To be honest the track record is is pretty good with this one.

:lol: there is absolutely nothing to say that he will come in and be a huge success. He's done well in the bundesliga but struggled with injury and barely played last season. To then just dive into the Premier League will be a massive test.

I am not saying it's a shit signing but it has all the elements of a Liverpool in big fail signing shocker right next to the fine line of it being a success. The ball could drop either side.

I too heard that we weren't prepared to fully pay his wages as he is on big bucks so that wouldn't surprise me

I think Mourinho wants him back and I think he knows he has a better chance of that at Liverpool than Arsenal.

uri Sahin's departure from Real Madrid is taking longer than planned. Although the player has made his mind up to leave due to the lack of playing time he would get this year if he stayed, an agreement for his transfer still needs to be reached before the young Turkish player can begin packing his bags.

Reza Fazeli, the player's representative, spent this Thursday in Real Madrid's offices to continue negotiating Sahin's move to the Premier League. Arsenal and Liverpool continue battling it out to secure the player's services on loan. Both Fazeli and the player know Madrid would prefer to accept Liverpool's offer, although the player keeps pushing for a move to Arsenal, with the London club not having thrown the towel in yet.

For the moment it looks like the negotiations have hit a snag and won't move forwards until next week, when the issue should be resolved.
 
Very good deal,i hope Arsenal make good signings hate to see when club loose their best players every season so they do deserve a break.
 
I'd rather he move to arsenal than Liverpool. A bit disappointed we've not been in for him.

One of the most reliable people on twitter so I'd be inclined to believe what he is saying. I've heard Arsene Wenger personally called Sahin to convince him to join us and I know Sahin is a big admirer of Wenger.

I also heard that Wenger told Sahin once he freed up a squad place by selling Song he'd bring him in.

Buy back clause? As far as I know only a loan which a view for a permanent transfer, if we take that option R.Madrid might have a buyback clause but I'm not aware of that. Wouldn't be very keen on that however a buyback clause would mean we have to accept an offer but he may not want to go back. I wouldn't be too happy with having any clause like that though.

Yeah I believe that is what happened, had to call as Liverpool were closing in and R.Madrid were pushing hard for him to join them. I believe for him Arsenal was always his first option and a personal call from Wenger swayed things in our favour. Lets hope we can close this deal quickly.

If the player has already been at R.Madrid he may not want to go back, also Cazorla famously rejected them a few years ago.
 
great player, and ofcourse he's a lot better than it was shown last season in Madrid, at the same time though I wonder if he'll be able to replicate his Dortmund form, or maybe his Dortmund form did flatter him a little, Gundogan came in right after he left and some fans say he's had a better season than Sahin did before he left.

Fair point, but Real can't exactly force the player back even if they have a buy-back clause, can they?

These 'fans' are talking nonsense because Sahin was one of the players of the season whereas Gundogan couldn't even break into the team ahead of Kehl/Bender for half the season.

I don't know exactly how they work but to my knowledge the two clubs agree a price, if the club is willing to put that money up then they have to accept but then it is up to the player to agree to join them. Kind of like the buy out clauses Spanish clubs have on their players.

Well, I'm not a Dortmund fan but Gotze and Kagawa were the main reasons I was watching some of their games, and I gotta say I was always impressed by Gundogan, however due to not watching nearly enough games to make a fair assumption I'll just go along with what you're saying.
I do remember him getting more and more praises as the season wore on, and a few people have more or less "forgotten" about Sahin due to him.

Not trying to take anything away from Sahin, I just that think that due to certain circumstances he benefited from playing there at that time.

Since we're on the subject, he'd be my first option to sign up seeing as Martinez and De Rossi aren't available, but neither is he so feck it.

Sorry - you cannot compare Sahin and Gündogan.

Sahin was playing for Dortmund again since 2008 - we talk about the season 2010/11. He - even if very earlier - is a professional since 2005.

Gündogan was somewhat a part time professional until he came to Dortmund last September as he went for his A-levels and did the normal school hours and connected it with professional Bundesliga at Nuremburg. He had his first season at the professionals - so he still went to school - in 2009/10. Last season was his first season with the team. He is 2 years younger - but we talk somehow about Sahin's season when he was 22 and Gündogan's when he was 21...

Just listening to the first Football Weekly of the season and Sid Lowe was suggesting that there may have been something gone on behind the scenes with Sahin and Mourinho. It was pure guess work but he couldn't understand why he didn't feature more for Madrid. I'd just assumed that he had been injured quite a lot.
 
He played like 130 minutes for Madrid last season, Sid Lowe is probably right.
 
Balague was on sky talking about it earlier saying he believes Mourinho thinks he doesnt show the hunger he likes in his players. Whether thats from an actual source or Ballague making shit up again is anyone's guess, but its as likely a reason as any.

Then again you have to remember that at Madrid its not Mourinho picking each player specifically to sign. So perhaps he was another player that Mourinho didnt request and never had plans for
 
If that £14M set price to buy him permanently next summer is true, we really should have been in for him.
