Old Trafford extension

They've got two rows of exec boxes planned, Aidan. One that carries on from the other ones, and an extra one that splits the extension a third of the way up.

The Stretford and K second tiers are slightly taller than the second tier of the North Stand, the corners I think will be as high. It really is a strange design. Surely looks are important?

Never noticed about the height difference, but then I've never been in the North tiers 1 or 2. I agree it matters how it looks, but I'm still not at all sure how that is. I'll judge it when I see it, not like there's much anyone can do to change it now!

Bastards didn't show that on the original plan (on the previous page).

Mate, it's full of exec facilities. It's too much a fecking business these days.

from the artists renders and the wireframe image it doesn't look like a second row of executive boxes at all. Just looks like some kind of wall that separates the lower tier of the extension from an upper tier. There's a picture in the latest edition of the official mag too. The wall looks much the same as the North Stand had before redevlopment, with the same sort of openings (where you walk into the ground, not sure what they're called)

The artist renders are shit. And from the wireframe render it does look like a another row of boxes. Plus if you've seen the development, you'll have noticed that a concourse is being built, where the second row of exec boses will be. There's no other reason to split up a stand other than for exec boxes. As for the openings, on the wireframe, they are the exits below the exec boxes on the extension. But it will also have a few exits on the upper part aswell.

then i stand corrected!!!!

i presumed splitting the quadrant into an upper / lower tier would enable them to blend it in from 1 tier of Stretty to 2 tiers of North Stand and then back to 1 of scoreboard end.

i'm gonna have to pop down there for a look!

Sadly they've not really blended it in. Instead it'll stand at like a sore thumb. The only part of the new extension that will blend in, is the bottom third of the corner extension - the part below the exec boxes.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

just seen pics from inside the ground on Granada news and they've re-roofed the quadrants with a temporary roof so it looks exactly as it id last season. I guess the temporary roofs are a safety measure to stop anything dropping on the seats / crowd below?

They're just plastic sheets. No idea of it a safety measure.

and A1Dan, I wonder if they changed the plans after consulting Glazer. Would explain the difference between the plan you posted and the latest renders. Wouldn't surprise me one bit, if Glazer wanted more exec boxes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the South Stand redeveloped in the next couple of seasons. Not with extra seast but with about 5 stories of executive boxes like they have in some of the new American stadiums

None of the American stadiums have that. Some of the hockey/basketball arenas do tohugh. The only outdoor stadium that comes close is Lambeau Field in Green Bay and those seats are all along the top.

They have more exec seating than British football stadia. He's got a point there.

Forgot about the new Chicago Bears stadium. It's a sad trend in American sports. My thought was that if you take away the ability to write this stuff off on corporate taxes then this stuff would go away. Corporations buy these luxury suites and wine and dine clients then write it off on their taxes. It's complete crap.

What's the stadium pictured on page 3 of this thread? Has about 10 rows of boxes on top of the stands on both sides...

a number of the newer stadiums are being designed with quite a few rows of exec seating. As the south stand can't really expand backwards, then perhaps it'll expand upwards? A fair bit to be made from corporate suits.

a few pics (not best quality) of propsed stadiums with such a design.....

just visible under the last two stadiums roofs are about 5 rows of exec boxes. They'd fit above the south stand which would then have its roof raised to the same level as the other 3 stands.

i hope i'm guessing wrong :nervous:

if they stick em up in the sky and it helps keep ticket prices down for ordinary fan i am all for it

Cheers mate.

Appreciate you taking the time to go down and take those pictures.

Looking forward to the new developments to the stadium.

I did take a few more, but they're all pretty much the same! As you can see, the Stretford End / North Stand quadrant is progressing quicker than the East Stand / North Stand one. The wireframe is already going up showing where the seating deck is. Exciting times.

There's a MPEG movie on www.manutd.com that shows the stadium development. From that you can kinda make out what it's going to look like inside. Unfortunatley it confirms that the extension sits awkwardly between the North Stand and the two ends. After the architects in the 60's made sure that following development of the stadium would be easy, it makes me wonder why they didn't plan ahead when the built either the North stand in 1995 or the two new ends. Surley they should have made it easier to build these quadrants?

I haven't seen any construction or something today. So what's up with the extension?

They arnt working on it during the season, they did the initial part of the construction last summer and it will be completed next summer.

They're still working on it.

I thought they said that no work would be done during the footy season?

Nah. That was last season. They did the ground work. This season they've been hard at it. And as far as I'm aware they're well on course, if anything I think the basic frame has gone up quicker than most imagined. At this rate it'll be completed well before next season.

Perhaps someone could cut and paste the pic. I can't.

If that happens then it will be the last straw for me :(

Right, for those of you not able to go to OT ever or often, here are a few recent pics without all the Glazer Ltd crap stamped all over it.

I don't like it until it gets all the shiney red outer coating on it, then it will look fecking great, I reckon a couple of stripes down the side would finish it off a treat.

It should look very good when it's finished-can't wait to see what it will look like from the inside.
