Old Trafford extension

They seem do have done what they said they were going to do BTW. The roof on both corners has been removed, and they are starting to build the curved outer shells. Thus not removing the existing seating, but rather ploping an extra seating deck on top of it.
Good. More money = better players.

What did you expect? that's how they did the other extensions bar North Stand (because the foundations weren't strong enough).

Ok, just uploading them to the FTP site. I'm at my dad's house. Although he has a 2mbs connection, the upload is probably only 128k!

Will there be room for additional expansion after the current phase is finished?

Perhaps upwards of 85-100k seats someday?

Depends how they deal with the railway line and the houses the other side.

I'm sure the club could make a substantial offer to buy the houses/real estate but the railway could be tricky. The Dallas Cowboys have made a fair market approach to the home owners in the Arlington, Texas, subdivision where they have decided to build a new stadium. They are paying 20% above market appraisal as well as moving expenses (there is a cap on individial relocation expense/max distance). This has been approved by the city and by the majority of the home/land owners in the area. There is still a small group opposed to this complex, but they cannot win out since they are in a minority. Most of the land is old buildings and run down area anyway. It's only affecting a small amount of home owners, something like 500-1000, I think.

My brit friend (since returned to England in February) said to do such with the railway, the railway would have to close off about 2-3 miles worth of rail, and somehow change the route to go around the stadium area. He said it would cost millions.

How often is that railway used? Is it used for passenger or shipping or both?

Right here goes. The photos are in the order that I took them, so it includes my approach to the stadium from quite far away to get the whole stadium in.

I don't know what this server's banwidth restriction is, so if in the future these turn to little red Xs it could be that. If they appear like that right now, then obviously the server doesn't allow external linking.

Right, bandwidth has been busted so these big ones are getting removed. Smaller versions are on next page.

Cheers Weastey. They're excellent!

So I assume the cranes are there to lift the roof structures and then they'll just knock the rest down?

The crane at the Stetty end was lifting wierd yellow blocks up to the guys on the old roof?

For the South Stand, I heard that the plan was to build over the railway and onto the 56(I think) houses behind. It would take the capacity to 95000 and was to be started in 2010.

Cheers Weaste
I was always under the impression that they were going to finish one corner before they started on the other

Thats heaps Weate.

Appreciate it.

First time i have ever seen pictures like this of Old Trafford and around the stadium.

Considering their size, it is possible that the bandwidth limit has been breached!

Nice one Weastie. Good to see it underway, I just hope it opens up the other top tiers enough to improve the atmosphere all round.
I'll get in touch when I think of another photographic assignment for you...
