Gaming No Man's Sky | 25th May New FREE Update: Leviathan

Between buying this soon and the proper football starting this weekend I'm a gibbering wreck here.

I'm enjoying it so far, although i can see why people get bored. Personally i think they have a good basis of a game, a few more features and it'll be great.

- Base Building (which i think is coming)
- Space Station building
- Create ships, all the way from small ships to massive freighters.
- Fix multiplayer.
- Trade Stations become auction houses so game has it's own economy.
- Maps (let me know where iv'e been and how to get back)

Base/station building and multiplayer would probably lure me in, as it stands I can just tell its going to bore me to tears. Only so much "ooh and aaah"ing I can do as I planet hop and collect resources.

You need to follow the "quest" markers, you should eventually get given some antimatter to mark a warp cell with, which fuels the hyperdrive. Then once you've travelled to the next system, you should get a marker to a place where you'll find the recipe for it.

In my second system I landed on the planet, saw a fifty foot high lump of gold, spent about twenty minutes mining it, then flew off only to have my first run-in (read: death at the hands of) pirates  Not sure there's actually any long term consequence to dying though, given you can just fly back to your death spot and pick up your inventory.

I just went and bought it and then learned to craft it.

Been landing on some truly bland planets for the last couple of hours, no desire to stay even for 10 minutes.

Thanks guys. I've been waiting at a space station in hope of one of the ships that fly in have some but no luck. I'll try just following a marker then. I have no instant urge to leave my first system though, it only has four planets but one of them is just wonderful, has the perfect climate and is full of resources. I want to make sure I'm prepared for a difficult system full of bland planets.

I found the blueprint by breaking into a manufacturing facility. You can find location of such facilities by hacking into those orange beacons using a bypass chip.

There's a lot of very crappy planets there. I have visited maybe 30 so far and truly liked only 3 or 4.

So my black hole question has been answered.

http://www.thebitbag.com/no-mans-sky-black-holes-need-know/170954

Over the course of your journey through No Man’s Sky’s infinite universe, you’re probably going to encounter your fair share of black holes. How are these classic space phenomena modeled in game? What do they do? Where do they lead to? Read on to find out, but be warned; some spoilers may be included.

What’s On The Other Side Of No Man’s Sky’s Black Holes
If you were hoping for an Interstellar-like fourth dimension on the other side, sorry to say but you’re going to be disappointed. In No Man’s Sky, black holes function essentially like massive teleporters, quickly shuttling you from one point of the galaxy to another.

First-hand accounts from players on Reddit state that jumping through a black hole will always bring you 1,000 – 2,000 light years closer to the center of the universe. Do keep in mind that Black Holes are one-way journeys. Going through one will deposit you at a random point in the galaxy, and the only way to get back to the system you were in is to trek there manually.

One player on Reddit said that after jumping through a black hole, he was over 11,000 light years away from the previous planet he was at. Some streamers have even reported jumps of over 30,000 light years. Make sure you sort out any business you have at your current location before making the jump. Entering a black hole will also inflict some damage to your equipment and deposit resources into your ship’s inventory.

That’s pretty much all there is to it. No Man’s Sky is still young, so it’s highly likely that there are several secrets still out there waiting to be discovered. Could there be more to black holes? You’ll have to keep playing to find out. If you discover the fourth dimension on the other side, be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Well Multiplayer is meant to be in the game, but two players met and didn't see each other....

Base building is coming according to the creator, but unless they allow other players to visit, those bases to function as something and you can get back to them. Well it's pointless.

Im not sure it (multiplayer) has been fully confirmed though? Its certainly been alluded to previously but nothing stating it was a dead certainty. Would be nice if it was the case and could make it very interesting coming across another player on some barren planet or in a part of space and helping each other out to explore a planet together or mine gold and protect each other from the likes of pirates and other players who might wish to attack you. I was wondering when those two players met could they due to time have been in the same place but both experiencing different times kind of like an alternate dimension.

In which case I'll wait. The game as it stands looks like an early access tech demo.

That's a big one, there should be some way of at least targeting places you've discovered/saved at and flying back there. I've hacked signal posts to point me to "new" places but it turns out to be somewhere I've been before and there was no way of knowing.

It doesn't look like you even have a player model to be honest, so not sure how you'd see another person anyway.

I can definitely see why this game is a bit...erm, marmitey. If you aren't enamoured with the scale, space adventure, visuals and randomness of it all then the gameplay cycle will get a bit tedious as its mostly going from A to B, collecting minerals and managing inventory. But I feel there's enough variety with all the stuff that goes with that, certainly to keep me hooked. The survival aspect also isn't too overbearing or annoying and you don't really have to go out of your way too much to keep your resources stocked.

I hope they fix the online issues though as while I don't really care if I meet another player, I imagine if I do it'll be a great moment when he suddenly kills me, takes all my stuff and loots my ship

I think the creator explicitly said at one point that the only way you'd ever be able to see what you looked like would be through the eyes of another player so there must have been the intention of players being able to see each other at some point.

It's one of those games that is basically half complete imo. I think if I ever did try one of these games I would put my time and energy into Star Citizen instead.

I'm spoilering it as it may be NSFW but I google-imaged him. Never heard of him but somehow I had this gut feeling that he's going to look like this, only thing missing from my concept is a black fedora and shitbeard.

If he says it's shit, I pretty much want to buy it.

Spent several hours flying around today, it's a very unusual experience in that there's really, truly nothing to do in it but it somehow keeps dragging me back. Partly because I'm looking for THAT planet, one where I'm going to find huge dinosaurs, seas of deep blue water and a lot of grass, and this is what this game should be really about - desire to find something that you hope is out there. Some magic has gone down since yesterday but I'm still enjoying it so it's good.

I found the blueprint for Atlas pass V.1. It basically gives you free antimatter from the locked debris.

I think I might fall off this a bit until Base building is added. As amazing as flying around and landing on planets is, it's pretty much the same thing over and over.

Id love to see a comparison between this and Spore (Spore from Galactic point onwards)

Seems like it could get incredibly boring quite quick. The walkthroughs looked repetitive to me, what I will say though is that the fundamentals of the game look good and in the future it could be the inspiration for something mind blowing.

Really enjoying it but I'm getting pissed off now. Landed on a planet that is incredibly volatile. Sentinels attack you as soon as they see you and I have no fuel to get off it again. Need to go hunting for plutonium but every time I do I get wiped out by the bastard sentinels. Basically trapped on this god forsaken planet forever. Forever, I say!

Still on the starter planet trying to get to the damn crashed ship.

When I was at my ship it said the crashed ship was 8 hours away. Moved an hour in the direction of the crashed ship and now its 9 hours away:

Need to find two more species on this planet. One I'm positive is flying dragonfly type creatures which have been a pain to scan. Tried zooming in or shooting them down with no luck. Other I've got no idea but found the last species about an hour from starter ship so might have to keep on walking.

Found lots of exosuit slot upgrades:

Next one costs either 90ku or 100ku which is more than I've got. Got stuff to sell but can't remember where the last sales unit was and don't want to keep traveling only to find another exosuit vendor before the sales vendor...

How do you make the multi-tool larger? I've got tonnes of upgrades for it but nowhere to place them as my multi-tool only has 5 slots or something daft like that.

How'd you get back to your ship in the end?

The multi-tool can be replaced. Sometimes you find that aliens want to offer you a new one, or you find one on a wall-mount with the option to purchase it.

I found a good looking planet and it turns out there is no life on it. Sucks. I must have visited 50 planets by now but still looking for the one. I think I'm going to get back to the good looking planet and grab some resources from there, then hop on to the next galaxy.

To be fair I got a bit tired of this today. Around 7-8 hours played so far since release and while it's still fine, some novelty has already gone. It's not a bad game, looks like a typical 7-8 game I'll go back to frequently for short 30-minute sessions but it could have been much more.

I've not yet. Will probably end up walking for over an hour to get there.

Found a few multi tool holograms on wall mounts but they're just upgrades.

Annoyingly I've found a few aliens but they wanted something that I can't get on this current planet like carbon. Think when I find my way back to my ship I'll go to space station and have a look around.

Think I'll end up needing a spreadsheet to list upgrades and stuff I need. Found an exosuit upgrade to help protect me from the heat which'll be the first thing I'll build.

You'll find them soon enough. And carbon can usually be harvested from potted plants near the NPCs. Not always enough, but there tends to be a bump. If not, go out and find a plant and shoot it.

Oh man, oh man... I've warped a bunch, seen a ton of planets and animals, started feeling a bit jaded, and then I come across this moon:

13987567_10157358591855201_7382127619553401235_o.jpg

Weather: Peaceful climate
Sentinels: Low
Flora: Empy
Fauna: Lacking.

It's totally barren, the game warns me that it has a low atmosphere and that it consumes more of my life support as a result. The landscape just floored me... sooo barren, so dead, small gusts blowing around the thin atmosphere, and I've only seen a single sentinel, which didn't give a toss about the fact that I'd mined plutonium the second before, didn't scan the area, didn't scan me.

This feels quite different to where I've been before.

Are you walking to that crash shipped? Just use your ship, and use boosters to fly to it? I had similar, just flew into space and skimmed the upper atmosphere.

Just got off my home planet, got all 8 species. I would start scanning everything even if you think it's one you've seen before. I spend ages on my 8th, and it was just a looked pretty much the same as one i already scanned.

Ah didn't know it was possible to just fly straight to it. I'll try that then

I do scan everything but not much luck so far. Will try flying to the ship and see if there's anything different there

I wouldn't transfer to the crash ship, till you learn how to craft materials for hyperdrive and it's fuel. I made that mistake and had to spend most of the day trying to find ships to trade with that carried the materials i needed.

Not sure hyperdrive stuff shows up while current ship is the preorder one as that already has a hyperdrive

Final reviews at last beginning to trickle in on Metacritic. Currently sitting on a 68 aggregate score but admittedly that's from a total of only nine publications so far. Hoping to see it raise into at least the low seventies by the time all the reviews are accounted for.
