I thought he was destined to start his United journey out on loan at a Championship side but Powell has the power!

Very well taken goal, good first touch to get away. His shooting is already top notch

The guy is a sensational finisher from distance. His passing is way off though, anyone else think that he will end up as an attacker?

first premier league match, give him some time to get his passing right. it isn't easy.

Very well taken goal, but I thought his passing was somewhat off. But I think that'll come as he spends more time here. The goal should've done with any nerves he had :)

he still has a lot to learn and he have the right people around him to learn from in carrick and scholes . There is one area though he don t need any lectures in....and that's shooting from distance. He was so confident striking that ball, that he made it look too easy.

this.

Yeah he needs to get used to the kind of moment and passes expected of top professionals in the game. I'm sure some of these passes that dont have the correct weight or seem to be at the right time to release players, his former team mates probably got on the end of them because the games werent as tight and his team mates were expecting them.

At the top level he's going to learn to adjust this.

Lads, I know we normally have to pour cold water on expectations, but some of you need to get a bit more excited about this lad. He was only on the field a few minutes and we were already 3-0 up. He didn't have time to get the radar turned on, but the run and finish for that goal was something to be really optimistic over. Delighted for him!

This! It would have have been easy for him to be rash with that chance but he took it with remarkable composure. You cant buy that kind of composure and that bodes really well. He'll sort out his passing game in time.

Chuffed to bits for him.

18 years old, scoring a crackerjack on debut at home at Old Trafford. Some nice tackles and midfield positional play too. He did not look out of place. It simply cant get any better.

Good looking lad too ... in a few years time, hopefully he can marry a winner from the X-Factor and so become our new boy hero!

Erghhh. But we did

Can see likenesses to Lampard in him
If he scores half the goals Lampard has, we'll be delighted

Some nice vision for the passes, and some nice long passes, but overall his pass execution was poor. He needs to learn from Carrick and Scholes how to do the simple things well.

Very well taken goal today, nice feint and cracking strike, that should settle him in nicely and hopefully he gets another run out in the cup game.

Very high praise from Fergie
Powell continues to earn plaudits from Sir Alex after taking his impressive training-ground work onto the big stage.

"Nick Powell is going to be a really good player who, we hope, will fill Paul Scholes' boots in terms of he's got terrific vision, good temperament, two great feet, is quick and is a great striker of the ball. For a boy of 18, he's not 19 until next March, it's been a terrific day for him."

You are preaching to the converted. I said this back in the threads embryonic days:

Regardless, Powell to me, looks to have magic in them there boots and yes Pogue I have only seen one game and numerous you tube videos.

The last player that I got a similar instinctive feeling about, that I thought that he was going to be brilliant after watching just one game, was Stevan Jovetic against Liverpool.

His goal was similar to Rooney's vs Wolves last season, but Powell's was further out. Excellent goal.

New Carrick.

He scores more than Carrick, by a long way too.

He is already better than Gibson, DG has never scored goals of the quality that Powell has in his short career. Powell will also sometimes pull off a sweet bit of skill, again something that Gibo can only dream of doing. Powell also has some pace about him.

He has the potential to be as prolific as Pard from midfield, and that, for me is the closet likeness. Powell is no clone of anyone though.
