Good move for him, should be able to get regular football and it will be a higher level than he's used to and definitely better than being in the reserves.

Excellent loan.

Hope he plays well and bags 5-10 goals, then next season a PL club might take him on loan.

Great news. hope he can get some serious football in a decent team.

So, Powell goes to Wigan, which frees them to sell McCarthy to Everton, which frees them to sell Fellaini to us.

The Circle of Life Football Transfers!

Apparently Paul Jewell is Wigan's manager according to our website.

"The 19-year-old will link up with Latics manager Owen Coyle,"

"Speaking about the deal, Latics boss Coyle told Wigan's official website"

Coyle did work with Wilshere when the two were in Bolton so he's not all bad.. Wigan as a whole is a good place for Powell.. A winning team in the Championship for sure, hopefully he can get his foot into the team..

hope he will return as a stronger and better player for us next season and is ready to be part of the first team squad by then.

Good idea to send him on loan if we don't intend to give him any sub appearances for the first team. Hopefully he can lock down a place in there team and gets plenty of game time.

Wigan still have quite a strong squad even without McCarthy, and Maloney is one of their best players. Could be a good thing though as it might mean Powell will be played in a proper CM role more often which would be good for his development.

I just hope they don't play him as a support striker off the bench.

I doubt he's going to walk into their first team either.....he'll have to prove himself first.

Indeed, but I think he'll get a decent shout. The step-up from League One to the EPL is a massive one, but for us to have even considered him a worthwhile purchase, let alone given him some game time last year shows the potential Fergie saw in him. Watching the vids from his time at Crewe, it's clear he has bags of talent. I'd have thought and hoped he'll impress enough in training to get plenty of games at Championship level.

Barkley came back to us from the Championship much more bulked up. The loan for him did the world of good and for Powell it could end up doing the same. Probably would go out on loan again next year to a PL side if it goes well?

Staying injury free will be the key for him. If he manages that, he'll be a big hit.

Its certainly a growing up period - a bit like Welbeck had as well. It really can be make our break for some players.

I do think though that he will excel there, its not like he's been brought up through our academy with no first team experience of the lower leagues.

If he could hack it in league 2, not look out of touch in the CL against some of the lower competition, I think he will do just fine.

Coyle will be hoof balling it in the championship. Im not sure Powell will get the same amount of touches as Wilshire got unfortunately

Coyle is not a hoofball manager and he's got the players to play good passing football, even in the Championship.

If they hoof it up and the ball bounces back to Powell he'll get on the scoresheet a fair bit. Belter indeed

not sure what type of a midfielder powell is going to be but i can see him doing what a young paul scholes or frank lampard has been doing all these years. scoring goals from the edge of the box, even though lampard has his fair share of deflected goals he scored some belter as well.

There's no denying that Powell has an absolute thundering shot on him.

Yup. We've got a winger with 6 career goals that scored a hat trick last night. Two of his goals were shots like that.

Come on though, the first one was a hit and hope but the two others, and especially the last, were absolutely amazing finishes.

It's quite possibly the best hattrick I've ever seen from a player.

He wasn't even on the bench for u21s the other night.

Don't think it's a slight on his talent, or potential.. for better for worse, the England u-21s team seems to be picked on experience and there were players with plenty of Championship and even Premiership experience ahead of him at central midfield.
