Obtainable Attackers

Game changers playing at already big clubs (financially and competitively) and wanted by these clubs are not obtainable not only for us but pretty much everyone else. Real Madrid are the most attractive club in the world and they've only managed to do once in about a decade with our Ronaldo. It is something that almost never happens unless one of the first three criteria changes. If we look at those game changers that we need at the moment, they were either bought full of potential or from a non-elite club like Agüero, Hazard, Bale, Neymar, Suarez or discarded by their original club like Sanchez. Our only hope therefore is to aim for Memphis or Martial to do what a Hazard or Agüero did or find someone who will. Unless of course Real decide they've had enough of Bale.

To add to this it's getting even harder to cherry pick the most promisng players off the second tier teams like Atleti, Dortmund, Spurs, Everton etc...They are all starting to hold on to players better than they were. Even so I think we need to do more than just hope Memphis and Martial blossom, they need help now and Rooney and Mata need replacing IMO.

Very true indeed. I agree that our youngsters need help, I just really do not see any realistic target of that pedigree. The players of that calibre we are talking about have already shown plenty before they made their big move like Agüero, Hazard or Bale. I honestly don't see who has that pedigree at the moment. We are talking about the most valuable thing in football here, players who can carry the ball and make something happen out of nothing. Obviously, Aubameyang and Giezmaan stand out at the moment but as you said, those clubs have become tougher to buy from. It is really the most difficult type of transfer you can make, on the flip side, I genuinely believe that with the control and utter dominance this team does in two thirds of the pitch, getting a player of that calibre will truly make it a top, top team so fingers crossed.

What do you guys think about Cavani? I've read he's been offered to us for 32m Euros...

I think we can approach this in two ways, we created 21 openings the other day, several of which were good chances, so adding someone that can finish like Griezmann via his buyout clause would be my first move. For the ball carrying creator I think we are going to have to take a chance on someone with less proven pedigree as the ones with pedigree are simply not available. Personally I am unconvinced with Mane or Mahrez but they are undoubted options, but as I mentioned in another thread, I'd be fine with us going the Martial route and buying Leroy Sane for the RWF role, as long as we got that proven goal scorer in to finish off chances.

How much would Lukaku cost? £25 million + they can have Rooney back on loan for a season, and we'll pay his wage?

This is Lucas Lima from santos in brazil. 25 years old, Will leave santos this season. Incredibly quick, two footed, can cross, pass and has a hammer of a left foot. He is the attacker we need. He will come cheaper and will not be cup tied. Real madrid and juve have been linked with him. He says he is ready to leave santos (has had offers but declined). I think he will be available for around 20 million euros. Club president has said they have an offer of 20 million euros on the table from europe for him. I suspect its from madrid as Perez has met his agent wagner(Same agent as gabigol) recently. He has also broen into brazil squad and scored against argentina.

Christ he is rapid quick. How often do these Brazilians actually make the step up though? They look great in Brazil but when moving to European teams go invisible, Neymar being the exception of course, he's a freak. Bernard was a player who seems to have a similar play style to this guy and was touted as being a decent player but to my knowledge nothing has really come of it.

I tell you now, ive been watching Lorenzo Insigne at Napoli since him and thiago stole the show at the u21 euro's. He's a top player, and ready for the step up i reckon. Exactly what we need on the left, and can play more central as well. No idea what he would cost, but he would arguably be one of the more attainable options listed in this thread. He would be what we expected mata to be in terms of creativeness. Our own little pacey David silva/isco.

He's got 8 goals 4 assists I believe in 14 league games as Napoli top Serie A.

Good shout, always been a fan. Top player. Would prefer Veratti who I rate a little higher, but as they say, beggars can't be choosers. :D

Agreed but Griezmann is far from being a killer. He's more a smart playmaker playing very often forward. Combinations with Martial and Memphis could be fantastic (and with Mata or Herrera as well maybe) but he's not a killer in front of the goals. Only, he's got that football brain so he does think before positioning himself and that can lead to more goals.

@Damien or any mods - can we get a poll going for possible strikers please?

We've had to links to Kane today and Lukaku ones will surely be coming shortly but it would be interesting to see where people think we should be looking at now the season is well underway and Rooney is looking increasingly unlikely to sustain his position.

Kane, Lukaku and (shudder) Vardy all on form domestically. Could add Griezmann and others if you wanted to go continental with it...

Kane and Lukaku are certainly showing that they are good enough for a top side and anyone of them would improve us a lot.

I was shocked lukaku was allowed to go to Everton by all the top clubs, we potentially could have even got him and cash for Rooney when moyes took over. I think he would be a great signing for us, as would kane but I don't think we could get either in the summer.

Lukaku is definitely obtainable in the summer for the right price, his agent Raiola will flaunt him to everyone.

We should go for Chicharito, Nani, Januzaj and Di Maria...oh wait.:nono:

Yeah, i think around about that is right, potentially even 40ish with add-ons. Something tells me that PSG will try and get him.

Add-ons or maybe £40M + a player if the buying club has one Martinez wants? I agree that PSG buying him as Zlatan's replacement seems plausible as they have the same agent, I guess it depends on how settled he is in England though.

Lukaku might be available but he won't be cheap, if I remember correctly they paid something like £25m for him and if he keeps this form up for the rest of the season they will look for a big premium on that price if they are to let go of him.

Lukuka was crap according to many last season and found his level. He's going to cost a bomb.

We need pace and energy upfront, I would seriously go for Vardy and Mahrez, I think we could get both for less than Lukaku. Though would feel sorry... for basically blowing any chance Leicester have of achieving top 4.

Given top 3 in PL is imperative, I'd go all out for Vardy.

He will do the job this season and then happily settle for a squad/sub role next year once Neymar arrived (:p)

This is probably the most important debate within the club for the next 6 weeks. We have to make a quality attacking incoming transfer in January or we face huge risks of not getting top 4 this season

Is that going to kick in this season?

If so we deserve it to be honest, might just give the English clubs the kick up the arse they need.

Like I said, an overhaul is required. But it can't be quick fixes. If we're spending big and bringing many names in, it has to set us up for the next 3-5 years.

Lukaku is a very good player, especially for his age who could probably do a very good job for us. I'm just not sure he'd ever be a nailed on starter here, and he doesn't seem like that sort of player who'd be OK with that. Which is completely fair enough.
