Gaming Nintendo Switch

Because whenever I've tried an online game everyone is amazing and I'm shit  Plus, I wont pay for online, so when the Switch online is all there is in a couple of years, it'd be shame to have a game that I wont play.

Still, if I get it when the Wii U service is still up, I'll give it a go!

No, it's really worth playing. It's one of the most balanced games ever, my 6 year old can jump in and score wins. It's a team game btw, so you pick it up virtually straight away.

Seriously, you are missing out.

Those had a ton of multi format games, which the Switch doesn't have. And a lot of those multi format games were improved from the previous gen versions. FIFA with a new engine. BF with 64 players online etc.

Those companies also don't rely on exclusives as much as Nintendo do. Their exclusive output isn't as good or consistent like Nintendo.

That's a bit of a stretch. Both launch line ups were mostly shit you've already played, and wasn't Fifa a rip because it was scaled back again so they could justify re-introducing the features they left out?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy with the switch launch lin-up, but let's not get silly here. Also I can remember back in the day, the snes launching with crap but Mario keeping us all busy, N64 too. Breath of wild might last us long enough to not care. (or that is my one hope to justify the cost )

I think you are underestimating the hardness of the Nintendo fan. Zelda will be on the Wii U, but the switch version is supposed to be at 60fps. Plus you cant play the Wii U version on the train, plane, bus or where ever. I think that trumps fifas new engine, BF 64 player online etc. You have also made the assumption that everyone that is getting a switch already has a Wii U. I will be getting a Switch and Zelda, probably not at launch, but I do not own a Wii U, nor ever had the desire to get one.

The switch's launch titles and games that follow months after are much better then the wii's, which was pretty terrible but that didn't stop the console from being sold out for months after its launch

Well most of this gen has consisted of shit that we already played. But Fifa, BF and COD appeal to the casuals. The switch has nothing currently that is appealing to casuals. So I don't see how it will be successful. It will have a decent launch like most consoles do but that's mostly Nintendo fans buying it. If they had the Pokemon game ready for launch then that would have been a game changer due to the success of Pokemon Go.

Pre-ordered the Switch. Maybe I'm being a fool but I have a good feeling about this one.

The best thing about the Wii-U was being able to play off-screen, so having that, plus the added mobility of being able to use it as a portable system seems like a very good idea.

Hopefully there will be more must have games this time around!

I'm not denying that Nintendo fans are going to buy it. I'm arguing that you said it could be the most successful console at launch. Which it won't with the current launch software.

According to the PS4 wiki, it sold 250k in the UK in the first 2 days, which made it best selling UK launch console. I am basing that is could compete from what i have read, but if 250k is the record, then yeah i think it will beat that or get very close, providing the UK gets the allocation

So you want just another casual console? Or just weaker versions of games you can get on any other system? Even then, surely it's the likes of EA who are at fault for not satisfying you?

I'm put off a little by the lack of early games, just like everyone else, but come on even if this Zelda is the weakest of them all, when's the last console that launched with such a game? Even the "it's in Wii-U too" argument doesn't stack up, because it's still a brand new game in a series known for being up amongst the best of it's genre.

I'd take one Zelda over 20 of the same old cod/bf/fifa yearly iterations. Nintendo is and always should be a different option, not more of the same old shit.

So yeah, I'll agree that the lack of games is annoying, but no, feck the other games being the same old shite you buy every year on every other console. Nintendo's problem, and my issue with them, is the lack of middle ground.

Aside from that, on a slightly different subject, Ea are still pissed that Nintendo (and Sony originally) told them to do one when it came to full access with Origin. And rightly so. If people want EA loving then get an Xbox and be happy with that.

The one thing I would say re the games is that within the next year, the whole of nintendo will pretty much be concentrated on one console for the first time since the game boy came out. Even if third party support dwindles, it should still get a lot more first party support than the wiiu.

Just imagine all 3DS and Wii U first party games on one console

It's a sexy thought for sure  Bayo 2 followed by some Fire Emblem?! SURE!

Also at least it seems new to the general public.

Both the 3ds and Wii-U were no doubt confusing to parents who already bought their kids the ds and Wii.

On the pokemon note, both colosseum and XD were great games for the Gamecube but didn't really shift consoles. I think that's a huge factor in still no massive full on Pokemon rpg game on a home console since. No matter how awesome that would be!

Zelda differences

Differences:
Both launch on the same day, March 3.
Both have a frame rate of 30fps.
Both versions of the game offer the same content.
On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.
The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.
A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.

So not really a lot.

I think Switch will get third party support though. They're not getting it at launch because it's kind of pointless to rehash FIFA, NBA or COD from five months ago on another system when they will be getting new releases around September - exactly the time when more people will have bought Switch and could get these games too. NBA 2K18 has already been announced for Switch and in terms of mutiplatform games it's the most important one for me as I spend at least 40% of my gaming time playing 2K series, now I will be able to do that on the go and when I travel which will be huge. I reckon FIFA will also get a release in September but will have much less online population for obvious reasons.

This Switch pad will normally work outside of house, right? You don't need the actual dock for it to work and you can charge it as you'd charge a handheld?

The sooner they give up on consoles and just do games, the better.

As much as I loved playing Smash, the Mario games and Splatoon on my Wii U, having to fork out for another console just for those games is a pain on my wallet.

Could happen if this flops. But if they'd done this in 2005, we'd never have got the Wii. And what would they sell the Pokemon games on?

Edit - I guess phones

You get the feeling that they're still trying to do the whole Wii thing but motion controls are not coming back. The casuals have moved on. The Wii happened before the iPhone came out and mobile games has taken over that market.

The switch is the middle ground, a hybrid console. They have made something that could be a very lucrative market.

The motion controls will only be used game specific. The console is first and foremost a portable handheld device you can play the latest nintendo games on. The highest downloaded games ever on Apple and the Play store is Mario Run and Pokemon.

Zelda has dropped in price to £50 now on Amazon.

Kinda annoyed that I bought the Wii-U when it was first released more for Zelda than anything. Then it just sat there gathering dust after the initial few weeks with Zelda being constantly delayed. Now a slightly better version of the only game I really wanted is coming out on a new console!! Think I'll be giving this one a miss even though I've owned every Nintendo console :(

Ah... such a dilemma. I keep seeing and thinking of the NES/SNES games I could get with the £280 instead. Should I keep my preorder or wait until Mario Odyssey and keep getting retro games for now...

You could get 1/4 of earthbound ;)

I'm interested to see what will happen with the Virtual Console, especially the possibility of Gamecube titles.

More than anything else, Nintendo's handling of the VC even going back to their Wii days has continually frustrated me.

It's a huge goldmine of IMO the greatest video game library around and they've barely scratched the surface of it up until now.

The more I read about this the more I think that Nintendo are rushing the release.

They still won't answer questions about the VC and you won't be able to share videos at launch or stream movies.

They would have been better off launching this in the summer.

It's an Early Access console.

 The launch just feels ridiculously rushed.

I can understand them not wanting to release the Switch at the end of the year as they would have been in direct competition with the Scorpio, but a June/July release would have been perfect.

Same here, mainly bought it for Zelda. And the most fun I had on the Wii U was replaying Wind Waker.

I'm hearing that they've not even bothered rebalancing MK8 much, if at all. Oh dear, that means there's now just the one game I'm interested in within at least the first 3-4 months and that I can get for my Wii-U.

Once again I'm considering pulling my pre-order. fecking idiots :(

What's the issue with Mario Kart balance?

That's a terrible article. It doesn't try to quantify how often those circumstances are likely to hit. So what if a 10th place gets a coin item, it's only an issue if it keeps happening? It's a weighted dice roll dependent on position and nothing more, which is correct.

I reckon Redlambs has some more specific issues, but personally I think it's fine. It's a difficult game to balance, because you want skill to overcome luck but give luck a chance. They have to be careful not to let items completely dictate the outcome of a race, and I think for the most part they've done a good job.

No idea mate. I haven't even played it. There seems to be an awful lot of disgruntled players if you google it.

What's the issue with Mario Kart balance?

I believe we've talked about this in the past, and even agreed (for once).

It's the balancing of the karts/bikes and characters that needs addressing and obviously the horrendous rubber band a.i of course. Specifically the speed/acceleration and kart handling stats not making any difference between full blocks. It severely unbalances the entire game if you choose anything other than the heavy characters and top speed karts. Not to mention they went to the effort of making the bikes interesting in how they drift, but then generally slower than the karts in the straight rendering them utterly pointless when they should be the jewels for skilled players.

Not that it ruins the game, me and the mrs still play it a few times a week including last night (can't beat splitscreen, 150cc, 12 rounds random with hardest cpu) I was just hoping for tweaks if I was to buy the game again :(

As for the items, it is a bit shit how they are distributed at times, but that's about it on that front. My main gripe with these is because the shit a.i, the speed boosts and star have been badly nerfed. Oh and I always seem to get coins when I'm behind, but the bitch gets blue shells and 3 red shells constantly. I'm convinced she cheat codes somehow :(

Ordered the grip (as well as the screen protector and case) for this last night

Was a little shocked when I read the grip that ships with the console doesn't charge the joy con things

Had initially considered the pro controller but no way am I shelling out €80 on that

Nope. That's a pretty poor video.

What's the last Mario Kart you've owned out of interest? You might beable to relate more if I can pinpoint the differences.

The Wii version mate.

I was really hoping they'd release a new Mario Kart for the Switch and not just an upgraded Mario Kart 8. Not that I dislike Mario Kart 8, but it's such a low blow to the consumer especially if they don't offer a discount to those who already own Mario Kart 8. And I doubt the game has changed much disregarding the improved battle mode.

Well, hopefully they release a new one in the future.

Have they added any new launch games? Seems like the launch is being rushed.
