Gaming No Man's Sky | 25th May New FREE Update: Leviathan

It took me an hour to realise how you run, and a further 3 hours realising you just press r3 to make you run and don't need to hold it down.

I've spent last 90 mins stuck in a massive cave

Spent and hour finding thanium9 or whatever forgetting its in asteroids. I'm on my 3rd ship, same hyperdrive problem though, forgot about pre order stuff, will enter my code now

Ha that's awesome. What the feck is it and I hope you named it well. I'm actually loving this game after playing for about 5 hours. Done two planets then flew to space station before I called it quits for today. Not come across any animals that funny though and where can I get a gun like that? I still got that shitty 60s sci fi looking one you start with.

Not sure hyperdrive stuff shows up while current ship is the preorder one as that already has a hyperdrive

Ah ok, i had the standard ship and did the Atlas instructions to fix my hyperdrive on the starting ship. Then i transferred ships to a newer ship that i found crashed, but didn't have the materails or ability to craft the items needed to repair the hyper-drive and refuel it. It was a ages before i could hyperdrive again.

What ship sizes have people managed to get so far, then? I've got an 18 which isn't amazing but does for now, essentially looks like a sport version of the starter ship. Got 2m units to spend but I really want the one that looks like an X-Wing...

I've not yet. Will probably end up walking for over an hour to get there.

Found a few multi tool holograms on wall mounts but they're just upgrades.

Annoyingly I've found a few aliens but they wanted something that I can't get on this current planet like carbon. Think when I find my way back to my ship I'll go to space station and have a look around.

Think I'll end up needing a spreadsheet to list upgrades and stuff I need. Found an exosuit upgrade to help protect me from the heat which'll be the first thing I'll build.
When you find an outpost with an alien inside (where there's also a trading sphere), there's a thing on the wall that kind of unfolds to show you an alternative multitool. Thing I got my latest one for about 70k.

I'd spent ages earlier scouring around for the final couple of species on a planet where there's about 12, turned out I'd forgot to look within the abundant seas... Also just in case anyone hadn't noticed it - when you're scanning and a species has a red dot under it, means it's yet to be scanned. Green means you've already done it. Scanning flying things is tough as feck (think you have to get the red dot in the centre circle of your scanner for a couple of seconds).

Final reviews at last beginning to trickle in on Metacritic. Currently sitting on a 68 aggregate score but admittedly that's from a total of only nine publications so far. Hoping to see it raise into at least the low seventies by the time all the reviews are accounted for.

Tbf, even though I'm hooked it's not an amazing game aside from the technical aspect of it all. If they don't update it well, this game will be forgotten within a few weeks. There's simply not enough to it. I'd give it a 7/10 as it stands.

I got one with 21 slots.

In other news, my current system is a fecking gold mine. LITERALLY. Do the drones NEVER care if you mine gold, or is it just my drones in this system?

Anyway, am grinding and have gotten myself 1,1 million over the course of the day, and counting.

Did you find it or buy it? Love the idea of finding a great ship and fixing it, but not sure it's likely. Tempted to just get enough money to buy one of the big 26+ers. Then get a bunch of weapons.

And yeah I'm still never sure when the sentinels will choose to attack or not, they've never attacked whilst I've been mining the big stones that chip off (like gold) gradually rather than explode into bursts, and most of the time they'll let me have all the plutonium I want, but sometimes they'll get arsey. Not been on a planet where they've been classed as anything more than "normal" though.

I haven't found one yet that's worth the trouble fixing, but then again I guess I've not been the most thorough explorer.

And oooh, that's a good observation, the exploding ones DO tend to get them riled up.

No pre-load on PC :o sake

Stay strong WW, you'll get there!

So yesterday, after warping 15 times, I find two planets in a row that hate me. First one had sentinel status "Frenzied" (written in red letters), and with tons of animals that want to attack me. I couldn't even explore a monolith without getting rammed and having to flee. Lots of valuables, but the planet wigs me out too much.

Second planet in the system had intensely hot temperatures (again, written in red).

If someone thinks it's too easy to survive, keep looking, there are challenges out there.

Yeah I had one of those "Frenzied" ones last night, I didn't spend too much time there. I think for those really hostile planets you really need to just take a while & go to a station to plan, clear your suit & ship inventory of anything but essential items then craft yourself upgrades that'll help you last longer like longer sprinting, better shields, weapons etc, as these planets usually contain really valuable items so you don't need as many slots as usual, just run about gathering as many as you can and GTFO and sell them.

Is this game worth getting?

From the comments I've seen it sounds interesting, and I like Minecraft so the 'minecraft in space' descriptions aren't off putting, but is it worth waiting until it drops to Minecraft prices rather than paying £40?

It's worth getting for some people and not others. I love it, but it's difficult to fully recommend it as it's such a unique game and you have to put time into it to reap rewards.

Got sucked into another few hours of playing last night and managed to get my Hyperdrive working. Turned it off after I warped to some new place as I realised if I dared go near that first planet I wouldn't have gone to bed. Going to put in a serious shift this evening when I get home. Really enjoying it so far.

Really enjoying this at the moment. At times it does feel a bit limited in what you can do, but I'm enjoying just spending an arvo cruising about exploring a plant before heading off to the next one.

Figures. With all my fussing about the ship 8 hours away, when I was 10 minutes away from my main ship I ended up finding another beacon to a crashed ship just 5 minutes away.

I found an awesome planet today, full of snow and dinosaurs with lots of resources to collect. Think I'm going to spend a while here.

Hope they add a lot of new stuff to the game. Even simple missions would be great - meet alien, he's looking for something, go find that something. Can't help but think that if this idea landed with a bigger studio the content could be better.

So I've just found out if you place mods & upgrades for suit/ship/multitool in the slot next to similar ones you get more of an effect on your stat boosts, like this....

Yeah or Bounty Hunter missions where you have to track down a ship (through different systems) with stolen cargo, where you can choose to keep the loot or return it to see if the reward is better.

so whose idea was it to make R3 run fast and L3 scanner?
No idea, should be the otherway round. I'm constantly messing it up.

I've found a great plant just now, gold pillars everywhere and big creatures roaming about. Think I'll farm and build up some cash for a while here.

I have two crashed ship markers but it won't let me reach them, they keep getting further and further away

Yes but I've followed it around the planet
I wonder if you are making the same mistake I was

I thought the number was telling me how many miles I was away, but in fact it's telling me how long in will take to get there. So when I was slowing down as I thought I was approaching it looked like I was getting further away as the number increased

This is so disappointingly shit but I shouldn't be surprised. It's a glorified tech demo.

I'm close to giving up, can't get any antimatter and I didn't go to a second start system to get formula. Why doesn't it tell you this.

Went back to my original planet and found a space port, managed to buy antimatter off one of the ships there

Steam reviews are universally negative over the quality of the port. Not a great launch.
