Nicolas Pepe - Signs for Arsenal

Lille's president has confirmed he's moving this window. Pepe in and Lukaku out? Or is a move to Liverpool or Bayern more likely?

I've just read on sky sports transfer centre that the Lille president said "

" For Nico, it is almost done and he could have left last summer. It is true that there are big offers and big clubs in for him, so I think [he will leave] "

It could work if we are keeping Martial/Rashford as strikers. James/Pepe as wingers.

Maybe Lingard will take over from Pogba,

Martial---Rashford--Pepe
---------Lingard
-----McTominay---Fred----

Until we get some midfielders in.

Pogba is here for now so worry about that next year

Think this could have legs. makes the Bruno link BS though, we arent going to buy both for high fees and then Maguire as well.

Not sure what to think of him, i dont watch Lille games, and Youtube and Fifa arent great scouting tools.

Based on his youtube videos, I'm leaning towards agreeing with Bayern's apparent assessment of him ie he needs too much space to operate in and I'm not convinced he's got the close control and skill to navigate a packed defence like we face.

Sancho would be the ideal signing and I think Pepe is some way off his level of talent personally. If we were a counter attacking team then he might work, but teams just sit back against us and we need a 'cuter' dribbler/passer to unlock them. You can write off signing Sancho too if we go for Pepe imo.

I think thats whats Ole wants, counter attack. Would be nice to have someone that can do both, counter and unlock packed defences. Thats my biggest problem with us so far, yes pressing is nice, but we look a bit clueless and without plan once teams park the bus.

He'd like that, but opposition teams simply don't give us the option as they constantly park the bus. We drop so many points against these teams. Personally I can't look past Sancho, this summer or next.

If Pogba stays, Pepe would make more sense. If Pogba leaves, obviously Bruno. But i dont see both, we want Sancho badly is my feeling. Approximately 2 weeks to go, dont think Maguire, Pepe and Bruno will be done. Maybe 2 out of those 3.

People are crazy. Talk as if Sancho is a done deal next year! Firstly if a has another good season and thats not guaranteed then what makes anyone think he will come here? Loads of other clubs will be in for him. Secondly if he does have another good season he will cost more than 100 mil. We have been screaming out for a RW for years and as soon as we are linked with one everyone says wait. I can see why Pepe is a risk but common what options are there? If I was in dreamland then Sane or Dembele would do. But thats not happening. Sancho is not happening. The only other realistic target is Ziyech - but for some reason nobody wants him. There must be a reason for that. We are 6th place Europa league level and in desperate need of a RW for years. Still think CM and CB are priorities and Im not sure this rumour is even true but if it is just do it. Its similar situation as Maguire. Sure Koulibaly is a better defender and sure play x,y,x might be good in x years and we might be able to sign them or we might not but we have to be realistic.

Agree with this..^^

I think that there are cheaper alternatives out there, such as Lozano, but from what I've seen of Pepe he looks to be ideal, an exciting Right sided attacker, loads of pace & trickery and he knows how to find the back of the net...
Tick, Tick, Tick...!!

From the videos I have seen on Youtube, I cant believe the negativity in here. He looks good on there...

Agreed, we need a right winger. If we need to upgrade him next year because he turns out not to be top level then so be it...we can do things in the marker others can only dream of etc. Also if he works out apparently he's flexible to play in a couple of positions so it wouldn't necessarily stop us from going for Sancho...nothing wrong with having multiple good players for the same positions!

Also, think of the combo of having Pepe & Wan-Bissaka in tandem down our right hand side...and then compare that with having Young and Mata in those positions...

Said once but why whole thing around this player gives a scam vibe.

Don't do it, wait out a year for Sancho.

Feel like this guy has flaws to his game and is not worth the quoted fee.

I dont know enough of this guy but his price is extremely high and he has drawn attention from some big clubs.

I'd prefer us to get a midfielder in but beggars cant be choosers and we have been sorely lacking a RW for so long i've forgotten what one is.

A few concerns regarding this:
There are probably better options out there than Pepe
We go big on Pepe and have no £££ left for Midfield/CB, without us selling (which looks unlikely given absolutely zero interest in likes of Darmian/Jones/Rojo/Lingard/Sanchez, with only links to Lukaku which Inter cant/wont pay)

But there are positives:
He is a RW

I cant talk of what he'll bring etc as i dont know the player.

That would leave us with a starting front 3 of:
Martial/Rashford/Pepe
With support from:
James/Greenwood/Sanchez/Lukaku (as it stands)

It's not world class, but its not that bad either.

A lot of our season will depend on playing style rather than the individual, collectively with a high press style and focus on attack we should see more intent and positive play and more goals rather than the defensive mistake waiting to happen stuff under Jose so i'll take the positives.

Just like many fans, hate the waiting. Get it done!

It was reported on Sunday morning how comes its breaking now.I find something fishy with the report.

They broke out the news after the Sunday edition. Apparently, a source from the club told them that Pepe is surely leaving but the destination club is not clear yet. There are supposedly a lot of clubs interested with us joining the race with ~80mil EUR bid.

But our offer is mentioned briefly and really seems like our name is being thrown in there. Also, there was no bigger follow-up article, which surely would have followed if they had such specific information.

Don’t think we’re interested. I seriously think we are after Maguire & Longstaff and that’s it.

I think, if true, we will pay for it with the Lukaku money. Rather than another CF we go with a RWF

All other signings budgeted for imho

I’d love to see Sancho here, but there is absolutely no guarantee he’ll come to us even with CL football.

We are literally crying out for a natural right winger. Pepe may not be world class, but he would provide us with the balance we do desperately lack.

By Pepe this summer and then go all in for Sancho next summer.

If anything it’s Martial that looks the odd man out in that scenario, as a fluid, interchanging front three of Sancho, Rashford and Pepe looks pretty bloody good on paper.

Agreed. Lukaku gets pulled from our pre season games and then reports of a bid for Pepe surface. I don’t think that’s just a coincidence.

Would be a pretty good summer if we get Maguire, Pepe and Bruno in with Lukaku leaving. Hopefully Darmian and Rojo will leave too.
