There was something about the way he was receiving the ball and moving it that was a lot more impressive yesterday than what I'd seen of him until that point. There was one ball over the top to Welbeck that was a perfect example. He just took it on the turn and then instantly played the pass and it nearly came off. He had no right to even spot that the ball was on.

charleysurf's right I think...he looked like he's got more ability on the ball than he's showing, as if he still hasn't really convinced himself he belongs in the same company as the players he's on the pitch with.

The goal was nice. Again the first touch was a good example. A lot of players wouldn't have had that awareness or quickness of thinking. Although the defending had all gone a bit pre-April Wigan by that point.

Agreed, I think he is probably still in awe of his surroundings at the moment and just wants to keep it simple. After a few more games/experience he will settle down and feel more comfortable

If only Pogba had stayed, I guess we'd have been settled in the central mid area for a decade or something. Well, bygones. Even now, if Powell can fulfill his potential, and one of the youngsters like Tunnicliffe step up, it'd be really great.

Theres not a fan on here that would have had Cleverley marked down to make it into our first team when he was the same age as Powell. Powell loks like he has the determination and mental strength to reach his huge potential at this club.

Cleverley's 22 or 23, and he's not going anywhere

I hope someone makes a "Nick Powell all touches vs Wigan" - would love to see how he did again.

Both of our debutants looked great. So far so good but only time will tell. Nice that our 4 new players have all settled in instantly or so it would seem.

pogba is a stupid greedy cnut. he probably asked a few grand more and expect to be playing week in week out. ffs he is only 18 19 and even someone like scholes only started to play regular football at 21, 22.. patient is the word and he obviously didn't listen...it was kind of disappointing because we had high hopes for him, as it was clear he is a very talented young player. and the funny thing is that he expect to play more at juventus! good luck then, i am very interested in knowing how many appearance he made by the end of this season.

as for powell. he is a project. still a long way to go but the good signs are there. loved the way he strike the ball. he has been doing it for fun at crewe and a couple of friendlies for us..even chicharito acknowledged powell's ability when he just waited for a few seconds before putting the ball on the plate for powell to arrive and strike. and yeah it would be great if we can have a video of all his touches this week.

Tbh he was a little sloppy other than his goal. Still has a lot of work to do, hopefully the goal will give him the confidence to feel settled at this level.

Much appreciated.

Oh, and not sure if this was posted:

Nick Powell admitted he was delighted to make his Manchester United debut, but says he was 'scared' stepping onto the pitch.

As Scholes was scoring on his 700th appearance for the Red Devils in their 4-0 win over Wigan, Powell came off the bench to fire home on his debut.

After his goal-scoring bow, Powell admitted he was 'scared' stepping onto the Old Trafford pitch.

"When I first came out onto the pitch, the crowd scared me a little bit," he said.

"I am only used to 5,000 people every now and then.

"It is a great feeling but I will keep myself on the ground."

Powell did admit he is learning a great deal from training alongside Scholes.

"It is unbelievable. He has so much experience," he said.

"He came off when I came on but it was great to be on the pitch with the lot of them, especially Scholes making his 700th appearance for United."

Sky Sports - Powell delighted with debut.

I'll delete if it has.

I think he'll get another run out against Galatasaray from the bench, then hopefully he'll get gametime against Newcastle next week.

I almost expect him to start the game alongside Cleverley giving Scholes and Carrick a rest until the weekend.

Would go against everything that SAF has been saying about our approach to this CL campaign, but I hope so.

Think clev and Powell would be a very dodgy partnership and lead to a lot of the problems from last season. Would be good if he can get some time once we've effectively won, but starting him with clev would be an issue imo. Ando in for carrick is one thing but Powell is a step too far at this level.

I reserve my right as a Utd fan to get overexcited about our young players in general and Powel in particular. Next people will be talking blasphemy about having enough wingers. There is no such thing as; too many wingers or perspective on Utd's young hopeful’s real chances.

Love that line!!! A few on here could do with getting a bit more excited!!

Yeah, I'd love to see the kid play tonight. I really don't see him starting though.

Drives a Corsa, plays in black boots and scores great goals. What's not to like?

I don't know but I'm sure half the caf will think of something once he has a poor game.

From what I've read his attitude is top notch. I'd love to see him getting more first team time.

I thought he looked really impressive in his cameo appearance against Chelsea in the cup, looked like he was starting to show his talent.

He seems to be getting just a little bit better every game. His last reserve game was a bit better than those previous, and this one a little superior to that. He demonstrated a willingness to run at players tonight that he hadn't previously which was a nice surprise. It still wasn't a shite all over the opposition type performance, but he looks to be heading in that direction.

Urghh, Morrison really was that special. I'm starting to think if he was at Arsenal instead of Wilshere he would've progressed similarly (assuming there weren't similar issues). So good.

Daehli is our best hope on that front, I think. There's a maturity about him that makes me think he's in a similar league to Morrison. I can't wait to see more of him this season.

Does anyone think any of these youngsters are as good or potentially as good as Morrison? He's sort of the benchmark for me now. I think Januzaj, Powell and Daehli are the ones with a chance. There may be others that I'v forgotten, though.

I still believe Pogba was ahead of Morrison in development, at least during the last season both were here. Pogba wasn't as quick, be he had a presence that was quite unusual for a player of his age.

Andreas Perreira looks like a raw talent that could be shaped into something special.

Hard to say. Both Ravel and Paul had their periods where their promise really shone. I think Morrison showed it more but hard to quantify for me. Outstanding talents though

If that's your benchmark you may find a lot of players disappointing.

I think that Powell is as talented as Morrison. Powell has the ability to just turn on a bit of magic at any time. I don't ever recall Morrison dribbling through a compact defence and scoring from an impossible angle like Powell did last night. I would say that the only way in which Morrison impress me more than Powell is that Morrison is capable of dominating the ball for 90mins.

Tbf to Morrison...he's now performing really well in a much tougher environment than Powell.

That's not a slight on Powell, but Morrison has been earning a lot of praise the last few weeks for Birmingham - and been influential in their attacking play.

I don't know who is more talented, but I do believe Ravel is a more 'spontaneous' player than Powell.

I am not saying that Ravel isn't a great prospect. It is more that I rate Powell extremely highly. I would like to see Powell on a championship loan.

Still no video of his goal last night?

Since we are knocked out of the league cup, I think he should now go on loan. A premier league team only please.

He could easily play week in week out for a lower tier Premier League side, that's if any of them decided to play a creative midfielder with good technique instead of traditional strong as an ox type of destructive midfielders.

I dunno, Cleverley and Welbeck both thrived at championship level didn't they? Maybe a good starting point for Powell, then we'll see where he is afterwards. A premiership team right now may be a step too far. Remember he's only ever played in league 2 up until this move so I don't see lower premiership teams willing to take that risk.

He impressed me when he came on against Chelsea. Some nice touches.

Sounds cliche, but I really do think we just need him playing with Scholes in training as much as possible. He could do with first team competitive football but, at the same time, he is only 18 so there's no rush whatsoever (especially considering we've only just signed him). The U21 league is at least comparable to the League Two football he was getting last year I should imagine, but training with first players against world class defenders is probably invaluable for him at this point. If he is as good and talented as Fergie implies then perhaps he's one we want to keep here for a season first. We've still got the FA Cup to use him in and he's getting the odd minute here and there as it is.
