Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Oh yeah, I don't mind accelerating with X, so should suit me fine.

Agreed with the back panel, only time I've ever enjoyed that was zooming the sniper rifles on Killzone, it's okish on Strangers Wrath too. Probably turn it off if I can.

Hoping it'll be well implemented in Tearaway.

You know how to turn it off right? I can help you there if you need..

IIRC it's in the settings menus with the screen adjust and such. I'm certain I done it on another game.

Yep :) You just hold down the PS logo on your Vita and click on settings and it's all pretty simple.

Just playing a Cup on the arcade - I remembered right, it's still fecking awesome. I don't know how but the graphics aren't bad either, infact they seem better than they should be for a game so old and past it. I guess in that sense it's really suited to the Vita screen over a TV.

What is that Bilinear Filtering? Could that be anything to with the nice appearances?

Had one quick look at it, looks like a PSP game, rather than a PSX, even in stretch to fit. Impressive. Powersliding is much harder than drifting in Mario Kart and Sonic All Starts.

Yeah, right?

Obviously it's nothing on Sonic Transformed, but for a 12 year old game (or something) then it looks better than it should, right? No idea what the bilinear filtering is, never even heard/seen it before.

Yeah, powersliding is difficult you're right. It might be the best game I've ever played, definitely up there. And yes, best, not simply favourite.

Oh, I'm highly impressed with how good it still looks today. Tbh, not *that* far off Sonic Transformed on the 3DS. The Vita is a class apart graphics wise of course.

I think I prefer it more difficult though, on Mario and Sonic, it's almost too easy to abuse sliding. Seems like with Crash it'll take skill.

Most definitely - I can consta-slide on Sonic and absolutely nail, the difficulty comes in the flying bits and shit. This is much more difficult, as sliding often risks bumping into walls and means that you don't 'cut' corners efficiently so it's not always that effective.

I love the wumpa-fruit system, being able to collect 10 apples so your weapons upgrade is brilliant - and it owns any other kart racer game out there for it's shortcuts. I'm sure I don't know them all, and some of them are fecking solid to do. Did you ever find/have you seen Papu's Pyramid shortcut? (edit:) it's not the hardest shortcut, but it's hard to find, atleast that last jump jump to then practically do a hand-break type turn across the finish line.

There's also another shortcut for the same level, you can do both at the same time but I can't find anybody who has done it on youtube.

Radiant Historia
The World Ends With You
Etrian Odyssey series
The other Dragon Quest games
Shin Megami Tensai (there are a few, I think they're all apparently good)
The Dark Spire
Rune Factory 3
Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals

This game. I honestly think it's better than Chrono Trigger. If you're reading Earthquake then this game is for you!

What's Dragon Quest 6 like, Olly? I've only played 8 and loved it, and was hoping to get into the earlier ones someday.

Well, I can't really say from a proper RPG point of view because I'm not very good at them and I don't think I play them properly... but I think it's good  Really need to try and get into it properly so I know what I'm doing.

EDIT: You can rotate the camera though! That blew my mind... seriously

I'm just downloading Oddworld: Strangers Wrath on Vita because it's on PS Plus and Crash Team Racing because you morons have made me all ultra nostalgic.

Never played either Oddworld though, just thought i'd heard good things about it and, hey it's free!

That is pretty cool for a handheld RPG, to be fair. :D

FFS I want a Vita so bad now, it's almost worth buying for the store downloads. Theme Hospital, feck yeah.

It is worth it. I bought for PS4 remote play but I find myself playing it everyday. Ironically I'm mostly playing a 15 year game, but it's not the point I suppose.

There is a lot of PSP/PSX games on the Store, but there are a shit load missing. I hope they continue to add to it rather than concentrating all their efforts on streaming over Gaikai.

Skeld, Crash Team Racing is still fecking awesome and doesn't look bad at all, it still stands up today as brilliant.

I'm reading, of course! :D I'll have to nab a copy.

First time I done that was by accident, total "what the feck" moment until I figured out *how* I done it. Came in quite handy.

Dragon Quest VIII is the best. Definitely, and needs to be re-released, remade on current consoles/handhelds. Ones that aren't fecking mobile phones like they are doing..... Still, I've played quite a few of the others, and they're all quality games, even the Dragon Quest Monsters series.

Strangers Wrath is brilliant, good enough that I want to download the early Oddworlds despite not liking them at the time, perhaps I'll appreciate them more now.

It really, really is.... Shocking it's not more popular. I've already the bones of 48gb downloaded(and quite a few games are less than a gb), that's including a couple of deleted(for now at least) games too.

Nice. :D You could almost certainly emulate it by the way if you're ever interested in going down that route - it's not that CPU/GPU intensive. There's been a re-release because of popular demand but there were copies going for 100 quid or something obscene before that.

Agree on Dragon Quest 8; that was one beautiful game. It's odd that I never looked out for the series again after that - I think I just assumed it was Square-Enix's swansong and never even considered the possibility that they would come close to that level of game again.

Radiant Historia and Dragon Quest 8 soundtracks =! Feel like I say it about every JRPG score but it's so true.

I have absolutely no problem with emulation, how is DS emulation? Mouse for touchscreen?

Tbh, so far they're treating DQ better than FF. The early ones re-released on DS are all brilliant. One has like 5 separate stories, which all join up before the end, and another you get married, really fun.

RPG's do tend to have excellent soundtracks.

I think I set WASD to movement keys like you would with a SNES emulator. Works nicely that way - just like if you were playing FF6. Enjoyed it at least as much as 6, to be honest; that's how good it is! The storytelling is so unique.

Always heard Dragon Quest 5 was really good if that's the one you mean. Was going to play it but I think I'm gonna go for the English patched PS2 version.

Obligatory Dragon Quest 8 tunes:

Dunno why they didn't do this symphonic style for all versions. Typical Square Enix...always has to be something. :D

Sounds perfect then! Gotta hit that up soon.
Yeah, 5, very good game, excellent. Probably be better on PS2, tbh.

Just listening to those tracks, I'd almost forgotten they were that good.

I managed to hold off today. I currently have the ongoing capture of all Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Twighlight Princess, Skyward Sword and Majoras Mask to be getting on with for now!

Oh and to hype the new 3DS Zelda....

That's a tasty schedule, to be fair. Vita'll always be there later, and Sony are always giving away *fantastic* games if you're on the PS+. I know it's not "free", but for 50 a year, how many hundreds of bucks worth of games, it may as well be.

Rainbow Moon Coming to Vita December 3rd
30 new features will be in the Vita version.

The PlayStation Vita port of the PSN-exclusive strategy RPG Rainbow Moon will hit the PlayStation Store December 3rd (US), developer SideQuest Studios has announced in a PlayStation blog.

CEO of SideQuest Marcus Pukropski has elaborated on some of the work he and has team have been doing since the announcement of the port was made in September.

"Something that was really important to us from the beginning was using our own engine to ensure a solid 60 FPS, and a robust game with little to no loading times," explained Pukropski in the blog. "After months of hard work, we’re happy to announce that Rainbow Moon Vita is coming to PlayStation Store on December 3rd!

According to Pukropski, 30 new features, improvements and bug fixes have been implemented into the Vita version, including cross save across PS3 and the Vita. This also applies to existing Rainbow Moon saves, you don’t have to worry about losing any progress.

"Additionally, XP counters in the victory screen can now be skipped, items can be used directly from the quest vendor, and left-stick control has been improved, reducing the chance of walking in unintended directions while in battle mode."

For those unfamiliar with Rainbow Moon, SideQuest has put together a debut trailer for the port which will serve as an introduction - check it out below.

Looks fun, anybody played it yet?
70 metacritic score, 6.8 from users. Improvements/features added to the Vita version though, and you'd imagine the Vita is a better home for a game like this anyway.

For all who haven't played it yet or would like to play again - both Resident Evils for 3DS are now on sale in the eShop, Revelations for £14.99 and Mercenaries for £5.69. Be sure to have at least a 4GB memory card though as Revelations take up a decent amount of space.

Finally got started on Fire Emblem after putting it off for a while as I played other games. Fantastic game.

Yeah it's awesome, need to get back on it after this Pokemon distraction. Sign of a great game when there isn't loads of action but the story and gameplay is still that engrossing.

MMO, isn't it?

Yeah.. I'd import it but I'm worried about connection on the servers, and would probably have to use a VPN to get online (not a big deal but still annoying).

Wow, I didn't realise Azran Legacy was the last installment in Layton series. I need to compete Miracle Mask before I get down to it mind.

My Zelda order is done and paid for. Two weeks before I have it delivered.

Yeah they're going in a new, weird direction with the next game - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-27-layton-7-will-be-an-rpg-puzzle-game

I think I'll just stick to the classic games and get the ones I've missed.
That sounds awful, but this note at the end of the article....
Comparatively, Level-5's Studio Ghibli RPG collaboration Ni No Kuni has sold 1.4 million across the globe between the PS3 game and its Japan-only DS version.
Damn, that should have been released worldwide, and it's not like they didn't already have it translated....

Yeah, but IIRC the problem was that the magic book that it came with needed to be used with the game, and because of that it was too much trouble to translate.
