Nigel De Jong

People saying they hate fellaini. Then they want to sign de Jong! he is 50% worse. Yes he can pass but no thank you.

I personally prefer not signing de Jong. He's first an ex-city player, and secondly, but way more important, he's too liable to get carded in big occasions. Even under The Great van Gaal I doubt he can keep his dirty play off the field.

But if its a choice between Vidal or de Jong, and Vidal has some knee-issues, i'd rather we signed neither, put Fletcher or Fellaini in the ball-buster-role, and waited for someone younger and less injury-prone or card-liable to come along.

i understand your reason, but fellani cant pass. I watched in the world cup to give him a chance and he was terrible. He is so slow on the ball.

For sure he is, but I want to see us aiming higher. Why shouldn't we, Woodward reckons money is no issue.

Thats a fair point - and I'm sure we are, but we need. Couple in midfield for me as I think a number are likely to be moved on.

As I've said, if Van Gall thinks this is worthwhile, I'm happy with that.

We are not lacking numbers in midfield we are lacking quality. De Jong would not bring the quality we need in midfield.

My City mate said that he was annoyed they let DeJong go and would be even more annoyed should we signed him. Says he isn't a thug so much but just quietly destroys moves and gets on with the job.

Youre being harsh, hes a a better dm than any\one we have so he would add and bring extra quality.

New system plan a,which personally i think is a smokescreen for a shift

i agree. this guy gets stuck in

As I've said - I think he is better than a lot if what we have. That's an improvement, so I have no issue with it. It's low risk and won't stop us getting other players in.

If the manager brings him in then he obviously thinks he's got something to offer as well - and given that he's worked with him and made him a key part of his national team I'm happy that he k owns what he's doing.

My pal said pretty much the same thing. He reckons the fans liked him and were sad to see him go.

He had him as an underrated player there and moaned when they let him go.

Had a quiet night at work so I just randomally had a look at our archive (Haaretz newspaper in Israel). By pure luck I found a 2005 article on a young De Jong at Ajax, and it claimed United were interested and that the Express said we were going to sign him.

I like that team. Maybe have a good covering CB on the bench as well (blind/vermalen)

How about we start looking at the player rather than the price tag?

You want impressive price tags? PSG bought Luiz for 50m and Liverpool bought Carroll for 35m.
He is not a very good player either though.

He'd bring some steel to our midfield, he is experienced, he knows the manager, he knows the league, he is a leader, he is a true warrior on the pitch and he is extremley consistent as a player. He is obviously no Vidal in terms of football talent but tactically he does about everything right and he has never been found out at any team he has played in. He'd be great to partner Herrera, you leave the creativity to Ander and Mata and he'll deal with the rest.

He's could be a decent addition to the squad. I'd rather see Fletcher starting games than him though.

I can see this happening in the next 2 weeks, the injury to Carrick and lack of progress on any deal for Vidal, Strootman or Carvalho makes me suspect we'll move for De Jong. Not a glamorous signing by any means but he gets in opponents faces and makes life difficult for them. We need that type of aggressive player as we've always had success with players like Vidic, Keane, Wes etc.

Agree with this.

I don't Fletcher is so passed it, he may have deceived some of you on tour but I fully expect we are not going to see that same Fletcher in league games and certainly not a consistent reliable basis. I remember his first games he came back from that injurry he looked so good, better than anything we had on the midfield at that time, but then he plunged in form almost deeper than anyone else. He can be a decent cover but in my book he ain't no midfield starter for us.

surely not a city reject! De Jong can play, but he chooses to be a thug most of the time. Can't believe he is an option.

JESUS CHRIST how anyone can think this is a good signing is beyond me. First off I don't care if he's Lionel Messi himself I don't want any motherfecking ex City player at our club.

1. city offloaded him on a cut price deal to AC Milan because he was off the pace of the premier league. He would instantly be third best to ANY of our midfield players. He severely lacks any ball control or quickness of mind to compete at the top level.

"oh what about him In the Holland squad" WHAT?! you mean the same Holland squad that eventually dropped him for Calsie, Wilderhein and Blind for the higher energy teams such as Argentina.

2. he can't break into the Milan squad In a league severely slower than our own.

I'm severely worried that us signing him would mean the death of the Vidal deal and if that's the case I will be royally pissed off, even a crocked Vidal is better than this idiot. Sadly it's probably the most realistic deal we've had all summer and I see it happening. I'd be disgusted to see him in a United shirt and I think it would damage our reputation.

Imagine all the City fans larking about how he used to play for them and was too shit and all we can sign are crocked useless players they used to have. Embarrassing.

Cringed so hard I think I might have fractured my eye sockets.

I found it weird when City shipped him out. We don't have a proper defensive midfielder, De Jong is a good one, and he is also capable of playing football. For £8m he would be a good addition.

I think our midfield would be pretty much sorted for now. Not the best players, definitely not the flashiest names in the world, but probably enough quality to go along with our newfound tactical brilliance, and the world class attacking quality we have in our team.

Not saying this is happening, though. Just that I wouldn't mind.

He is not a very good player either though.

That is a completely valid opinion. I think he would improve us in a very specific way and a very specific system. It's up to LvG to decide if that is worth buying him.

Why should the club let potential taunts from rival fans dictate who they buy?

I'm sure Bayern and their fans are ever so embarrassed with their reputation since signing 'City reject' Boeteng...

Opposition fans can always find something to cling onto:
If we sell Rooney, We're a club that sells our best players; if we keep him - he's rubbish.
Van Persie was ageing and destined to get injured the second we signed him.

The club should focus on securing whoever the heck they want. Rival fans are irrelevant. No wonder some care about fees so much. It's basically because they're worried they'll get the puss taken out of them if the player flops.

And he's a better midfielder than Fellaini, as he at least has a rough idea where to position himself.

I'm not being confrontational and just arguing for the sake of it but I honestly think Fallana is better suited to the premier league and I think he is terrible for United.

Seriously everyone is thinking De Jong would be great off the back of a fairly average to poor world cup from him. If we are looking for midfielders we should be ones that can impact a game not simply sit in the middle and "do a job".

What happened to LVG and his words saying the players will buy will be for the future of the club? Is our new manager That short sighted that the only player in world football he can think of to do that role is De Jong. FFS he doesn't even start for AC Milan regularly.

He'd play one game against Swansea, be pressed to shit and taken off because he either fouls too many times or is found pissing about in midfield.

I'm waiting with baited breath for this to go through and our "strengthening" to be complete. Seriously pissed off if this goes through its very different taking Arsenals best player or Chelseas best player than taking a City cast off who has shown literally no improvement over the couple of years he's been away. Very very disappointed if it went through and I'd definitely sigh to see him on the teamsheet.

this is not how I imagined us going forward at all.

Fallana.

.

People on here used to call De Jong a thug, a useless midfield bruiser etc etc...

We do not need players who are just good at breaking up play and nothing else. We need more all round players like Herrera. Somebody who yes can tackle and position well, but also carries a good pass and a goal scoring threat.

De Jong may be cheap, but that's because he's old and doesn't offer much apart from the odd kung fu kick.

Will personally be very disappointing if this is our midfield option we want, but then I suppose LVG know's what he is doing.
