Nuno Espírito Santo: Nottingham Forest manager

First we had Amadaeus with Pochettino, now we have you with Nuno. There seems to be something about this forum that encourages an inexplicable but niche cult following for consistently underwhelming managers.

Hey,

I'm with y'all Nuno haters.
All for the best if Nuno leaves

As I keep saying, Nuno deserves better than all this nonsense.

Still won't fix the fact that the Spurs chairman is a complete jackass

True but the tactics alone in a North London derby away from home is probably enough to get someone sacked, Carragher does a great analysis of Spurs midfield, or lack of one in that game. You could drive a Jose bus with a whole team through Spurs midfield with room to spare in that first half. You have Alli as a second striker and Ndombele as an AM, who are meant to be part of a midfield three. They are not taking up these positions just because they like that particular patch of grass on the pitch, it is clearly a tactical game plan by NES.

Then on top of this is the stats from Spurs this season, last in the league for shots on target, chances created, and km's travelled. They have also allowed the second most shots on their own goal, you can argue that the players need to take a look at themselves and that is most likely true, Spurs needed a clear out three years ago. But it is always the manager who walks, not the players.

Quality post here, Scroto

Stats don't lie.
Despite Carragher being a former liverpool player, he is one of the few footy pundits that I find both entertaining and informative.

Cheers, even looking at his victories Spurs have looked suspect. Wolves absolutely battered them, Wolves had 25 shots to Spurs 8, daylight robbery by Spurs to get a win there. The Watford game was closer and they got a win out of that, but they were getting dominated by Palace even before the red card. And now Chelsea and Arsenal have blown them away.

Im not saying he will get sacked, but a loss to Villa at home and he will be skating on thin ice. Especially if it is something like a 0-2 to Villa. But who do Spurs go for if they sack him? Conte wanted his own back room staff and probably some kind of guarantees on investment in the team, which Levy will not give. They go back to Fonseca? move on to Erik Ten Hag or Potter? NES needs to go on a bit of a run of games to halt the slide, silence some of the critics and move Spurs up the table a little.

It's hard to say who is in more of a mess, Arsenal or Spurs, seems Arteta slowly starting to get things on track, NES needs to do the same.

As an Arsenal fine I'm enjoying Spurs being crap but I do feel a bit bad for Nuno, who is just in an impossible situation. To be fair, he took the job freely so I guess I can't shed too many tears but when you look at the situation from 20,000 feet it was always going to be headed for bad places.

-All the players know he was like 8th choice manager and given a short contract, so no need to really respect him.
-The best player and talisman doesn't believe in the project, wants out, and looks completely disinterested.
-He's a very defensive manager who has only had success with counter-attacking teams but Levy got himself into a bind with his stupid "return to our DNA" comments so it seems like Nuno has been told to play four at the back and more adventurous setups in general, which neither fit his style nor his players.

The best thing Nuno and Spurs could do at this point is just to go back to playing 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, just play absolute shit boring defensive tactical football in the best tradition of his Wolves sides, and hope to spring Kane and Son a couple times a game. If he does that he could still right the ship and challenge for the Europa places.

He's an abomination. An insult to Mourinho to compare them. Probably the most negative coach I have ever seen.

His football at wolves towards the end was dire.
It was horrible to watch.

Even on the opening day when Spurs played City and won the tactics were dreadful. Spurs fans weren't going to put up with watching their team sit back in 90% of games.

Be interested to see if Kane tries to force a move in Jan.

He's abysmal. Laughing at how bad of an appointment this has been.

It was shit at Wolves. He just had the Jimenez injury factor in the last season

His wolves teams scored:

47 goals in 18/19
51 goals in 19/20
36 goals in 20/21

That's a dreadful return in each season

Spurs fans were sceptical from the very beginning so no surprise seeing them give up on him pretty early. They’ve played some terrible football in the first few weeks of the PL.

Some weird patterns today too, like Son, their most lethal player, hugging the touchline for large parts of the game when he should be closer to goal. Moura coming off when he was the one getting behind our wingbacks in the first half.

The Kane situation hasn’t helped but they play some horrible football. He’s going to win the race to get sacked this season.

Hopefully for him he included some nice clause in that "we don't trust you" contract. He seems like a nice bloke but not at the required level...
Can't wait to see the absolute mess of Spurs trying to appoint a manager again

Spurs will probably sack him after this game, which will cause a meltdown of biblical proportions in the United forum.

Good times.

It would if Conte goes there but I’m fairly certain he won’t.

Get your bets in lads while there is still some money in it to be made.

Goodness me. Worst side we've played in a while.

Kane looks a shadow of his former self and like he doesn’t want to be there. Should have been sold and a major rebuild started.

Can criticise the manager, who could Spurs have got to do any better given the situation. Not really Nuno's fault, poisoned chalice. Say they sack him, who's going to improve them that would also take the job?

They are terrible, in every department, he won’t last much longer.

Literally the best side we could have played today. Seen as a medium sized club but in form similar to us with worse players.

What do you expect from the 14th choice for Levy. Utterly dire football.

He's gone, i would think they'd want Pochettino back, but they are kind of in the same boat as us? Who do they get in but Conte really, i feel bad for Nuno but to be honest i've no idea why Tottenham even got him in the first place, a very negative manager who doesn't play great football, did some decent things at Wolves but....

Reckon he’s gone after this they’re awful and the fans are pissed

Spurs need an attack ordinated manager. Even mid table sides offer more potency in attack. United look disjointed in defence when the team need to attack this season, spurs look out if ideas when on the front foot. Nuno only has himself to blame Moura, Son and Bergwign are good enough to cause problems.

Insane that they went with him over Potter. I have a feeling he be sacked this season and replaced with Potter

The worst summer for Spurs. They got a manager who was sacked, and inspired zero confidence.

Then, they pinned all those hopes to Kane. He cannot turn up each game, espeically in a competive EPL. 3rd tier European competition works for him.

I’m sure it doesn’t help he’s got a shrivelled up husk playing where Kane used to be.

Quite comfortably the worst team we've played this season. A little surprised as to how awful they were. It was obvious after 15 mins that to lose this game we'd had to gift it to them.

Spurs are so embarrassing it's ridiculous. They look even worse than what they were under Mourinho.

Disastrous appointment.
