Powell had a few first team games last season where he looked impressive but he seemed to pick up a few injuries so we never got to see as much as we would have liked. I've heard that Wigan want him so that could be a good loan move.

He's got something special, anyone who's been paying attention will know that, but last season was ultimately one of disappointment, injuries and slight stagnation for him. His best games were probably for England u19s where he was head and shoulders above his team mates.

Needs a good loan this year, he'll only get a handful of games if he stays for the season so he's one to definitely go out on loan somewhere. I'm slightly edging that way with Januzaj as well if the right club can be found. We're very stacked in attack but in Powell Januzaj and Zaha we've got 3 guys who need as much time as they can get with reserves being below their level.

Powell could quite easily get the most games out of that 3 except for the fact that in the position that'd be, CM, is his least experienced one. If he was fit we could send him on loan for the first half of the season to get some more experience there and then give him 10-15 games in the second half of the season in squad rotation in a midfield 3 or 2 alongside future backup Carrick.

If we bring someone in then he should be going out on loan but if we do fail to bring a midfielder in then surely if he's as good as we're being led to believe he'll get a fair amount of games given we're light on the ground in that area.

Yep, and we don't want to fall into the trap of getting rid of too many numbers in one position. If Powell went out on loan we'd have a grand total of three players suited to the two CM positions. Two injuries and we'd be starting Jones or Giggs there as first choice...

Indeed. I see no reason why Powell shouldn't be starting 10-15 games in all comps this season with the current set of midfielders.

Agreed. There's no reason why he can't be part of the first-team setup, especially as we're light on numbers there. Also, he's done himself no harm previously when he's got time.

The problem though is that he's not very experienced playing on the middle, usually occupying a more advanced role, I reckon it's far more likely giggs or jones would come in, in a deeper position if necessary. Of course that depends on how he's looking in training and where he plays in the reserves. The bigger problem though is that until there's someone who can cover carrick as the solid player in the middle than I think it massively reduces powells chances of getting a game in the same way pogbas was. No one else can look after him in the middle, all our other midfielders need carrick as it is and I can imagine the vast majority of game we could include Powell would be in games where we'd try and rest carrick. And so as I said without someone to cover for him I think we'd opt to play more experience players, I couldn't see us going with Powell and ando/clev in the league for instance.

agreed. Carrick and somebody like Fellani would give him perfect protection. Oh but...

Powell played most of the game for the reserves today and scored with a header and did well especially considering how long hes been out

We'd start Jones and Giggs ahead of Powell even if he was here.

the thing about powell is that he looks physically ready already. unlike some talented young players, they are naturally gifted but get bullied against more experienced and psychical players. powell already looks strong and imposing for his age. i hope he is given a chance by moyes now that he is back fit.

I hope Moyes gives him a few chances once he's match fit, seeing as we're (most likely) not getting anyone in..

Good stuff. Hopefully a progressive season under Coyle like both Wilshere and Sturridge had and I reckon we could be looking to really integrate him into the first team next season.

Would have liked to see him go to a newly promoted PL club. But he needs games so this is good
