NHL 2009-10 Season

It looked like Anderson played drunk tonight... And Stastny really need to start scoring. Well I'm gonna use the same old excuse, they are a young inexperienced team and will learn from this bla bla bla

it's old news now but marc savard is lost to the bruins for the rest of the season...maybe longer. matt cooke is a cheap-shot artist of the highest order and needed to be suspended. a black mark on the nhl for their inaction.

But it has the owners talking

For every dark cloud is a glimmer of sun, hopefully we move on from this with new policing

They seriously need to do something about all these head-shots. When they didn't suspend Richards for his hit on Booth the league set a stupid precedent.

Hope they fix it for next season.

For once I'm with Don Cherry on this issue. If they don't do something now, we'll see a wave of head shots during the play-off's. All it takes is one bad hit and we'll have another Lindross on our hands, can you imagine the uproar if Crosby got hit, and ended up half the player and retiring way too early?

I've gone from hating Don Cherry to really enjoying his segments. If you take him for what he is, he's actually quite sensible at times.

I'm sure the feeling isn't mutual though.. He really fecking hates Swedes!

Lindros was just so incredibly amazing. Such a shame about the injuries.

I can finally post in this thread :D, i support the dreaded Toronto Maple Leafs (keep the jokes to yourself), have any you guys seen the downie cheap shot at crosby, it looks like he isnt going to be suspended, which is just bs from the league.

here's the link:

Hockey is at a crossroad right now... The Olympics hid what is the scary and sad reality that this game is getting dirtier... More Junior hockey hits, more cheap shots in pro hockey, and more negativity and lack of punishment.

It's the helmets people would think twice about dirty hits if they didnt have a helmet on their head

Did you see the fight the other night, I don't remember the players but one of them smashed their head on the ice, could have been instant death.

The thing is of course that could happen but it never did way back in da day

Kovalev was always a half-assed player until he wanted to try... The thing is, he's easily (And I say this in comparison to Ovechkin, Malkin and Crosby) has the most talent in hockey, EASILY.

It's a shame he didn't take advantage in NY or MTL because both teams could have won titles with him in the team... This Ottawa team looked like they might have a go at the cup but have seemed to falter, and with no coincidence it's when Kovalev is in one of the worst slumps of his career.

Incredibly frustrating player Kovalev, great talent but no heart (most of the time at least).

TBF, NYR did win a title with Kovalev on the team. He probably just didn't give a rat's ass after the first Stanley Cup.

Disagree that he has more talent than those three though.

Jesus I forgot he played in 1994

Yes, he is, raw talent 5 years ago, Kovalev was the best hockey player on the planet, he just didnt try.

There was a documentary on him from 2 or 3 years ago and Ovechkin even called him the best player in the world.

There were clips of him doing the most outlandish things as a youth player and in scrimmage with the habs.

Five years ago I'd have had Jagr or Forsberg in front of him in talent, just because you can do it all doesnt mean you can do it. Quaresma is probably as talented as anyone in teh game so what. I think that you are taking a pretty narrow view point of talent when you don;'t consider stuff like mental fortitude and desire in there. Sure they are different than physical skills, but the if you count talent as the abilities one possesses, surely those two along wiht many others. Come on AS, Kovalev was always talented, but the best in the league no chance.

Well I did say...

To be fair I should had said "had" and not has, but i did point that out.

But right now he doesn't have as much talent as either Sedin or Datsuyk or Kovalchuk or wee St. Louis or quite frankly Spezza.

Joe Thorton in San Jose is in real danger of becoming the next Kovalev... all the talent in the world, with no heart and no championships, the consumate "nearly" man.

Strange pick up by Ottawa to begin with, but it has sort of worked out for them, mainly because losing Heatley meant that they have been forced to play better as a team.

David Booth's career over? It was a nothing hit and he was completely out of it.

Something is going on with his brother or something, used to know him quite well, as he was family with one of my best friends. He was an agent who lived in Denver, then all of a sudden last year or something lost it divorced his wife and I dont know what else. Havent heard anything else on it, but it's a shame he was a very nice guy and was awesome to talk hockey with.

Ah come on that was a legal hit by Spacek. No elbow, no blinside hit, not even that hard. After the match nobody on the Panthers complained that it was dirty. When it happened you didn't instantly think ''Damn, he just got his head taken off''. I just think he's very susceptible to concussions right now after that Richards hit.

Nothing wrong with that hit IMO.

He probably shouldn't have been playing. Hope Booth will be okay. What a shitty year for him.

Is Maple Leaf Gardens still standing? Do they have any minor league games there, was an awesome venue.

The Marlies play a game or 2 there a year I think but the place is basically for viewing only, they have different seats there now.

Should you not be able to check a player becaue they have a history of concussions?

Might I politely remind all that i'm a Habs fan?

1. He left his feet, there was a discussion topic on HF that showed that his skates were off the ground.
2. The arm was raised, contact with the head wasn't made with the elbow or shoulder in a harmful matter but the fact is, bu raising your center of gravity, you run the risk OF a headshot.

I don't have a problem with the hit persay, however it was still unnecessary of Yiro to raise his body.

its still standing, my Uni's 5minutes away, they turning the bottom floor into a Loblaws (a grocery supermarket), the second floor into a hockey rink, and the third into a recreation/gym for Ryerson University.

After the impact.

I don't quite get your POV. You're saying he made a clean hit but disappointed he made it?

I'm essentially saying it was more dangerous than a regular "clean" hit, and in these times I'd like to see players from my favorite teams stray away from controversy while we're trying to get into the playoffs.

He was just a speed merchant cherry picker, a damn good one though

Anyone want to see Calgary make the play-offs?

I'm a AVS fan so no.... Huge game tonight, the winner will probably gain the momentum they need to push into the play-offs.

Anyone want to see Calgary make the play-offs?

Hell no, I think I'd rather see Toronto win the Stanely Cup than that...... Finishing 9th is always perfect for Calgary.. I'm feeling even more spiteful today towards the the Flames today, having gone through the good times watching "Boys on the Bus" last night, reminded me of Smiths own goal in the 86 play-off's.
