Nuno Espírito Santo: Nottingham Forest manager

If Conte goes to Spurs, doubt he can get them to top 4 any time soon. I don't think a big miss for United in the way Tuchel was.

Levy is hands down the worst chairman in the league. By a long way.
Nope. I don't buy that for a second. He's manage to make Tottenham a global brand that is likely to be involved in the sweeping changes involving the top tier of the sport. At this juncture, it is probably more important than a club like Spurs actually winning trophies.

As a comparison point: Leicester, who have been more successful over the last 25 years but have not had a sniff of getting into any proposed Super League.

Conte is not a good fit for United because he wont tollerate being a puppit for the Glazers. Thats the only reason.

If Conte goes to Spurs he must be desperate for work.

I really don't see how it goes well. He's an elite coach and Spurs have good players. However, Spurs don't have great players. Also Spurs don't have the money to sign great players either. If Spurs couldn't give Pochettino and Mourinho what they wanted in the transfer market, will they be able to deliver for Conte..?

How much do you think Spurs can get for him, playing quite poorly with his contract running down?

This. I guess if he really wanted a challenge he could go there, but if he wants to win anything he would be foolish to take them on.

Kane and Son carried them hard last season, and with one of them having downed tools its no wonder they look so toothless.

That’s a, let’s say interesting, take on it.

It's not about standards. Conte just isn't a good fit for us.

I would understand this argument if we where replacing Sir Alex in 2013. But now, it's really an obsolete argument.

At United the only good thing we have is the squad. The rest of it is dire. Rubbish coaching, Rubbish tactics, no promotion of youth, over £100m worth of new signings from summer 20 & 21 sitting on the bench not getting a chance. Ole and his standards DO NOT FIT UNITED

Your literally turning your nose up on a serial winner who's still in his prime (so not Jose, a very lazy comparison), with where we are and how low our standards have become, I think Conte is becoming a better fit as each day passes.

Such a joke. Conte is arguably the best there is and he’ll be one of four of the very best we’ll have to compete with as we stick with the novice. This is a disgrace.

Newcastle will probably get the next best option before we do because this club is an absolute shambles.

Great, even bigger financial problems for Spurs and less pressure for Ole. Both teams went into game knowing its make or break for managers. One team showed fight for the manager another looked like they arent giving flying fk, so the decision isnt unexpected. Hope they get Conte and finish out of 4, would be poetic.

17 games in charge. Great appointment by Levy.

Will be interesting to see if they can actually get Conte. It's not like it's the most attractive project at the moment. Could make sense for him to wait around for a better opportunity.

Conte already rejected them. He isn't joining Spurs but having Ole and Carrick and looking down on Conte is nuts. I wish he was our manager instead of this incompetent bunch.

Ole deserved to be sacked a week before Nuno, except our board apparently is more shameless than Spurs ownership

I disagree. Saturday's result did not change my mind regarding the need to replace OGS, but that doesn't mean the answer has to be Conte. We need someone to build on what's there and develop this club into something that isn't a disjointed series of two-year projects, which is what Conte will be no matter how successful he is. Also, the squad we have doesn't suit him, or his preferred system.

You know it's not as simple as that.
I've yet to see a reason why he wouldn't work here? what's not to like about a guy that's won the last 3 league titles at every club he's been at. Baffling.

Hopefully that's the end of NES in English football. One less exponent of brutal football to watch twice a season.

This is why Saturday’s win was a disaster.

All those who called out people rooting for a loss. Here’s your reward. Another 6 months of incompetence while Spurs get one of the best in the world. The damage from that result is going to last a long time.

People here really underestimate how good Conte is. How he always overachieves. Spurs may be his biggest challenge but there’s still some players there and he’ll get ridiculous performances out of bang average players like he always has. He also must have assurances from Levy about investment. He’ll turn it around faster than people can believe.

It’s looking increasingly likely Conte will be at Spurs

Which I too am shocked at!

Conte is not a Yes man, which makes me think Levy must have re-evaluated his previously crappy project and presented a new one.

It’s not money that will be bringing Conte in, he can get that anywhere, his stock is very high, he will be going surely because he’s been told something he likes and can go with

I think people conflate Conte with Mourinho and assume that Conte would bring the same toxicity that Mourinho does.

Conte is a better manager than OGS? By a mile.
Do you want to improve a direct rival by keeping your inferior manager while letting him join your rivals? Never.

The problem here is not just how much would Conte improve United, is about how much you don't improve, how much can Spurs do it and how much harder it becomes to make it into top 4 when you have the inferior manager between Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel and Conte. It's like every team with money wants to wage war on their tank and United are choosing to go with a Fiat Panda.

That he invariably quickly falls out with the club and hence is a short-termer, that he demands a level of control I don't think the manager should have and which is basically incompatible with having a consistent, long-term recruitment strategy and that his preference is for a system/formation to which our present squad is badly suited? One could also have a thought or two about the disruptive ego explosions that might follow from combining him with Ronaldo and Pogba, neither of whom seem likely to thrive under him. As well as the obvious inadvisability of continuing the cycle of fundamental changes in direction every 2-3 years. In my view, he is self-evidently pretty much everything we should seek to avoid. I would be shocked and deeply dismayed if we sign him, and it would certainly make me lose a lot of confidence in how this club is run. And yeah, he's good at winning football games, but he's not the only one who is.

Just to be clear, I'm not looking to wum or get into any silly arguments, i'm just giving my point of view.

But this is where I think your wrong in regards to a series of disjointed two-year projects.

The squad

Ronaldo, Cavani, Pogba, Lingard, Matic, Mata & probably VDB to wont be here in 2 years time. Some wont be here after this season. That's a massive part of our squad gone, so no long term here.

We've given Moyes a 7 year contract thinking of long term - Didn't work out
LVG was a poor appointment as he was looking to retire and his way was antiquated
Jose - I believe if we where to take him it should have been in place of Moyes, but by the time he came to us he was shot as an elite manager and I also believe he didn't get the targets he wanted, so a mixture of bad timing and our board letting him down (see Harry Maguire)
OGS - Interim manager, our board acting like fans and not using their heads when appointing him permanently. He was given a bundle of cash, got everything he wants and isn't good enough.

Conte would come in, get the best out of what we have maybe even improve some players e.g. when he was at chelsea, Moses and Alonso turned into good players and title winning players. He would strip the squad of the fat, we still have too many players and too many not good enough.

He might only be here for 2/3 years, but he would be successful (he always has been) and I believe ready for the next manager to continue on with a more manageable squad.

Can I also say, that this long term manager idea doesn't exist any more. It takes you to take a short term view and if it works it'll naturally become a long term thing

That's my view, I appreciate it's not yours and many others. But maybe an angle that you haven't really thought of.

Conte is a good fit for Spurs, they are now not really after long term success, but short term. They need a trophy. He can provide a cup for them, I'm pretty sure of that, but he won't last more than a couple of seasons and Lev can get back to his project, whatever that now is.

I can't see Spurs spending a lot of money on Conte's say so though, and he's going to want to bring players in in January.

I 100% agree with this, intelligently put.

Bet many thought the same about Tuchel. Anyway, we are just 2 points ahead of Spurs at this stage. If they get Conte, what makes you think they cannot finish ahead of us when Nuno, a far worse manager, still has then within touching distance. We will look like the absolute morons that we are if we let this happen and stick with Ole and his shite of on stick football and bs talks.

I invariably agree with this, very well put. I think people are just more annoyed to see Spurs take action so swiftly, and not us, regardless on if it's rational and thought through or not

Personal opinion of course

But it does look ridiculous that United have stuck with Ole, when managers like Conte, who wins things, is available.

Only way to find out if he’d be a good fit at United is to try and find out. Surely better than sticking with Ole and going nowhere without question

They had probably been considering sacking him for some time, then the 3-0 loss at home to a team that lost 5-0 at home to their biggest rival was final straw for Levy and co

At the end, it leaves us with the option of Zidane. A much respectable option in my opinion. The league will be terribly fierce in a few months.
