Nuno Espírito Santo: Nottingham Forest manager

He's a dead man walking from day One, but looking at the state of affairs at Spurs, not even Guardiola could pull them out.

Think the job is too big for him. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the first manager to go this season.

He's an honest man, but I don't think this is a good stick to beat Ole. Nuno sounds defeatist, and already lost to Spurs player power. Ole's man management is his (only) strong point.
What man management?

It's not defeatist to admit your mistakes. It's called taking responsibility and it's a requirement of good leadership.

He's a mid-table manager, but Spurs are a mid-table club so he's right at home. To think some people wanted him to replace Mourinho at United (although he couldn't have done much worse to be fair).

Still better than ole “we created big chances” solskjaer

This is really refreshing. I rather a manager come out and be honest and say they made mistakes rather than excuse after excuse, or just appearing blind to a poor performance and trying to make it seem better than it was.

Let’s be fair here. Going 3-0 down against your local rivals is nothing like our last game. Villa were lucky to have won it, not that it was undeserved but there were fine margins throughout the match. We lost one of our most effective wing backs and maguire is usually reliable in defending corners, and their goal shouldn’t have bern given. If Bruno had scored, it wouldn’t have looked this ugly. It is still a bad performance but it wasn’t as bad as that Spurs first half.

They’ve conceded 13 goals in the last 5 games. Scored 1 goal from open play in 6 games. What, in Gods name, can he say otherwise? It’s a broken man

You'd be surprised. Someone like Mourinho still wouldn't have admitted any fault.

Sometimes it’s so glaring that you just have to. Why play 3 DMs v Palace but play attacking midfielders, with no legs, v Chelsea and in a NLD? Kane on the left?
He will be gone by the next international break

Him and Lage were my choices as the first managers to be sacked. Nuno is a manager who gives preference to organized defenses, so it will be a mtter of time until spurs fans be all over him.
Lage on the other hand is a manager who prefers high press and attacking football, but looking at the quality of Wolves defenders things wont probably work.

They look terrible side, couple of set pieces goals got them few points but they are terrible team to watch. They don't create good chances and looked completely out of ideas. Its like every player they have is mentally exhausted.

That does sound like Spurs players.

The team is clearly burned out: Kane and Ndombele are not the only ones who wanted to leave, but were the only ones who publicly did it. At this moment Spurs needs more an expert in human resources management than a tactical and technical wise manager.

Levy's luck seems to have run out. If Conte was even considering taking over, he should've bent over backwards to give him whatever he was asking for. Levy's shrewd decision making got them to a certain point, its only fair that he's taking them back to their rightful place.

Don't think it is, saw his BBC quotes and it still sounds like he's indirectly blaming players, basically saying it was my mistake for picking Alli and/or Ndombrle

Are you talking to yourself?

I think it's harsh on Spurs, they have the players to be challenging for top 6.

Keep the lid on dressing room affair. Protect players from public attack. Don't publicly alienate players, and cause divisive dressing room. No fight, protest between players and coaching staffs. Diplomatic considering outgoing players

Nuno said he took responsibility for the wrong tactic, but it was rumored immediately the players didn't agree to the gameplan, and they just gave up on the pitch. Now we heard rumor about players refused to join the training to protest. Lucas publicly criticized the tactic...

Spurs won their first 3 matches without Kane. Once Kane joined the team, they've lost all 3 of their last league matches.

This isn't about Nuno. The toxic environment created by Levy not selling Kane has obviously killed the drive of their best goal scorer.
Personally, I like Nuno as a manager and he seems like a decent person. I hope Levy lets him go. Working for Spurs management must be an utter nightmare. He deserves better than what he's had to endure since taking the job from both Levy and the sports media.

Has Levy made any public statements about the current situation?

I love how the BBC has both these articles up at the moment, and both teams are on 9 points. Arteta has great PR I'll give him that.

Tottenham: Nuno Espirito Santo appointment 'turning into a nightmare'

'Arteta could be next Wenger' - Arsenal show class as they crush Spurs

I normally stand up for the BBC, but I noticed this as well and its ridiculous. Arsenal are still a fragile team, they won this becuase Spurs were appalling, but then I remember united looking appalling against Spurs last season and quickly bouncing back.

I would back Nuno to improve this team, he certainly has some good players. As for Arsenal they'll also improve but ehy're certainly not on the Wenger track yet in the same way Spurs are not completely finished!

I remember some fans wanted him here.

Thank god for that.

Conte is not an idiot, Spuds need a complete root and branch reboot and have a €1bn stadium debt around their neck as a millstone.

No way he goes there as once the next big club vacancy comes up him will have a very good chance of getting it.

It’s astonishing how quickly the media get carried away by the Arteta/Arsenal project. Literally takes one or two wins and they’re all gung ho. Even after he’s made them all look like mugs before.

Conte demanded £300 million to reboot the team and Levy refused - that is the talk anyway. At the rate we are going we will lose more than that by not getting into Europe and sliding back into mid-table mediocrity for the next 5 years.

It all looked like a set up to sell more tickets. As soon as the season ticket sale was over, Conte deal collapsed.

Read on the beeb that spurs are 20th for attempted shots and distance covered in the league. No new manager bounce for them then.

A month ago you’d have read the exact opposite.

He's not top club material, he proved it at Porto. Good manager for teams who's main goal is to achive a top 8 finish, though.
