Really lovely pics. What a way to spend an afternoon. Wish it was me.

Was a gorgeous day JSV, great little walk about.

Don't envy all those Chinese going inside taking pics though, probably not much to see except for the normal yet empty with two cranes sticking out over the roof.

Laing O'Rourkes?

fecking hell, it'll never get finished...

I've got a contact or two at Laings, so I'll see if I can't wangle a site visit, and take some pictures from the inside and from the roof...

The steelwork will be up in no time at all, and the concrete decking won't be long thereafter...the main part will be the cladding and the fit out phase...

Its originally down for a 40 week project, but thats a pipe dream if truth be told...there's ALWAYS contract variations to consider...unforseen circumastances, etc...

£40m is a lot in 40 weeks...roughly spending £1m a week isn't easy...thats a lot of work in a week...

What about the two cores that will hold the stairs and the cantilever strusses?

Clearly seen in these two. Surely they will take the most time?

Oh, and just to jog your memories, this is what we are getting:

What will the inside look like?

Nobody knows!

The end seats will have to join the North somehow, but whether they will swoop up, or just go round at two tiers with the third tier North just coming to a rather abrupt stop nobody knows except the architects.

Just having the tow tiers will look daft don't you think? The North Stand third tier will look weird without a swoop down.

Do you think the workers on site will know?

Main Stand needs some work though, last I heard was that the club owns all the houses at the back of the railway line, and they want to build right over the line to have a station coming into OT.

Problem was they couldn't get permission from Railtrack to build over the line. That was a few years back, so things may have changed a wee bit since then with improved construction methods. Can't believe that in this day and age it can't be done safely, they span railways and roads in operation all the time with pre-fabricated and pre-cast bridges.

Still, with the gimp in charge now, no-one knows what will happen.

The senior ones should, as they should have copies of the detailed architectural and structural drawings.

Stick ten floors of corporate boxes on top of the stand?

Go on. It's a brilliant day.

Have I mentioned that I think you're the best poster on the Caf?

My feet are sore, there must be another local.

How about 26? He's got a car.

Was messing. I'll go tommorrow.

Whom should I ask though?

I dunno. As far as I could tell, the foremen were wearing red tops.

Scary thing is, doing this only really involves expanding upwards, not any further back... thus negating the railway/houses issue. :nervous:

While I'm on the South Stand topic, here's something I thought the other day:
I've always previously thought that a near-enough identical replica of the North stand would suit best - nice "complete" symetrical stadium.
But then the moving roof on the South of the new Wembley got me thinking... maybe something similar could be done.
Dont' get me wrong, I'm not suggesting a closing roof, a la Millenium Stadium -they're shit, footy should be played in whatever weather comes along on the day of the match. But rather a roof that either covers the stand, or retracts further to allow sunlight onto the pitch (I believe this is the way Wembley will work). This could help immensly with our pitch problems - which would otherwise only get worse with a bigger South Stand (probably prompting the Gimp to install a plastic pitch :nervous:).
The re-devlopment of the Stand clearly needs some pretty radical thinking to overcome the railway issue, and presuming the houses have to go anyway, there's actually quite a lot of space to play with back there.
And the chance to watch the match from an uncovered stand on the half a dozen matches a season when it's warm enough would even give you a reason to actually WANT to be in the South Stand...
What does anybody reckon to that, eh?

I might go down tonight and have a shufty...

I'm trying to get a copy of the Architects drawings for the extension, so watch this space...

If I can get me hands on them, I'll post extracts on here...

BA, ask them them what Weaste said. Will the North third tier swoop down?

I reckon the trouble with a retracting roof is the cost.

depends if they cast them in-situ or bring in precast units...

I'd suggest that they'll have them precast...

do you think if I wear my rigger boots, high vis vest and hard hat that I'd be able to get on site and have a shufty around a bit more?

hmmm...

Look at picture 4 Andy, on the right, surely that is one going up there?

As for your deception, you could try, but surely you would need a pass? And you might get arrested for trespass. :)

And picture six, the same type of thing going on at the stretty end.
