in the league and make it to the CL knock out stages etc.

Good result but we have been in CL two years in a row after SAF left.

Ole is actually working miracles at the moment. Of the XI that started tonight, a handful get into the Leicester or Chelsea sides. Lord knows Rogers wouldn't be binning Tielemans and Ndidi for McFred.

We are being carried by a few good men. The rest is either dross or injured. Yet somehow we are second in the table.

Some part of me is angry we didn't make a fist of it when we hit top. However, when you see how many of our players fail to make basic pssses it beggars belief we're well up there.

Ole got the result tonight. That's all that matters. If he can get us at least a score draw in Milan he should change his nickname to Gandalf, cos that'd be working serious magic.

Really? Genuinely intrigued what you thought we did well tonight. Personally I thought we were very poor and apart from a five min spell were incredibly slow and pedestrianised on the ball.

Going by the past two months performance wise I genuinely thought it was not too bad. We didn't play great but it was better and we deserved to win overall. Also had a couple of good performances in particular from Greenwood which is promising. Henderson wasn't troubled either which always helps. You thought we did nothing at all well?

2 losses in 25 games. Absolutely fantastic work ethic, system in place and determination instilled in the team. For the first time in 8 years we have a foundation to add brilliant players to.

I would say well done Ole, but it is so clear it’s a management job shared by 6 brilliant minds at United.

Back the Ole team
