Nkunku | Chelsea player

I could be wrong but I have a strong feeling this goes similar to Werner and he's back in Germany within a season or two.

I'm not sure where Chelsea are going to use him either. He's a strange one. I can't say I've seen lots of him but he's not a winger or a striker is he?
He is a lot better than Werner at football. He is not a classical striker but a very good attacker.

I think he will be a decent squad player for them.

I hope I am wrong but I am quite convinced he will do very well with in the PL with Poch... If the Ukrainian Iwobi turn up good as well, they will have improved their attack massively.

Nkunku aside, it's mad to think of how good Dele was and how fast his career nosedived.

I was never a huge fan of his overall play, but yeah it's crazy he's not just putting up 10 goals and 8 assists every year as a #10 in the mid-table, he was pretty damn good in the box for a midfielder.

Will he play striker or on the wing? His finishing is pretty good.
Most likely the deli Ali position (second striker) unless, Jackson doesn't hit the ground running. Or if they get someone like cherki or Witz.

Madueke/Cherki - Nkunku - mudryk/sterling
------------------- Jackson

Madueke - Cherki or Witz- Mudryk/sterling
------------------ Nkunku

I was watching Szoboslai highlights and in a lot of them Nkunku was finishing off good chances. Annoying that he's going to Chelsea.

I don’t think he’ll suit Chelsea.

He’s a player that stood out behind a striker; in a team that plays 100 mph counter attacking football.

Teams will sit in and play deep vs Chelsea, and not leave the space in behind, and none of the proposed front 3 behind the striker (Sterling, Mudryk, Nkunku, Madueke etc) seem very creative to me.

Odds are he'll be playing behind Jackson - whose job it will be to push opposition lines deeper and allow Nkunku space to work. Nkunku is a tremendous transition player but his all-around game is far far more evolved than someone totally random off of the top of my head like, say, Timo Werner.

Also agree to some extent that Mudryk needs space to be effective - but don't think this applies to Madueke, who was among the very best wingers in terms of dribbling in the PL last year (obviously there are sample size issues, but compared to Mudryk, Madueke looks far more polished and much more of a threat in the opposition final third).

I don’t know how he’ll do but Chelsea really need him to have a big impact, like when Bruno, Alexis, or Hazard first arrived. There just aren’t a lot of goals in the rest of their attackers. Mudryk and Madueke obviously could improve but so far neither has shown the ability to impact matches in the final third. Sterling has played a zillion career minutes for his age and looks cooked. Jackson is raw and primarily a counterattacking striker. They need Nkunku to step in and get 20-25 goals plus assists because nobody else is coming anywhere near those numbers.

Is that meant to be Wirtz? Are Chelsea linked with him too? Was just thinking about him the other day and his I'm surprised nobody has been linked.

Did Chelsea just buy a whole new side? I lost track of who they signed so far and who still plays for them. What's their defensive situation?

Yea Wirtz, typo. There are rumors that chelsea are looking at either Cherki or Wirtz. Wirtz is much more expensive, but there is some interest there and both players are on their radar. I don't believe Wirtz is leaving this season unless a big offer comes and I don't see chelsea paying £70m plus for Wirtz after getting Caicedo, but who knows.

Nah, they sold a lot, but they haven't really been that active for first team players in the market yet. Only jackson so far and some deals that was done last season coming to their team. Their defense is still the same but with Colwill, matsen and gusto joining. The focus seems to be on young players for this chelsea team under Pochettino, which seems to work for Arteta and poch team in the past.

Wirtz is not leaving Leverkusen this summer.

I’ve never felt he was that good, despite whatever numbers he has achieved. He’s good, but nothing special. That said, I think he has a very good mentality, which coupled with even just ‘good’ can be enough to make someone a very good player.

When he was coming through in midfield at PSG I thought he was a better prospect than I see him now as a striker or whatever he is.

What's the point of sharing this? It's the definition of a worthless statement.
It tells us more about you than him.
What's the point of sharing your thoughts on that post?

Oh that's right, this is a forum where people post things they want to discuss or think others may find interesting.

If you don't give a shit then fair enough but just ignore it rather then be needlessly shitty to someone.

I'm geniuny curious what key piece of information I'm missing.

Why does there have to be any "key information"? It's a thread about a particular player and someone posted a recent quote from him.

Because usually people don't go into threads posting "water is wet", so I have to assume there's something that just went overy head.

The way the statement is structured, it sounds like an answer to reporter asking him about joining Chelsea after their league finish. The reply is what you would expect, but also good after Ralf Rangnick said before the transfer window opened that Nkunku’s camp should try to void the agreement to join Chelsea.

I thought this was interesting. It tells me he’s a confident man ready to set the prem alight. And if he doesnt we’ll all come here to laugh at him.

It’s like you’ve all forgotten how quickly things can turn around having seen firsthand what a great coach like Ten Hag did. United were coming off of a woeful season under Ole/Rangnick where everyone here was screaming that you’d happily sell every player in your squad and then you were totally transformed in the span of a few months.

We now have a great coach in who will have loads of time on the training pitch since we’re totally out of Europe and we have an extremely talented young squad. Just 3-4 key signings and I think we’re right back in the mix for top 4.

I completely agree, I mostly listen to Stephen Howson who is fair but from time to time I listen to “The Football Terrace” on YouTube, which is a lot of fun cause it’s emotional and the banter is good but I know what it is- popcorn talk and there’s a lack of statistical awareness and more heart and mind. That being said I remember two years ago the way a lot of people slagged Arsenal and I thought exactly what you said - a few signings and they could be pretty dangerous. It can happen quickly with the right planning.

But I’m interested to see if you found Pocchetino a great coach when he was at psg and even before, personally I did. I thought he could make a difference with more spending power but I’m curious if you felt the same or did it change when he signed for Chelsea.

honestly you may not even need 3-4 to make top four if he has the players playng as a team, you could honestly do it this season because of him and the talent there.
This is the danger of agreeing a transfer so far ahead of time. No Europe for him now and a very broken squad that he joins.
This sentiment here that we have a broken squad and that we’re going to be in the gutter for years is funny to me. Gone off injured Vs Dortmund. Was limping for 5 minutes after getting a whack on the knee. Hopefully will be alright by next week.

Both teams should refuse to play on NOW. I honestly wasn’t paying attention to where these were being played, but Chicago is a HORRIBLE surface.

If they have an appearance contract everyone on both sides should feign injury now and have a margarita drinking challenge at midfield to decide bragging rights.

There's no definitive right or wrong way of looking at this. Water both is and isn't wet. So, technically saying "water isn't technically wet" is wrong
Water is a liquid. Liquids make other things wet. (Sorry, I don't have a PHD in chemistry, so you might get me with an elaborated niche take. :wenger: )

Surely not another example of a team missing one of their best players when they play the vermin? Uncanny how often it happens

Spanner in the old fantasy football for me. Had him in from the get go. Do you have any other pre season games?

None officially but Chelsea typically host a BCD friendly game before the new season starts.
