Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

I don't know what the game situation used to be like on the Vita, but I got one on decent deal a couple of weeks ago, and I've just had to buy a 32gb card to save all the games. There seems to be quite a lot of decent games. When the PS4 and remote play comes out as well it'll only get better.

I've not tried a 3ds to compare the games, but I've never really been a fan of Nintendo and wouldn't play a Pokemon game.

What? How can you not be a fan of Nintendo and totally rule out a pokemon game?

How can you rule out any game without playing?

Oh I see...

No they are not! It's nonsense statement; total rubbish!

No it's not, and you know it.

Sony don't know how to do handhelds, they (like the main consoles) have thrown power at it at a great cost not getting what makes the handheld market.

This is the trick, if you cancel, you can't play the games that came for free. Matters not anyway, if you want to play online with the PS4 you need PS+ anyway.

Shock horror.

Sneaky, but entirely fair I suppose.

How is it entirely fair? A lot of people are suckered in for the free games.

Oh I see...

I played the first pokemon when it first came out when I was 12. Even then I felt I was too old to be playing it and I'm almost 100% sure that I don't need to try one now to know that I don'y like that style of game.

Anyway my point was that I don't know how good the 3ds is, but that I do know that there are a lot of good games on the Vita.

I get the feeling the next 1-2 pages are going to be fun

There's a battle coming....

 Ironic somehow. I'll let you work it out.
It's ironic that I don't need to play a Pokemon game to know that I wouldn't enjoy a game where I have to run around and catch a team of cartoon monsters? I'm old enough now to know what kind of games I like to play, as I'm sure you all are as we'll. I don't see where the problem with that is?

I like kill zone, uncharted and virtua tennis at the moment on the vita. Can I play them on the 3ds? So yeah, I guess the console is important for what type of game you like to play. In the same vein many people will buy a 3ds specifically to play games like Zelda and Pokemon that you can't get on the vita.

Like I have already said, I don't care what consoles people get, but there are enough good games on the vita for me to play.

Drainy you shouldn't have deleted that, it was noticed!

You clearly think it's too childish, like when you were 12. You were too old to be playing it.

Zelda must be too, or anything with "cartoonish" graphics

No, that's specific games, not type. But I'm being picky there

That's obviously fair enough. But don't look down on games as too childish that you aren't prepared to give time to. Pokemon is far more complex than Killzone and especially than Virtua Tennis!

I didn't really mean to say that Pokemon is childish. I was replying to your point that I can't say I don't like a game that I haven't played, when I evidently can because I know it's not a type of game that I would like to play.

Yes, you are definitely being too picky about the type of game comment as it's pretty evident what I meant. And I also stand by that point, that it's pointless saying one console has better games than another one, when it surely just comes down to what games you want to play on it? The difference in games between say the xbox and ps3 is probably not going to be a deciding factor in a purchase, whereas it probably is for the 3ds and vita.

Anyway, like I said in my last post I genuinely don't care what games or consoles people play. I was just pointing out that there are plenty of games on the Vita that are very good. I think we should just move on, because I need to get back to playing the walking dead!

Well next time, leave your judgements at the door! Because Pokemon is more in depth than anything you mentioned ;)

But yeah play the walking dead. I'm currently trying it again too, now that is a simplistic game!

Oh and you still get a stern look for the Nintendo comment, what's that about? How can anyone who likes games not really like Nintendo? Are you yet another Weaste account?

Ha no. I only really post in the ticket thread, so don't know what other peoples preferences for things in the entertainment forum are. Definitely not a fanboy of any brand in particular. I like the original game boy and the SNES, (but preferred the Megadrive!) but always went playstation and xbox since then.

On a different note, I'm not sure if the level of game complexity is a gauge of how childish a game is, but that's a debate for a different thread.

I wasn't saying it was. However, you mentioned age twice plus 'cartoon monsters', so it was reasonable enough to think that's what you meant no? And as such, it's also reasonable to point out that neither Killzone nor Virtua Tennis has anywhere near the depth of Pokemon, no?

So in short, chill out grandad and enjoy some actual games that aren't simplistic cookie-cutters! Just because they have 'cartoon' graphics, it doesn't mean they aren't complex or fun. You never know, you might realise that 12 year old boy should have let his hair down once in a while.

;)

I didn't say they weren't complex or fun, just that I don't personally like playing them. I'm also pretty sure you were using complexity as a gauge of childishness, and in the same way a game that isn't that complex can still be fun. The second time I mentioned age was to say that I'm old enough to know what games I like to play, when you were trying to tell me what games I should be playing.

I liked streets of rage and Aladdin. That was letting your hair down!
I really am going to move on now :-)

You are kind of ok to me now. You got lucky there...

The people who insist that the Vita doesn't have many good games are misinformed. I'm actually considering getting a 2DS (:nervous:) or waiting for the 3DS XL prices to start coming down again because I really want to play the new Pokemon game. Other than that, though, there are very few games on the 3DS which appeal to me so it's hard to justify the purchase at the moment.

Bollocks, once you start discovering all the great 3DS games there'll be no end of it. I said Fire Emblem didn't appeal to me much and then ended up spending the whole weekend playing it, Nintendo has a tremendous line-up for this console.

It's such a shame and the reason it's the only console ever to be within my reach and I've never bothered to buy. Even to me, the Vita just isn't worth my time, which isn't a great advert I can tell you!

That being said, no doubt I will own one at some point. But going by the PSP (the only console I've ever actually sold), I don't think it'll be any time soon.

I've bought it because I travel a lot being in a long-distance relationship and holding a job that had required me to go out of the city or country on a regular basis, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I'm happy with it but wouldn't go as far as calling it a great system.

I dunno, I think the Vita's a pretty special system. I actually have quite a lot more games for it than my 3DS.

I'd say it's very fair to say while it has many good, and a few great games, it has no absolute knockout, system sellers. Which the 3DS has in abundance, Fire Emblem and Pokemon being prime examples. Killzone's quite close, but I don't really think many want a handheld for FPS.

Has anyone got Walking Dead for Vita? It looks like the sort of game I'd enjoy a lot and it's not really that expensive at €19.99 so I might grab a digital copy soon. The only issue I have with a purchase right now is that with Halloween season coming up they might slash the price by half so I don't want to be paying more than I have to.

I got it a few days and it's really good. Just finished the first episode and quite enjoying the story. Already looking forward to playing it through a second time to see what effect changing the decisions I've made have.

How much actual gameplay is there? I mean, do you get to shoot or walk or is it just point and click type of game?

No shooting, except clicking on zombies heads to shoot. You walk around a bit but that's just to get to where you need to be to click on stuff.

If you like full on action I'm not sure it's what you're after. It's a good story and you have to make a lot of decisions to get to certain points.

A bit like Heavy Rain then? Mostly story based with a few decisions that could alter the way it's panning out. It sounds like something I'd enjoy a lot actually.

Not played Heavy Rain so not sure, but you summed it up in the second sentence. Some decisions are quite big, hence why I'm looking forward to going through it the second time already!

I said there aren't many games which appeal to me on the 3DS, not that it doesn't have lots of very good/popular games. I'm not saying the Vita has more good games, just more that are my cup of tea. I've never been much of a Nintendo gamer so the likes of Mario, Zelda etc. are lost on me but I would love to play the new Pokemon, Fire Emblem and probably a couple of others.

Also, for anyone interested, Argos are selling the 3G Vita, Killzone Mercenary, Virtua Tennis 4 and an 8GB memory card for £139.99 from tomorrow (16th) until the 22nd. Absolutely fantastic deal.

FFS as if it's been hard enough to not buy one! I can't buy an XL and Vita within the space of a week!

Well now I look like a mug after splashing out yesterday.

So this Vita I ordered on eBay. Can I cancel despite the item being paid for? It hasn't been sent yet. The only consequence would be negative feedback, right?

He can't leave you negative feedback if you are the buyer. Looking at the link you showed yesterday though, you won't be able to return it unless the item is significantly different from what was described i.e not new like it says, then you can start a claim on Paypal.
