Nicolas Pepe - Signs for Arsenal

This thread reminds me of the Sadio Mane thread back when he was at Soton. Pepe would obviously improve us on the right side with Wan. It would be a serious upgrade over Martial/Dan James/Rashford/Lingard on the right.

Let me get this right.... United fans moan for years about not having a RW and then we are linked with a RW and they are not happy...

Yep. The only valid reason to not sign Pepe is if we have some sort of agreement with Sancho next year.

Still not valid, we need a great squad

You're saying it doesn't matter that he's not good enough all that matters is that we're linked with a RW. Bit weird.

He would make sense, as he looks like he can play through the middle as well. Nice interchangeable front 3.

Which is fine and we don't have to comment on every players as if we knew them when we don't. Your post and the response that you gave are an example of why, you made the claim that he only had one good season and then responded that you don't follow the league, it makes no sense.

Look, it's not a big deal let's move on.

Well if those are the rules then close down the Caf as 98% of people on here won't be able to comment, personally don't want us spending that on him as I see it as a huge risk, a forum is all about opinions, which my friend, this is mine.

Think it's just the selling club trying to bring some bidding. It was Bayern's, liverpool and now us. Pretty sure we wouldn't sign him

Not buying this rumour. Price sounds way too high aswell, probably just trying to get more from other teams.
Rumoured 70mill to United, sold to some other random team for 28 mill within a week.

Pepe and Fernandes. Sounds like their respective chairman and agent are inviting overseas bidders when no one is really interested

It's not a rule. But how do you have an opinion on a player passed seasons when you haven't followed those seasons?

The nice thing about the weaknesses in our squad is that so many players count as an upgrade.

Any RW we sign just has to be better than Lingard/Mata to improve us, just as any RB we signed only had to be better than Ashley Young.

So even if we sign someone like Pepe and they turn out to be less than stellar, they still (sort of) work as signings on a really basic level as they will still likely make us a better team regardless. Which makes it hard to engage with negative opinions on signings like this.

JP - is he good enough in your opinion? It's not hard to be better than what we have on the right but how good is he?

Honestly, I don't know. He has been good in Ligue 1 and has been good against good Ligue 1 teams but I don't like the lack of european competition experience. For all I know Ligue 1 could be his ceiling.

This news is too good to be true. Would be excited if we end up signing a genuine right winger. The boy can play and reminds me a lot of young robben. Ofcourse he will not be a world beater from get go but under Ole I think he will eventually be a top player.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but genuinely believe he could be our Salah on the right and thats why Ole doesn't need Lukaku anymore. Going for a similar front three to that of Liverpool's.

Is as good on the ball as Mane? He has end product but doesn't look all that gifted technically based on the clips. If we're signing him, hope he's brilliant of course.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but i reckon he'll be the next Messi.

I would be very jealous if you get this guy, I think he would do very well in the PL 22 goals from the wing is not to be sniffed at. Always a risk from the French league but I think he has what it takes he's, fast, physical, 6ft, technically good on the ball and plays with his head up.

Point me to where I have said that.
He is clearly a better player than any RW we have by the way
He actually looks like a talented player

What is weird to me is people who seem to have an opinion on a player yet when you hear them talk about him you can see they haven't even watched more than 5 games

Here's a more complete video of Pepe than others previously posted:
Looks more like Yannick Bolasie than Mane. You'd expect a more impressive Youtube compilation from a 70 million player... Surely Dybala would be better purchase if we're looking to spend that sort of money on an attacker?

You'd be right if Pepe didn't also have an end product.

Watched some youtube videos.... swear hes Bolasie with a left peg! Identical style of dribbling
I was just about to post the same.

I really like the look of him to be honest. Looks Physically ready for the PL, quick, tricky, Plays RW, Left footed.... What's not to like?

Also, he looks to take a very good penalty which is something we have lacked for years.

So we'll have Martial, Rashford, Sanchez, Greenwood, James, Lukaku, Gomes, Mata, Jesse, Chong and Pepe for 3 attacking spots. Yeah right  that''s almost half a first team squad.

We buy any attacking players and it'll be as someone has left...

This probably doesn't happen unless Lukaku is gone, Chong and Gomes will be back off to the Academy for most of the season with only occasional appearances in the Carabao and Europa and I am fairly sure we will be burning up the phone lines to China until the last possible minute to find a way to offload Sanchez and his salary.

You'd be right if Pepe didn't also have an end product.
You're right, Pepe's finishing looks much better but dribbling/running/technique seems almost identical to Bolasie, Mane has been more skillful even in his Southampton days. Aren't half of Pepe's goals from last season penalties anyway?
Obviously he'd be huge improvement on anything we have for that position right now, but he shouldn't cost more than 40 million based on the highlights.

Right here.

You're saying we should be happy to be linked with him because he's a RW and we've needed one for years but the reason people aren't happy about it is they don't think he's good enough. You rate him, others don't. Such is life.
