NHL 2009-10 Season

It's been documented, but only as a rumor that he wants out of Tampa and to play in Montreal, he's made it no secret apparently in the nightclubs and has been a bit of a sour apple suring road trips apparently... the problem is, he's only costing himself a potential spot on the Olympic team, and since the Habs have commited so much financially to this most recent new crop of players, there's no room for him.

He'll be moved this year

I think he should be moved if that's true. If I was Tampa I'd be pretty pissed off about it though. He's one of the best paid players in the league and is their C to boot.

Yeah. 7,7 cap hit for something like 10 years. Insane contract.

He scored against the Leafs yesterday though.

Insane as a 10 year contract for those figures are, I'd rather be paying somone like Vinny that, than being stuck with a $5.5m 5 year average for Shaun Horcroff ($7m) he's getting for this year....

Bad night for the Rangers last night. Glencross hit Drury with a cheap shot to the head in the first minute which went unpenalized. He'll be suspended for it. Drury's out with a concussion - the third of his career. Then Dubinsky blocked a Phaneuf slapshot and it hit him in the wrist and early signs seem to point to him having some broken bones. Lost the game, and 2 centers.

Sign Forsberg ;)

Him and Gaborik would be something else.

Would be a huge risk though since both are injury prone. If he really is fit enough I think he'll sign with the Avs since they've started so well. You could see he still has it in the Karjala cup games eventhough he did lack match practice.

Wow, didn't know Horcroff was signed up for five years. And that's a pretty bad cap hit given his performance.

We're scouting him and Sather has said he'd like to sign Foppa... Of course I think every other team in the league is scouting him too.

Even if he's injury prone, I would take it in a heart beat. He's so amazingly talented and like you said, he and Gaborik together would just be absurd.

Not sure what Glencross was thinking there (if anything) but since Richards wasn't suspended for the Booth hit I doubt Glencross will for this one

Booth had at least played the puck though IIRC. Drury was never even near it. I'd be really amazed if he didn't get SOMETHING. But I really shouldn't be. It is the NHL we're talking about. They want to cut down hits to the head, so they suspend guys who do it for a game and implement the instigator rule so it's hard to protect your own. Gotta love Bettman and Co. That said, Drury is hardly a big loss for us on anything other than the PK.

Looks like Dubinsky's out 6 weeks. This should be interesting.

Here's a WTF pic of Messier. Does he have a handful of Coleman's ass?

That's fecking crazy, seems Messier is using a Gary Coleman sized towel. What beer is that Red Stripe?

Forsberg is still supremely talented, but I dont think he has it in him to last a whole NHL season which is a shame because he would be useful, if I was him I would sit out til just about when the playoffs hit like he did in 2001-2002 following his splenectomy and ankle surgery, he was the best player in those playoffs by some distance as well

3 games for Glencross it is, Bettman and company are consistently not consistent at least.

So sadly true. That's the only thing you can count on when it comes to the NHL front office. Well, that and the fact that no star player will ever get anything other than a slap on the wrist.

Agree with you guys. It's pathetic to see how some players get treated differently because they're stars. Glencross deserved his suspension though. He was clearly head hunting there.

So the Forsberg saga is over.. for now.

Him and Markus Näslund (who comes back from retirement) will play for their home town team Modo who are struggling economically and on the ice and will play for free. Although I don't like it as a fan of an opposing team you've got to agree that's it's a very classy thing to do.

A fantastic show, and both will probably make a dip across the Atlantic and come back to the NHL

Forsberg had 3 assists in his first game back yesterday. I hope he'll be fit for the Olympics.

I don't think they will. Forsberg will be 37 next year and I think this was the last chance actually, but we'll see. Näslund is the same age and didn't look that good for NYR last year and would have to go back to them and his 4 m cap hit. An idea I don't think the Rangers would be too fond of.

Quite amazing how many quality players their hometown Örnsköldsvik (pop. 28 617) has been able to produce though. Forsberg, Näslund, Sundström, the Sedins, Hedman, Enström and a whole lot of SEL level players..

I especially doubt Naslund will. He knew he wanted to leave the NHL and opted out of his contract with the Rangers for $4 million this year. Very, very classy move. All sports need more professionals like him and Forsberg. It's not often you'll get professional sports players who will play for free.

You know, barring some nutcases here and there, I think it isn't a stretch to say that the NHL may have the best professionals in any major sport. They're definitely excellent human beings for the most case.

I've been thinking about that too. It seems like so many hockey players are just good solid people.
I hate most of the big brother-like celebrities on the Swedish national team in football while I like most of the players on the hockey team. Must be the culture of the sport somehow.

You see a lot less classy, down to earth stars like Iginla and Lidström in other sports.

Agreed. He's the total package and one of the most entertaining players in the league. When he's healthy he's one of the best in the business. After Sweden, Slovakia will definitely be the team I'll be rooting for in the Olympics.

The Habs are somehow winning with 3/4 of their roster out injured (Markov, Gomez, Gionta, Spacek, Kostitsyn, Gill etc.)

Good to see Carey Price playing like a star.

Glad to see Latendresse traded as well.

Next to impossible to win tionight in Pittsburgh though when you're playing your farm team.

Pretty amazing how well the Devils have done without their first pairing d-men and a bunch of other injuries.. Parise is awesome and Clarkson is another favourite of mine who plays for NJD.
And as the Swedish homer that I am I have to point out that it's nice to see Bergfors doing this well for them after spending a bunch of years in the AHL.

On paper, they have a borderline play-off team but they have that winning culture like Detroit or United for that matter and always seem to do well.

And then there's always that fellow called Marty (Martyyyyyyy to his friends like nyrfan and Sean Avery ;))

The Avs are failing to decieve and in all honesty getting fecked over by the shootout rule which I think is a bunch of shit

Yeah.. They should adopt the football system. 3 pts win, 1 pt draw, zero pts loss and dump the shootout, but keep the never ending OT period system for the playoffs IMO.

Speaking of hockey bizarreness. As football fans, don't you guys feel that it's strange that a goal is worth the same as a second assist in the scoring race? I'd like to see a goal worth two points. Maybe even have it as goal = 3 pts, assist = 2 pts, second assist = 1pt.

In most betting forms, a goal is worth 2 points on the simple fact that it is more valuable.

But end of the day, the points system is one of the very few things changed from hockey since the 1800's, and it would significantly shake up the game and the record book if you make such a change.

Playmakers deserve as much credit as the goalscorer.

It's good that playmakers get recognition, but it's the second assist mostly that I take issue with. Sometimes a SA can be amazing, but so often it's a simple pass that didn't really contribute to the goal. And the guy who made it gets the awarded like if he had scored a goal himself basically.

I see your point about records that it would be weird to throw the old stats away, but they aren't really worth that much anyhow since the game is so different today compared to earlier. New sticks, equipment, goalie techniques etc has changed the game severely. Gretzky or Orr (although they were obviously amazing) wouldn't put up those numbers in todays game anyhow.

Knee on knees in 3 games and then THAT.

Going to be a new topic in hockey, controlling frustrations... I can see it now.

Though, I think this is a food jumper to get that going, it always confused me and made me feel a bit of shame whenever a player would smash their thousand dollar hockey sticks over a crossbar like a child.
