Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Apart from Killzone and perhaps Tearaway (jury's still out) there's literally nothing coming out.

Again, nonsense.

And I don't particularly want to play the stuff on the 3DS thanks. I certainly don't want to go anywhere near Pokemon.

Why do I not want to play Pokemon? Because IMO it's shit! See, it's all about opinions. If you want to play that shit and pay full price for it, good for you.

How is that nonsense?

Aside from indie stuff the only 2 highly acclaimed games for Vita this year are Killzone and Soul Sacrifice (perhaps Rayman Legends too). You can't really argue with that no matter how much you love Sony.

It's all fair saying you don't like Pokemon, a lot of people do though and their opinion isn't really worth less than yours. You might not be interested in all the stuff Nintendo has coming out for 3DS but truth is everyone who purchased the system expected this sort of games to be released for it and they're getting what they wanted, in dozens too.

I got Vita because I thought it'd replace PS3 on long trips. To an extent it does its job but there are too few games coming out, this year there has been basically no games with a story line (unless you count Killzone which is multiplayer focused to be fair). It's a disappointment.

It's nonsense because there are a lot of games coming out for the VITA, but probably not the games that you like. See, you and other can't help yourselves using hyperbolic statements that unfortunately lie on your own subjectivity.

What retail games are you talking about in particular? Batman and Tearaway are the only two games yet to be released in Europe this year from what I gather.

As I said, indie stuff belongs to another discussion IMO.

Only messing. Looked it up and it does sound a harder game than most RPGs. My thinking was that FF7 was out when I was 7 and that there were a lot people at that age playing it and coping with the materia system, but the gameplay itself of SMT actually sounds really challenging.

It's all getting very tempting. I don't know how much longer I can put off getting a 3DS...

Does it? Is that why Minecraft became a retail game on the 360? What is it? And what the feck does retail have to do with anything? WipEout HD is one of the better games of the XB360/PS3 generation. because it wasn't a retail game makes it less does it? Or the fact that it was developed by a Sony studio makes it more relevant? Don't talk shite!

I didn't say their opinion was less, but then I'm not the person using hyperbole such as "The 3DS library shits all over the VITA". Got it now?
It might not be for everyone as Nintendo games are quite specific but clearly you can see how someone who has purchased 3DS expecting to play exactly this sort of games can be more happy with their console than someone who bought Vita expecting it to replace PS3 to an extent?

Link up with PS4 could be a game changer for Vita mind.

I'm not the one with hyperbolic statements, I'm just pointing them out.

Who on earth would be buying a Vita expecting it to replace their PS3? If anything the disappointment is that you can't play all of your PS3 games via remote play. That looks to be changing with the PS4 and no doubt when people start buying Vita's to go with their PS4's, more devs will be looking to make games for the increasing install base.

I'm also imagining the level of Sony propaganda Weaste's poor kids are being subjected to

I guess they wouldn't want to take away from console sales, but the technology is there for Sony to simply stream PS4 games straight to the Vita simply from their own servers.

I wonder if this is a plan for the Vita, or would Sony feel that people would be less likely to then buy a PS4?

A PS4 on the go, with no need for a PS4 would [surely] make the Vita the most wanted handheld out there.

Well to use the Vita remote play, you need to be on the same Wifi network as the PS4, so I'm not sure how they could allow you to remote play anywhere you like, without even owning a PS4.

Nope. You can be connected to a different wifi network at a seperate location.

I did, I thought Vita would basically be a small PS3 with fewer games and at the beginning it looked like they were doing a fine job with that - FIFA, Wipeout and Uncharted all resembled their big consoles counterparts, then Assassins Creed and NFS Most Wanted did a great job too. It's only this year that they've dropped the pace, as I've said it's basically only Killzone that has pulled my attention. There are very few games with an actual story line being released and developers often decide to neglect Vita which is a shame because it has great potential.

I think it could be a late bloomer though. With PS4 looming round the corner its sales could go up significantly, especially if they decide to put it in some cool bundles and with more Vitas around devs will turn their attention to it once more. I won't be surprised if it's not until 2015 that we see top quality games in large numbers, Vita is easily powerful enough to last another 5-7 years so there's still time.

I think we'll see significant movement in terms of development and releases for Vita by this time next year.

It's a reverse situation as compared to 3DS so far. Vita had plenty of good games at launch and was then supplied with a few more before the end of year while 3DS had virtually nothing of note for the first 6 months. Then in its second year Vita has basically got nothing significant while 3DS got going and received large amount of great games. Future looks bright in terms of 3DS releases as Nintendo have already said that they are going to keep the current pace, now it's time for Sony to pull their heads out and catch up.

Remote play will be huge. I doubt I'm the only one splashing out on a Vita just for remote play. I do wonder why they aren't pushing remote play more though. Maybe it just doesn't work that well? I hope this isn't the case.

To the detriment of the Wii U?

Sony are not going to put any of their larger more prestigious studios onto VITA, it's not going to happen. All of them have washed their hands of the PS3 at this point, and that now has a userbase of around 80m. All hands are on the PS4 deck.

Wii U will be dead in a couple of years, it has no future IMO unless Nintendo provide it with first party titles in similar numbers to 3DS - which isn't going to happen anytime soon IMO.

Nintendo should just stick to the handheld market. I'm pretty sure that a scenario in which they start producing Mario and Zelda titles for Sony or Microsoft consoles doesn't bear a slightest probability but it'd probably be wise for them to do something like that if Wii U maintains its current pace.

The only big Sony studio that is working towards a VITA title is Polyphony Digital. GT on PSP has done 4.25 million copies, so it makes sense, and it wouldn't take a lot of work from them to put GT5 onto VITA.

I saw that deal earlier. Such a bargain.

The Vita I purchased on eBay still hasn't been dispatched. If it hasn't by tomorrow I will try and arrange a cancellation.

Nintendo aren't struggling at all though. The WiiU failure makes people think they will be struggling but they are still turning out huge profits. They won't give anything to Sony or Microsoft any time soon.

Hope things do turn around with the Wii U. It'd be a dark and shitty day for gaming if Nintendo were to exit the console market. :(

The Wii U would probably sell shit loads if it was 100£ cheaper.

No, it wouldn't. It would be roughly the same price as PS3 and 360 then and both are better systems with far more extensive libraries. It'd be more attractive and they wouldn't be looking at 160k sold systems quarterly but they wouldn't be selling millions upon millions either.

Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros are coming out dude, don't understimate them. A new Mario Bros 3d, Sonic 3d, Donkey Kong and in the future a new Zelda - those titles on a 150£ console? It'd sell - enough, atleast.

Surely it's just a waiting game? In 5 or so years time, all they'll have to do is release hardware capable of streaming content with a decent controller and you'll be able to get good quality games over your internet connection. The hardware would be cheap, it'd just be a case of servers.
