Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Picked up my Argos order this morning. Just to let you folks know that you also get a £10 gift voucher with the deal. I used it towards Littlebigplanet, meaning I got the game for £5.

Awesome, so you have Virtua Tennis, Killzone and Little Big Planet? Nice collection, I'd recommend getting Sonic Transformed next - although I think I remember you said you weren't huge on racing games.

Btw, Sarni, you have Sonic Transformed right? fancy a race soon?

I don't mind racing games, and I imagine its similar to Mario Kart which is obviously an exception anyway, but I'll be holding off on buying any games any time soon, especially with Uncharted downloaded.

After playing with the Vita all morning, I really do like it. Graphically far more impressive than I thought it would be.

Got my PS+ subscription up and running as well.

Didn't realise how good PS+ was until I got the vita - the games this month alone make the annual subscription worth it.

What are the games for this month on Vita? The month coming or the current?

I guess it just depends on how much you like to store games forever - I've had the Vita a couple of weeks now and got a 32gb card which will keep me going for ages. Can obviously see a time when it fills up but you can always re-download the games.

Or you can back them up to your PC. ;)

Still a pain in the arse though.

Yeah, that's what I do over the content manager.

I was aware that Jak & Daxter was on PS Plus but completely forgot - awesome surprise but another 3mb I need to find from somewhere. :(

Btw, there is a motorbike game on the store similar to Trials - I imagine it's been talked about in the thread before, but for anybody who doesn't know, it's pretty awesome (if you like Trials)

Did anybody ever get Sly Cooper for the Vita?

My wifi keeps dropping out when playing a game. I'm trying to download while its doing it so its a bit annoying. This isn't normal, right? I'm not playing the game online, either.

It shouldn't drop out. However certain games disable it! I think that Uncharted is one of them.

It was Virtua Tennis i was playing, and Uncharted I was downloading. it would drop out every now and again, but I've exited the game it's running fine.

it's odd, but my iPad has always acted in a similar way, so it could well be an issue with my router.

I don't know other than when you start certain VITA games it gives you a notice in the top left corner that it's shutting off the WiFi.

My son likes to play it, it's called Urban Trial Freestyle.

I've got 620MB left, so I can't even put Katamari on without messing. Need a 64GB card.

Yes, that.. it's awesome. I think so anyway, great for short journeys n shiz.

How does Jak & Daxter trilogy hold up peeps?

So how do they emulate L3 and R3 for remote play?

Back touch pad. If you hold down the vita ps button (I think) itll come up with options to remap the controls tho. Where possible I avoided using the touch panel or made it so the top right and bottom right (sane for left) would act as the same and both be capable of emulating R2L2 (or whatever)

If you have any issues with games operating randomly, probably means the back touch panel is assigned to buttons. On Crash Team Racing it kept showing me the reverse camera angle because my hands were on the touch panel. At first I thought it was just a shoddy port.

Maybe you wouldnt be so retarded as me not to realise though

I'm downloading all the free stuff while I can at the moment so I'm not actually playing anything properly. I did take the chance to play Street Fighter X Tekken though as little effort is required. Is it me, or is this game absolutely perfect for this system?

I'd highly recommend Wipeout 2048 as well. I don't really have that much interest in racing games but my God that game is good on the Vita. Looks amazing as well.

Battery life on the Vita isn't great, is it? I'm getting next to nothing. Literally about two hours.

Out of interest though, I fixed my issue with the Wifi dropping out. As mentioned, it happens on my iPad so assumed it was a router issue. Did some research and set my router channel from auto to 1. I think every man and his dog has a Sky router round which is where the issue may have been coming from.

A tip, as long as the free stuff goes through the checkout, you don't actually have to download it right there and then, only when you want it. Secondly, why don't you download stuff when you go to bed? You can also download the VITA games onto the PS3 and then transfer them using your cable.

Actually I don't. What's the price and is it worth getting?

How does Jak & Daxter trilogy hold up peeps?
It's taken straight from PS2 with no upscaling or anything, it even has the option to turn vibration on and off in the menus even though Vita doesn't have it. It still holds up pretty well though and is fun, just a shame that they didn't care to improve it.

It's the best kart racing game I've played since Crash Team Racing and the old Mario Karts. I'd say it's even better than Mario Kart 7 (though I doubt most would). My judgement is probably a little clouded by playing it mostly on the 360 version though. However, the Vita version is the same but the analogue sticks are more awkward so your control isn't quite as precise, and obviously the graphics aren't quite as good - oh and it doesn't offer local multiplayer.

Seriously a great arcade racer though - the graphics are stunning, it's original enough (tracks 'transform' and so does your kart, into a jet or boat) and has a great career mode with different game modes (traffic races, boost races etc.) and is far more difficult than other kart racers - especially online.

Not sure on the price anymore, I got it on offer about 15£ 6 months ago though.

Gameplay below was played on a Vita!

Any idea how to map the controls on Jak 2 so that the camera doesnt pan around and zoom by using the rear touch panel? On ps1/psp games you can hold down on the touch screen to map your controls but I can't figure out how to do it on this since it's a retail port.

What games would you guys recommend from the PS1/PSP library?

I tried Ridge Racer (PSP) - I loved it at the time, but it seemed terribly outdated, far more than I expected on the Vita. I couldn't enjoy it. Maybe I would have been better getting Burnout?

Spyro 1 and Year of the Dragon I got, played them for a few hours each and had some good fun.

Recompleted Crash 1, Cortex strikes back, Warped and Crash Team Racing (well, completed the races!).

Final Fantasy 7 was the only one I really felt like replaying, was awesome, but I'm not feeling another in the series right now.

So, recommendations people?

Driver, Tony Hawk's 2, Hogs of War, Rayman.

Oooo, I'm sure I checked out Tony Hawks a while back and they weren't there.

Completed the HD remake of the original Tony Hawks on the 360 a while back, had lots of fun. Will definitely check for 2.

Driver is an interesting one - no idea how it holds up these days, I have the latest one which is good although a lot different.

Rayman would be dangerous - I'd be too tempted to go and buy Legends, which I was saving for if(when) I get a Wii U.

Can you download Wipeout 2097?

Motorstorm Arctic Edge is great, if you like the console Motorstorms.

I'll check out Motorstorm - this is a proper one I take it, not like the RC version on the Vita (even though that's good fun).

Wipeout I'll miss, as awesome as it is, I still haven't completed the Vita one.
Cheers.

I'm fairly certain THPS2 isn't on the Vita. Otherwise i'd be playing it right now and jizz would be exploding from my bellend.

I've done quite a few complete playthroughs of Driver in the last 3-4 years, and while obviously it's quite aged I still find it a lot of fun.

Yup, a proper one, and unique to the consoles in location, and some vehicles, IIRC.

That was more of a best of than a remake, if I'm thinking of the same TH game, some of the levels were from 2, the school for one.
