Great finish, he really is very 2 footed! Didn't even take a touch either very impressive

Thats pretty much how he has always been during his time here. He clearly lacks a solid technical foundation to his game as he seems to feck up even the simplest things and then he'll later pull off a piece of skill that makes him look like a real prospect.

I'd doubt whether we have enough time or patience to give him his game the kind of technical foundation it need to be a top level prem player, we also seem to play him out of position on the wing at every given oportunity. He's clearly a central forward/striker.

That's what I'm saying, is it possible he has improved? Heard he had an up and down game against Scunthorpe though, went from being one of the best on the pitch to one of the worst

he's still young, lets not forget that. The more he plays with that group, the more comfortable he'll be and the better he'll be. He has the potential to make it here. Is time on his side? Different question. Think he won't have improved that much, he's barely played. All he can do is think about his own game and the things he needs to improve.

Bebe didn't do too badly in the build up to that... or am I reaching?

Outside of Kagawa I think Bebe has been the star of the preseason matches so far. Take from that what you will

Great finish by Powell though. He is really does have excellent technique when it comes to striking the ball.

So, any news on him lately? Will he be making any appearances for the U21's first; or will he just train with the first team until he's ready for a cameo from the bench?

Looking foward to watching more of him regardless if it's for the first team or the U21's.
Apologies if some thought this bump was going to be more important.

Any regular reserve watchers with any updates? He's played a couple games now hasn't he?

Nothing special so far, in my opinion. Still, there's ages for him yet.

Didnt see all of the previous game but he's impressed me with his closing down and workrate in central midfield. Definitely has all the skills to play there.

Needs a bit of refinement on his more ambitious passes. Will often go for something very nice but get the power/distance wrong and have it intercepted.

So he is playing as a CM in the U21 then? Has he looked like he ready to progress beyond the u21 this season. Or looking like he will need this season to settle and work on his game more before pushing for a first team spot

Powell just scored a nice goal for England under 19s against Germany

What's his general play been like? More interested in that.

Fairly quiet Germany controlled the game. At the moment hes very good in spots when he has the ball but seems to find it hard to get involved enough in games

I watched the game. Blake once again got the tactics wrong and despite England having a number of technical players on the pitch the game plan was too direct and the English midfield couldn't get a sniff. England played like a group of individuals who lacked confidence in eachother. Being a goal down after two minutes thanks to some poor defending didn't help either.

Powell played behind the forward first half and despite his goal couldnt get in the game at all. His goal to get England back in the game however was out of nothing but classy. He charged the ball down on the half way line and carried it 30 yards into the german penalty area where he chipped the oncoming goalkeeper beautifully. Second half England were out of the game early on with more bad defending and two quick german goals. Powell then dropped deeper in midfield and Chabaloah moved back into defence to replace (someone I cant identify) who had a shocker. Powell then started to excel in terms of range of passing and interceptions. His ability was there for all to see and stood out on the pitch, even the german commentator mentioned it on the stream I was watching, but he does still need to impose himself in games more. He reminds me of Beckham in how he always tries the hollywood ball and pulls it off more often than not, however when it doesn't come off he looks stupid. He's definitely a big talent and I cant wait to see more of him for United, but he seems the sort of player who needs to feel comfortable in his surroundings to get the best out of him, as when he is trying hard to impress he does too much too often.

On another note Tyler Blackett played left back and struggled badly with his positioning and looked like he lacked the confidence in himself he usually shows for United, resulting in some timid decisions in dangerous areas. On a positive note he still showed his immense technical ability and has a rare attribute for an English defender which is his composure with the ball. Sometimes however he can be too casual. I rate Blackett highly as it seems to me his weaknesses are all in mental areas which can be improved with experience whereas his strengths are in his natural abilities.

Seventeen year old reds Barmby and Sutherland also came on for cameos marking their u19 debuts. Barmby was unlucky to have a late goal disallowed for offside in which he showed a neat piece of skill and finish.

Thanks for the update SkeppyRed

Well now I'm picturing a young Michael Carrick. Which would please me, but not everyone on here I guess.

His goal on 0:29, classy goal.

Which of the young germans should we go for before they become the new Ozil, Kroos and Reus? Who scored the first German goal, that was class too.

Onto Powell though and that goal sums up everything I've seen from him so far. Which is something I remember thinking about Tevez' goal against us for West Ham on the last day of the season where he closed down, blocked the clearance and managed to control his vollied shot to score the goal.

In Powell's version here he shows the work ethic in closing and tackling that I've mentioned previously in the thread to steal the ball on the half way line (seen him do that a few times already for United) he's then positive and heads for the heart of the defence instead of playing a pass. And then when he takes his shot, that chip is absolutely perfect. Right in the corner as well as easily past the keeper. Brilliant stuff

Samed Yesil scored the first two and got the assist for the third. I've written about him before in a few other threads. He's a future superstar who unfortunately just signed for Liverpool for £1m. I expect with Liverpool's lack of strikers it won't be long before we start seeing him in the first team.

Oh dear, thought I'd seen him before. Guess it was when I was looking at him >.<

Yeah seems like they found the answer to Suarez lack of finishing

It's probably bullshit as I can't remember where I read it but do you know if there any truth in the story that the only reason they got him for so little cheap is that Leverkusen have the option to buy him back for the same price?

Yup it was confirmed by Leverkusen.

The attack starts on 0:29, Powell finish is on 0:36 or so
