Gaming No Man's Sky | 25th May New FREE Update: Leviathan

Which one of you is going to fly into a black hole for me to see what happens?

What is the actual goal of this game? I imagine it would be amazing at first as everything was new but after a while you're basically just flying to a new planet and saying 'oh this one looks cool'. Is there more to it than that?

Its capacity isn't really any different to the starter ship. It does seem to have an extra ability but didn't see what it was.
Cheers. I have only left my first planet and still need a hyperdrive to jump across systems. Thats why I was wary of still redeeming the ship right now in case it came with a hyperdrive.

I dont think that is possible.

My first planet was toxic with mushroom like trees and some animals. Was quite depressing actually...

From what i understand, there's like a loose goal of finding out what's at the centre of the universe. But other than that it seems kind of like what you describe, massive and interesting because of that, but essentially somewhat empty.

I ballsed up a little, thought it autosaved right at the start so closed down earlier and looks like I was wrong  New planet pretty nice too though, purple grass all over the shop and some glowing green plants illuminating caves. Weird little brains on six legs keep attacking me though.

Does anyone know what the rules are with sentinels, how much you're allowed to mine before they'll attack? Wary of the little feckers.

It saves each time you leave your ship.

Yesterday I was mining for Plutonium when sentinels showed up and started scanning the exact spot where the deposits were. Then they turned and moved towards me and started scanning me. Proper shat myself a that moment but they left me alone

How's the upgrading stuff side of thos game, do you have a lot of shit to improve (gun, suit, ship) with loads of tiers or is it very superficial and quick to max?

I think it's great. You always seem to have something to improve in order to do a range of different things. Every solar system requires something different to survive it.

OK, that's the tiebreaker for me then. Usually that sort of stuff is enough to keep me entertained, let alone all the rest. Am going to give it a try.

Yeah, that was my error  My replacement planet is awesome though, literally only just stopped wandering around it to fix the ship and get into space, then I flew back down to another random point and found some ancient ruin. Should probably stop loitering.

Still on first planet. Got a marker which says crashed ship but also says its 8 hours away...

Just got it. Last game I was this hyped about was Watchdogs which ended up decent but not as good as I'd hoped. This better live up to the expectations

4 hours after I popped this disk in, on my third planet. Will revisit them all in the first solar system before I go off again. LOOVING this.

Okay so it says I'm like 20 minutes away from shelter. Do I really need to walk/run that far or is there a way to fast travel? I had to travel about half an hour just to reach some deposit to fix my pulse engine.

And how do I find carite sheet to craft?

Don't think so but you can hold R3 to sprint for a bit. I hope there is a way to travel faster as going on an 8 hour walk to find the crashed ship is nuts

Carite sheet is just crafted from iron, press square on an empty crafting slot to make one (obviously you'll need to have mined some iron). Have you fixed your scanner? Unless you're on a really empty planet it shouldn't take that long to find stuff.

Aye fixed the scanner and launch thrust. Just need to fix the pulse engine now and that's me. Cheers.

Spent three hours with this so far, absolutely in awe. I expected a decent, interesting game but I never expected to be this hooked from the start while doing absolutely nothing of note. I spent an hour looking for herid and another looking for zinc on a rather bland planet and it was a complete blast. I left and went to the nearest planet, landed and was greeted by a friendly space deer on a planet full of snow and mountains.

Game is absolutely gorgeous, the views are incredible. It's so addictive. Gonna spend an hour on this planet improving my gear. Is there a way to get more slots?

Zinc and heroid were impossible to find on mine. There was just a small area quite far away from my spaceship with some zinc.

Don't worry about pulse engine fuel on the planet. You will get loads by shooting asteroids.

Fast travel requires your ship. 20min foot journeys will become 10second shop rides.

I started getting into the trading until some pirates kept attacking me for my bounty.

BTW I got lost in a huge underground cave on my first planet. The game will not help you to get out so be careful!

Great to see most on here are enjoying it. The Caf is usually one of the harshest when it comes to games so anyone considering buying should take that into consideration. I honestly think it's a brilliant game, but definitely won't be for everyone.

I can't say how it will hold its appeal over time, could wear out after a while but if I get 25-30 hours out of this it will be money well spent anyway. First 3 hours have been incredibly enjoyable.

Yeah that's my concern too, however you have to remember that Hello Games are also going to be updating this constantly by the sounds of things. That makes me excited about what's to come even if I do get bored soon.

Beautiful planet, not a single animal on it, though.

This is so dope. I love how the mechanics of flying feels so different depending on whether you're in space or in the atmosphere. Part of me wants to warp, but I really feel I ought to give my first solar system a proper go through.

I don't work the next two days. Glad I've got a wife who's a gamer, many wouldn't stand for what the next two days are going to look like

I watched this video earlier and it killed whatever little hype I'd managed to conjure up in recent days. I know it sounds fickle but I tend to agree with Jim Sterling on most of his impressions.

Incidentally, why is this so expensive for an alleged indie game?
Here's the cache version of his review

I’ve seen things you people would easily believe. I’ve not seen attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched no C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. There are no moments to lose in time like tears in procedurally generated rain.

Time to Sky.
Also the reason you have to read a cache version is because someone attack his site - because of the review

Video games are awful.

Fixed. Fanboys (and haters) destroy everything.

I can't trade anything. Whenever I approach the weird alien I see 'no empty slots' - is it no empty slots of his or mine?
