Nigel De Jong

Did I really just read that Jones does just a good a job as De Jong in midfield? This place never ceases to amaze me. He is criminally underrated on here. He's a good player and for the prices quoted, he would be a good signing for us.

He's a very good player, and better than anyone we have at the role he plays. I'd rather Vidal, obviously, but if he isn't possible De Jong would be a decent option, at the right price.

I wouldn't be against signing both

I just saw Newcastle had signed De Jong. But then I saw it was a different De Jong.

It was a moment that registered as about a 2 on the emotional richter scale, and it was over in about 2 seconds.

Not sure why I even bothered to post about it to be honest.

Wouldn't mind de Jong. I can't remember the last purely defensive midfielder to play for us.

Although someone a tad more gifted would be preferable, I think it's a good option to have for some games.

He'd be a good signing now that Carrick is out long-term. Would hope for one more though.

Sport is a Spanish paper, who are unreliable, how would they know? I don't believe it.

Could be a nonsense rumour but I'd take De Jong. I'd like another midfielder as well during this window, but think he could give us a very useful option for that price and van Gaal would know exactly what he's getting and how to utilise him.

We're too easy to play against in midfield. He'd go some way to rectifying that.

It would be such an underwhelming signing after all the romours about Di Maria, Vidal etc. He is a good player, mind, and would be a solid addition to our weak midfield.

Sign de Jong, get rid of Anderson and Fellaini. Squad would be stronger and we'd probably make a net profit on the three deals.

Especially since Carricks injured this would be a great signing.

De Jong might be a stop gap til Strootman in January. But, I hope we don't end up with De Jong and Vermaelen, instead of Vidal and Hummels

We could really do with signing two more CMs. If LvG feels the same then De Jong would be a good addition as one of those two. On his own though? Not near enough.

I would be really happy if we sign De Jong, i want vidal for muppetry reasons but De Jong would be the perfect player for a team who has Mata and Herrera in Midfield.

Good player, would definitely improve your midfield.

He's the anti-muppets dream though and merely a decent to good signing.

For £8m or so, which these days seems small change, it probably wouldn't be a bad signing.

Would certainly let some of the flair players do their thing.

Imagine the damage Fellaini and De Jong could do to teams. Stoke would be scared of us for a change.

Yeah good point. We have plenty of finesse but could do with a midfielder who isn't afraid to kick opponents in the chest like a Mortal Kombat character.

Wouldnt mind him. He's crazy and a true dmf and we could do with those. In any case other teams would just run over our midfield like it doesnt exist.
But he wouldnt suit well with all those wantint a 'marquee signing'.

Would be decent for depth in midfield, £8m seems a few million too much but meh. His perceived merit as a signing would also seem to swing wildly depending on whether we bring another top class player in.

de jong would be a good signing albeit temporary. id say strootman is on the radar. Still though, no messing with de jong

I'd be happy with him as a replacement for Fellaini/Anderson, not as our only remaining midfield signing.

A great signing with another midfielder.

A decent signing on his own.

As much as I would love Vidal etc. You have to keep in mind that we have no CL football when expecting signings from the top of the market.

I want him. I wouldn't be mad about having him in a 2 man midfield but I'm hoping we play with 3 in midfield anyway. It makes so much sense. With Strootman hopefully coming in in January and Carrick out for 3 months, we can't afford to go into next season without 1 more CM and de Jong is a good option for a decent fee. We could do with some steel in midfield even with Herrera.

Been a long time since there was a warrior in the middle of the park for us. Definitely room for him in that squad.

Everyone seems to be on the same note. De Jong would be a brilliant signing but we would still need another midfielder like Vidal or Strootman etc.

Actually, De Jong holding the midfield would go a long way towards resolving all the problems of all these players wanting to play centrally.

I don't think there'll be another midfielder if he comes in.

I don't think it's beyond possibility that we'd bring in another midfielder even if we signed De Jong, particularly given Carrick's injury.

For example, Herrera, De Jong + 1 more to replace Giggs, Anderson + 1 more, means we'd just be operating with the same midfield numbers as last season and can use Jones in his proper defensive role.

Van Gaal did seem concerned by the absence of Carrick. It wouldn't surprise me if he now does turn to De Jong.

De Jong would be a fantastic short to medium term fix.

Good squad player but there needs another central midfield signing.

Oh god yeah, one more at least IMO, i'm sure they'll retain Cleverley, but Fletch just isn't up to it anymore, Fellani is surely doomed, & with Carrick out, Anderson going, and Giggs retired, we are ridiculously short there, although I reckon LvG will find a youth prospect to beef up the numbers there as well, Rothwell, Pearson, or Lingard are my bets.

Van Gaal builds around the midfield, and we'd still be massively understrength there as a squad if we got De Jong in. Rumours have long been that we could be looking for up to two more centre mids, and Carrick's injury probably removes the "up to" from that sentence.
