De Jong would be a fantastic short to medium term fix.
This.

I don't think it's beyond possibility that we'd bring in another midfielder even if we signed De Jong, particularly given Carrick's injury.
For example, Herrera, De Jong + 1 more to replace Giggs, Anderson + 1 more, means we'd just be operating with the same midfield numbers as last season and can use Jones in his proper defensive role.
Van Gaal did seem concerned by the absence of Carrick. It wouldn't surprise me if he now does turn to De Jong.
City cast-offs now, jeez.
There's a City cast off playing for Bayern and he's doing alright.City cast-offs now, jeez.
He was an unsung hero at City from what I remember. People may not like it but a player like this is essential, someone to do the footwork while our more creative players have freedom.City cast-offs now, jeez.
What about him and Vidal? No thanks.
Its Vidal or nothing!!!!!
Would be delighted with de Jong and Vermaelen as the last two signings of the window.
Think it was a joke...
Anyway, I'd be delighted to sign him.
So most people would be at least content with him.. I wonder if we're actually close to signing him.
Ah I thought it was the Spanish one. That's a shame. There is no solid source, unfortunately. Only an osbcure journal called Sport (not the spanish one)
Really? Fellaini isn't even a central midfielder in my mind.Wouldn't want him here, regardless of our options here. He ain't all that, I would stick with Fellaini over this guy.

If nothing else it'd be the end of Jones in midfield for once and for all.
I don't know if it's true, but this article says it is the Spanish one.

A player City should have kept as they never adequately replaced. As far as I know, City fans didn't want him to go and he left for more game-time. 'Cast off' isn't really apt.
He's not a bad player. He can be very effective when played in an advanced position but there's no place for him in our squad. He suits a team that play unattractive football where he can be a nuisance in and around the box. He actually tore us apart one year in that position when Everton won 1-0. But when it comes to breaking up play and passing from deeper positions, he's almost useless. Poor passing range, no mobility, ends up chasing shadows.I dont know, he did ok for a bit, like v Palace, Fulham etc... I would still stick with him, he isn't as bad as he's made out to be.
He was very good at City. They missed him in the 2012/13 season. Speak to City fans, they knew how valuable he was to them. Not sure why people are so eager to sign him, don't remember him being that "great" for Man City..How is he getting on at Ac Milan?
Seriously Kevin? Vermaelen is a complete crock and is arsenal's 3rd choice centre half.
That really is way below the quality we need to get this squad back to where it should be.
Fair enough, did not particularly impress me but that's just my opinion. He had a good world cup though, I'll admit that much. He's not our midfield Messiah though, still expect us to sign somebody like Strootman as well.He was very good at City. They missed him in the 2012/13 season.
