Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

I'd be tempted to get another one at that price if the red one was available

Nintendo 3DS - Aqua Blue - Tesco.Direct

 feck me sideways, I am so tempted to pick one of these up at that price!!

If you use this code TDX-MNGH, and collect in store you can get it for £110

Not sure i'll get one of these; i'll get the Vita. Nintendo blew me away at E3 a couple of years ago, but since the 3DS has come out, the only game I want to play is one I played 10 years ago. I dont see that changing any time soon.

Also, the graphics are disgraceful, quite frankly; a minor improvement over the N64 which is almost 15 years old and worse than the current PSP, yet Nintendo initially charged an absurd fee for the product. £110 is much closer to sanity, but the way phone technology is improving its hard to justify the purchase.

The Vita is definitely for you.

Sony just need to get the software right, from the Android stuff through the PS Suite to minis to the full blown stuff. If they don't get that range of stuff from the free to the 2 quid to the 40 quid, it doesn't matter how good the Vita is technically.

Every piece of hardware lives and dies on it's software.

Nintendo clearly made a mistake releasing the 3DS so soon, but the price drop and advertising campaign should help them. Though they still need the games.

This 3DS thing is a total fiasco.

Nintendo announces 3DS Control Expansion Pack, details in OP, STOP POSTING SCANS - NeoGAF

So what is this? Are they really going to totally redesign the 3DS so early after release to add a second analogue stick and use this cradle thing to sweeten the blow for those early adopters? Is this just an accessory for certain games? Has the Vita having dual analogue sticks come as something of a surprised to them and spooked them in terms of the 3rd party support it's getting - ease of porting console games to it, etc.?

It's evolved, like a pokemon!

I don't get it. They announce a price drop to make the console really attractive, then they release this odd contraption which will convince half the potential buyers to wait for the inevitable revised 3DS which will incorporate the additional stick.

Am I being dramatic, or have they shot themselves in the foot?

I really have no clue as to what they are up to with this. The thing has hardly been out that long, massive price drops, design revisions, I don't think they really thought what they were doing with it through. Total clusterfeck!

It's got more than a stick....

The cradle adds R1, R2 and L2 shoulder buttons (the normal Nintendo 3DS L1 button is not replaced).

They've added the full range of console controller bumper buttons as well.

Nintendo 3DS second circle pad revealed News - 3DS - Page 1 | Eurogamer.net

Vita doesn't have those (it would mimic them I suppose with the rear touchpad if required), so if there is going to be a new 3DS redesign it's going to have to have four shoulder buttons making it one hell of a lot thicker at the base.

I think this was designed with Monster Hunter in mind since you can't really play it easily at all with just one analogue (and seeing that it was revealed along with MH3G). Hopefully it will either be thrown in with the game, not required for too many games, or is just going to be cheap.

Eh? As far as I understand it's not compulsory for MH, and the PSP version sold shitloads (in the millions) in Japan with a nub and no touch screen.

That's Sony's RRP, see what deals you get with a 3G contract. Really Lance, the thing is not expensive for what it is.

I think I must not be aware of what all it actually does. Plays games, obviously, and I know there is a web browser. Are we talking a tablet/hand held gaming device basically?

No I know it's not compulsory, but to play it with one analogue stick you need to use a very special technique with your hands... the claw

 Which seems to be quite awkward. Also, on the 3DS the d-pad is below the analogue pad, which means you wouldn't even be able to do that without an ever weirder hand distortion trick.

Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii came bundled with a Classic Controller Pro too, for the dual analogues.

I've told you before, in terms of what's inside it, it's an iPad2 x2. In theory, it could run iOS better than any iPhone or iPad (memory aside - it only has 640MB of RAM).

I remember you telling me that, but I still don't know what that means for the device in practical terms. What is this power likely to be used for?

Is it worth buying a 3ds now or wait till xmas for a better price/bundle?

There are about two interesting games for the whole thing with another one or two due to be released later this year, aren't there? I strongly considered buying it but realised I'd have nothing to do.

I might buy it just for Starfox, I loved that game!
I would also like to play Ocarina. I had it on the Gamecube when it was bundled with Windwaker but I didn't bother playing it!

Ocarina was clearly only meant to be played on consoles, can't help but feel how awkward it is on a handheld.

Really, have you played it for an extended period, or is that after a 5 minute blast?

Really, have you played it for an extended period, or is that after a 5 minute blast?

I've played it for an hour max, but that just supports my point. The controls (especially when it comes to aiming) are way too awkward and the game of that scope is waay to big for a handheld like the 3DS. Just a personal opinion though.

Sony has just wrapped up its pre-TGS press conference in which it pledged to have 100 PlayStation Vita titles on sale in the console's 'launch window'.

It didn't specify a time frame for this 'window', but one would assume it to be roughly its first three months on sale.

The machine launches in Japan on December 17 (US and EU launches went unmentioned), with pre-orders starting from October 15. 26 games will be available on Japanese launch (list here).

Sony also showed an accessory pack, which included a case, headphones, cleaning cloth, car charger, stand and other bits all tagged with Vita logos. Snazzy.

Sony promised during the conference that it would 'work hard' to support the Vita. Looks like it's off to a good start. But if you want one before Christmas you're going to need one fast importer, deep pockets and a lot of luck.

Sony has also confirmed the final specs for PlayStation Vita, including a three to five hour battery life when playing games.

The system will run for approximately five hours if you're just watching video and offer about nine hours of music playback when in stand-by mode, MCV reports.

It'll take about two hours and 40 minutes to charge from empty. Here's the full spec rundown:

Will this Vita be able to act as a MP3 player also? I know nothing about it.

I currently use a creative Zen Mp3 for my commute to work and watch TV series and movies on it and listen to music. But I use it mainly for video

So can the Vita play AVI files for instance?

Last line in the bit Lance posted Randall.

AVI is just a wrapper, not a codec, so I would expect it to play them, same as PS3 does (well the ones with the video encoded inside using the above).
