Nuno Espírito Santo: Nottingham Forest manager

Okay, let's figure this one out. Spurs and United played a game on Saturday that would decide the fate of the managers in charge of those clubs. Now, the winner would be 'rewarded' by getting to keep their underperforming manager, and the loser would be 'punished' by getting a brand spanking new manager in the form of Antonio Conte.

Yeah, that happened. That's some impressive mindfeckery right there, next-level stuff.
 the answer to that "can a loss be a win" conundrum.

After a decade of achieving so much, Conte seems to be committing career suicide.

At the same time, can't help but feel it's a bit rubbish that Spurs will now have a better manager than us (by a country mile). Thankfully, he'll still be managing Spurs so will do feck all there.

Nah think you will find it's that utter joke of a club we support that are the ones committing career suicide

Could anyone imagine if conte took over spurs and he managed to win a cup for them, :( why we struggle to win any

Hope he does just to stick it right up our board who have fecked up massively

You're a strange kind of 'supporter' aren't you?!

Wanting another team to win a trophy to spite the team you supposedly 'support'...

I wonder how he'll get on. Less pressure at Spurs than United arguably but that Tottenham squad needs a lot of work. United aren't that far off a title challenge and would've been the easier job imo.

I am under no illusion that he would have picked United, I don't think they have told him either he is not on their list, or Ole's job is secure.

What changed Conte's mind is that in July they wouldn't accept Conte's terms of having a say in transfer decisions and having to make radical squad changes.
Now the tables turned, a bit too late to save the season IMHO, but they turned. January transfers rarely settle as well as pre-season transfers.

Zidane will take the united job if it became available.
Why would he? He's very clearly waiting for France IMO. He's won everything with club and country as a player, won everything at club level as manager. I doubt he cares about the premier league when he has 3x CL medals as a manager already. A world cup and a euro title with the national team and nobody will be able to match what he has done as player and manager. Why risk your reputation at a disaster club like United?

When Zidane quit RM, the stories in the Spanish press (clearly planted by his people) were that he wanted to manage again soon.

The French national team job won't be available until at least a year from now. Possibly longer.

Because there was extreme tiny possibility that France tanked in the EURO, and Deschamps decided to step down after being in this job for a long time. Zidane people just did what needed to inform his availability.

The management of Al-Ittihad will meet soon to decide on the future of Nuno Esperito Santo.

Mid-October “he had already received the message that he had to do better”, so far it has failed. Al-Ittihad is 11 points behind the Leader.

Yeah because he wouldn't have been aware.

How does Nuno Despacito keep getting these jobs?!

What do you mean by "keep getting these jobs"? He's only had two jobs in England. The first one, he did pretty well in. The other one, not so much.

How does Nuno Despacito keep getting these jobs?!

He was a very solid, if extremely risk adverse, PL manager. It was only once he tried to get Wolves playing more expansive stuff that he completely lost it. Reckon Forest won't care how they play as long as they stay up, probably quite a good appointment.

He's nothing without dodgy Mendes ownership handing him the best of the rest Portuguese league based players on a platter.

We play forest in a few weeks don't we? Timing seems about right....

I watch Al-Ittihad closely and here’s my evaluation of his time there. It would be unfair to judge him based on his sacking due to both the circumstances and the generally hire and fire culture in the Saudi leagues.

He inherited a side on top form that narrowly missed out on the league. They essentially bottled it in 21/22 under Cosmin Contra playing an attacking 4-2-3-1. Contra was sacked despite being the first Ittihad manager to seriously challenge for the title in over a decade. This was a team that, after a glory period in which they won two Asian Champions Leagues on the trot in 2004 and 2005, became so average that at some stage around 2018 they were in serious danger of relegation. So for Contra to be sacked for failing to win the league at a club that hadn’t challenged for years speaks volumes.

Nuno Espirito Santo came in and tightened the ship with his 5-2-1-2. A solid back 3 and double pivot, two flying wing-backs, two Brazilian #10s in Coronado and Romarinho and a target man with an excellent goal record in Saudi Arabia in Hamadallah.

At first, it was an unpopular move. The defensive style is not something appealing to a big Saudi team and they were grinding out wins thanks to moments of brilliance from the Brazilians or Hamadallah. But once Itti went ahead, they were tough to break down and always a threat on the counter and they went on to win the league quite easily.

The second season ruined his project there. The signings of Fabinho and Kante were an upgrade on his pivot at the time. But the signing of Benzema ruined the balance. Nuno was loyal to his top scorer Hamadallah and tried to play them together even though they are both #9s who lack pace. He also tried to fit Coronado and Romarinho into the team. The balance was off and he had to depart from his 5-2-1-2 to fit them all in together. He tried a 4-diamond-2, a 4-3-2-1, a 4-2-2-2… it just didn’t work. The team lacked cohesion and Nuno had no choice but to play these stars all together even though it ruined the shape and balance of the team.

At Forest, he is likely to get solid again and there are no superstars he will be forced to play. He has his target man, wing-backs, #10s and speedy forwards and a team that is well-versed in a 5 at the back system.

Good move from Forest if they want to stay up!

They'll care how they play when they have to watch his dung football every week.

Not if they stay up. 1 point from the last 15 and slowly dragging themselves toward a relegation scrap. Now isn’t the time to care about ‘good’ football, look at Burnley.

They have the same amount of points as last year at this stage and they stuck with him then.

Nuno plays garbage football and won't get them to 40 points.

It's just the natural final step to becoming Jorge Mendes FC now that Wolves have apparently cooled off on being so.

He'll be Nuno Dispirited Santo when they sack hm for Fat Sam in March...

He won’t last 12 months - The Greek will sack him, the supporters will hate him.

I've kind of erased his time at Spurs from my memory, he didn't last long tbf. Only thing I really remember was how boring he is to listen to, he's like a softly spoken robot. He did well at Wolves initially though so might be a decent appointment for Forest if he can replicate that.

That was quick
It’s how the Greek works - he’s been talking to other managers for a couple of weeks. When he sacked O’Neil for Hughton they were virtually able to shake hands as one was leaving and the other entering.

Mods - we have a Santos Forest sack watch title change please? Best be quick he won’t be here long

Sounds like he knows what he's doing then.

Think hes a decent manager and would do well at Forrest.

If he flops I'm sure I'll be quoted
