NHL 2009-10 Season

I'm really disappointed in St Louis this year.. So much talent but except for Eric Johnson their youngster aren't really producing. Perron, Berglund and Oshie really should be playing better. Kariya, Backes, Tkatchuk, MacDonald etc are hardly setting the world alight either.. I think Murray has to go.. He's just too old school.. It's like having Don Cherry on the bench.

Another young team that I really like watching is the Kings.. Doughty is fecking unreal. Kopitar obviously too. LAK and my fantasy team will really welcome Smyth back soon.

winter classic today. B's down 1-0 after two. this is the third go-round for the winter classic. cool idea playing o/s but odd looking. flyers are the lessor club but the B's have a heck of a time with them. they need to win this game. it would help cure the mental block they have about philly.

The Bruins are twats, looked like it would have been great to go through, Fenway was the perfect size for it

In fairness I should have the Flyers are twats too

Just came back from vacation. Just in time to see Sweden play in the final of the WJCs against Canada for the third year in a row.

Or so I thought. CAN - USA instead. I'll be rooting for the US. I'm a big ABC when it comes to international hockey.

The Americans blew it in the group stages, don't see it being any different in the final.

How about those Swiss though? The Russians were crying

What do you think about the olympic squads IS?

The Olympics! Can't wait.

Well I've only had a glance at the teams and I don't really like the Sweden roster. Why ON EARTH did Bengt-Åke go with 8 d-men and only 12 forwards? Fredrik "12 games / 2 pts" Modin? What the hell? Magnus "Soft" Johansson?
At least I'm thrilled Douglas Murray will be there. Didn't think he'd make it.

Did you see Micke Samuelsson's reaction to not getting picked? "They can go feck themselves!"

Some of the more important Swedes are injured and will - hopefully - come back just in time for the tournament to start, but in what shape? Too bad that Franzén is out. Will Forsberg really be there? And will the oh-so important Lundqvist not be fatigued while playing so much for the Rangers? Enström and Henrik Sedin in particular are the positive surprises for us this year.

I do think we could be a difficult team to play against though with a very competent D, a quality goalie, an abundance of good two-way forwards who play a good passing game while having a couple of annoying feckers in front of net like Holmström, Hörnqvist and Loui Eriksson.
But I think we will make the semi-final at best. Hope I'm wrong.

I like the Canadian team. Yzerman did the right thing in trying to assemble a team of players with specific roles and not an all-star team (even though with the quality at their disposal that's basically what it is anyhow). I like that they brought both Keith (who is awesome) and Seabrook who play together for Chicago. Expected Bouwmeester and / or Green to be there and Bergeron was a bit of a surprise, but really it's no big deal for them. Loved to see Doughty there though. The only player I really miss is Marty St.Louis who is a personal favourite.

Russia will no doubt be great and I think they have a great team all around with so many überstars on the roster and quality goal tending and a quality, yet under-appreciated defence.

Czech roster is a bit underwhelming imo.

The Slovaks have some amazing players, but a big question mark for me is their goal tending.

Finns are a bit old but have the goalies and the work capacity to upset anyone.

The US have a very good team and probably the best goalie in the NHL right now. I would not be surprised at all to see them medal.

Gold Canada Silver Russia Bronze USA

Damn, that's one huge post.

feck sakes guys! Where are you? Anyone has some thought on the Olympics?

And what the hell has happened to the Sedins? Henrik's the top scorer in the NHL and one of the top contenders for the Heart? Never thought I'd see the day. They are pretty damn awesome at cycling the puck though but like with so many gingers it's pretty hard to really warm to them.

Can't wait for them to be honest.

The Russian team with a potential forward line of Kovalchuk-Malkin-Ovechkin has me drooling at the mouth (it seems Malkin is saving himself for the olympics), The Canadian team, as always has some pretty special players and with Heatly-Thornton-Marleau developing some chemistry for the Sharks, they'll be formidable (as always). A bit gutted that Jordan Staal didn't get in the squad, but it shows you the depth of the Canadian team. As for the Europeans, I guess you'll be able to speak more about it, but the Swedes seem to have a relatively underwhelming team from what they usually have.

Can't disagree with your medal predications in terms of quality of teams, but I can certainly see Russia beating Canada in a one-off game......should be a great spectacle whatever!! Cannot wait!

I've started watching this on ESPN America - is really fun!
Who are the Man Utd of the league then, i.e. should I be supporting?

Ay Paz, glad to see you're showing interest.

If you wanna jump on a hot bandwagon right now, the Blackhawks are the team... young, contending, and very entertaining.

Florida Panthers.. A team that has everything. Or maybe the Leafs could be called the United of the NHL? They just never seem to quit winning ;)

Seriously though.. The Blackhawks are the most entertaining team to watch this year in my opinion as well.

Yeah, the Russians top end talent is just filthy. Would not be upset to see them win gold. Will be scary as hell when your team gives up a PP to them!

They could ice an incredible PP like Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Malkin-Kovalchuk-Gonchar. And that's leaving out great PP players like Semin and Markov who get to play PP2... Just ridiculous.

Yeah it's a bit of a middle year for Sweden.. The youngsters are a bit too young and the oldies a bit too old with some key players retired like Sundin and maybe Forsberg (have my doubts he'll actually make it even though he was selected). We have a decent shot still.. A team with the Sedins, Zetterberg, Lidström, Alfie, Lundqvist and hopefully Forsberg could always do some damage. Not to mention the human wall Dogge Murray! hehe.. I just love that guy.

Hehe... I know. You're running away with the league, but my team is like Smurf cryptonite so far. Probably the teams best performances have come against you.

Just took a chance and picked up DiPietro since my goalies have been quite underwhelming.

i created a thread on this in the general and since my missus is from calgary and they were on the telly this evening (and won!) I shall probably be supporting them.....pls tell me it is a wise choice!

Well if you want to support the Flames (like me) then be prepared for years of frustration after another first round exit in the play-offs :(

I have to say the holdout/strike ruined hockey for some people, why do I know this I am one of them. I was a season Avs ticket holder and would sit right behind the goal every game or sell the tickets and buy a quarter. After the holdout and watching the Avs have to either not resign or trade their best, I was like feck off. It was total bullshit, feck you Bettman. feck you! That said I will always root for the Avs and wish them the best, but be a season ticket holder again, naw, feck that.

The Avs are one of the most exciting young teams right now though. But yeah I have heard that the ticket prices are insane. If they only could learn how to hold on to a lead....

Bah the Calgary Flames, used to beat the Avs all the time until this season. Now they lose against the crap Oilers instead:(

And no idea what Henrik Sedin is up to:eek:

For the record it's Wild and Devils that is ruining hockey....

Henrik Sedin indeed.

They got their money so they play like they should have been since they joined.

We beat the Avs when we were half good as well, so stop your moaning. Anyway, the Oilers aren't crap, we've obviously tanked for the year to get the first pick. Coach Quinn wants his own players in, not the over paid stars who were locked in to exceptionally high contracts after 1 cup run.

err the fecking flames haven't won a SINGLE game since I've decided to support them...infact they lost 9-1 last night

Told you

As for Cormier, I hope it effects his potential NHL career too... There was no influence from anyone, the coach was cleared yesterday before the Q dropped suspension.

Pisses me off because I got 2 tickets to see them play in a few weeks.
