Nuri Sahin

Could have been an interesting player for Giggsy's current position

More defensive than Giggs though, imo. I think Sahin is rather like Carrick.

Personally, I reckon Sneijder would fit in quite well to that role - not as brilliant as Giggs at his best (may mature into it though) but I wouldn't be too worried if that is Fergies plan, and it does seem that we are interested.

I just don't see how he'd fit in at Madrid. It's a well known graveyard for the careers of a lot of the players they sign, and I can see this one going the same way. Alonso has the deep lying playmaker role sewn up, Kaka and Ozil are competing for the more attacking role, and I can't see Mourinho, or any other manager, sacrificing a defensive midfield player in a 3 man midfield. He'll most likely be warming the bench as cover for Alonso, which seems a bizarre decision from Sahin.

Real play 4-2-3-1

With Higuain/Benzema up front - they wont keep Adebayor.

An attacking three of Ronaldo Ozil Di Maria

With Sahin Alonso as the midfield 2.

honigstein raphael honigstein
true, he's more of an Alonso by nature. but don't see any problem to play him next to Alonso next season, RM don't need a "ball-winner" imo

lulz, so they're going to out-football and out-skill barca next year?

They play other teams than Barcelona.

And to be honest, with the right tactics and a lot of work on them then they have the players to be just as good.

10m euros about £8.8m - good price for what looks to be a very good young player. How is it Real get them cheap? ozil, Khedira, Sahin, Canales etc

They hear Madrid are interested and are convinced that if they dont take the chance to go there straight away, Madrid will lose interest and their chance will be gone. So they jump at it and have to believe that they'll be good enough to start

We will have to see how well Sahin fits into the Real side but even if he has a season half as good as Ozil he will have done well.

Also helped by the fact that the three of them(Khedira, Ozil and Sahin) had only one year left on their contract

Madrid are assembling a really fantastic young team. Pepe, Ramos, Khedira, Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria Ronaldo, Higuain, Marcelo and now Sahin are all pretty young and are all first team players. If they can keep the necleus of the squad the same over the next few years then they could actually start to blend as a cohesive unit. This is Madrid though so they'll probably sell them all of soon.

I'm aware Madrid play 4-2-3-1, but it only works when you have one ball winner and one ball player in that deep midfield two. The old Liverpool formation with Mascherano - Alonso was a good example of how it works. Sahin and Alonso are both ball players, neither is a tackler and thus it is unlikely to work.

I wouldnt call Busquest a ball winner in the mould of a Madcherano and they seem to do fine.

Both Alonso and Sahin are tacklers. They just have other qualities on top of it like Carrick - so sometimes people over look it.

You might need a ball winner against bigger sides, but you can get away without one in matches where you'll have most of the ball anyway, as long as the "2" are both positionally aware. People think of things far too often in terms of a first 11 - it's the squad that's key, and Real are going to have a very strong one with plenty of options.

Pepe is 28

But the rest you mentioned Ramos 25, Khedira 24, Ozil 22, Benzema 23, Di Maria 23, Ronaldo 26, Higauin 23, Marcelo 23, Sahin 22. That is the core of their team and it does look great, another galatico era? It is a possibility but i think they will shift Moureen and get another in the summer knowing Madrid.

Also, Alboil and Garay and only 25 and 24 respectively. As well as their fringe players with the likes of Pedro Leon, Granero, Canales are all very young too.

It's Real Madrid, in two years time, at least half of those players will be gone.

They'll struggle to overcome Barcelona's dominance for a number of years. By which time the composition of the team will have changed.

Sahin is more than a prodigy to be fair, he'd slot right in here. He's already brilliant. He'll slot right into Madrid's midfield too.

He will need at least a year or two to fit into the premiership & cement a place in our first team.

Well despite his passing abilities, I think he is a ball winner. Perhaps not in the same way as Mascherano, but he's a good tackler and a physical presence (despite his diving antics), attributes which I don't think either Alonso or Sahin have. We've seen it for Spain, Liverpool and Madrid - Alonso is at his creative best when he's complemented by a tackler - with partners like Mascherano, Diarra, Khedira and Busquets over the course of his career.
