This is exactly the player we've been crying out for .Why we'll probably not sign him.

If he really does have a £20 million release clause then we should be all over it. He's exactly what we need.

Like most posters on here, I believe Morgan is somewhat a forgotten identity in our squad. Think with Morgan and Blind, we're covered. Concentrate on the creative side of the squad.

TOP TOP player, showed again last night. But was just a little below his normal dominant game i thought. Maybe the wrong formation or style to get the best out of him.

You may be right about that. Blind and Schneiderlin are both underrated and got a bit tangled up in the Philosophy experimentation. They will improve next year whether that's here or elsewhere.

I think it's same to say he will move this summer. I can see any of the big PL boys after him, as well as PSG and maybe Real.

He's looked really good all season and was quality last night. However, he's too similar to TFM for me and for that reason i wouldn't bother bringing him in. TFM will be better if allowed to progress because he is simply a better passer of the ball, whilst still having the same levels of aggression etc.

How can he be better if he can't run as much?

Lol we do love to overrate our own players don't we. TFM has barely played for us and yet he's going to be better than Kante, who's probably been the best player in the entire league this season and starts for the current Euro favourites.

Ok

Well said.

Damien Duff is "a million percent sure" Mourihno will try and get him, if that means anything to anyone.

I would say more like forgettable. We may be covered in terms of numbers in central midfield but in terms of quality for an entire season I would say its just as much a priority we make at least one central midfield signing as for me Rooney and Carrick are still our best central midfielders. Kante has been outstanding all season and would be a great signing, though I dont think for us. I think longer term Mensah could blossom in to a great cm for us, a good reason to keep Carrick for another year. Id rather a more all round creative cm the likes of Pogba or Gomes we keep getting linked with if not them a similar type

Was watching RTE earlier on and Kante's name came up. Johhny Giles reckons he's the best midfielder he's seen since Makalele and Damien Duff agreed saying that Mourinho absolutely adored Makalele and he is "One million percent sure", that Jose will make a move for Kante this Summer. Hopefully he's right, Kante is without a doubt a class act.

Last year Kante's whoscored rating = 7.6, and Mahrez = 7.7. There are 30 players in that database with ratings equal or better than them. Let's call them "world class", for want of a better term. They are distributed as:

Paris Saint Germain --- 4
Barcelona -------------- 3
Real Madrid ------------ 3
Arsenal ----------------- 2
Bayern Munich --------- 2
Juventus --------------- 2
Leicester --------------- 2
Atletico Madrid -------- 1
Augsburg -------------- 1
B. Dortmund ---------- 1
B. M.Gladbach -------- 1
Lille -------------------- 1
Napoli ----------------- 1
Nice ------------------- 1
Rennes ---------------- 1
Southampton --------- 1
Tottenham ------------ 1
West Ham ------------ 1
Zenit St. P'burg ------- 1

This year we should pick up 2 of them from Leicester, for cash or part-exchange for whomever they want from our midfield, one of them from PSG. One from Southampton (ideally in part exchange for Smalling); and possibly: Sofiane Boufal from Lille. The other 25 are almost certainly out of reach, or too old. That will give us 5 of the "best" 30 players (based on stats). It's as good a way as any to build a team. That top 30 lot performed last year. If they can do it again we have the title.

Have we been linked with him by any (relatively) reputable sources?

I'd like to see him at United, although I have no idea what that'd mean for our other midfielders.

Yeah if only it was that easy. And what would be the purpose of selling Smalling?

When was the last time a part exchange transfer deal happened in the real world and not football manager? i'm struggling to think of any except the ridiculous Eto'o & Zlatan deal.

We'd be daft not to have a go if he's really got a £20m clause - Leicester's most important player for me.

What?

Money + Smalling for van Dijk FFS.

For me he is exactly what we need. A midfield destroyer. Someone who covers the back 4 and gets into people's faces. We don't have anyone like that. If he has a £20 million buyout clause that has to be activated as soon as the Euros is over. He should be priority in my opinion. It's going to be tough to get players with no CL but hopefully Mourinho has that pull.

He is quite excellent. I think one of the commentators last night quoted Wenger whose statement rings true: 'the higher the level of football, the more at ease Kante seems'. Whoever does manage to sign him is in for a real treat.

Yes please. Not sure what it would mean for Schneiderlin but at £20m you cannot pass up the opportunity. Even more so considering he'll probably strengthen a rival if we don't go for him.

It means that he has to buckle up and fight for his place or feck off.

He also said, what is the idea of a designated midfielder. When you have Knate. He proves you dont need this modern nonsense and two Kante type players who can disrupt play and impose themselves on the game. Is what teams should have. Similar to Liecester where him and drinkwater to put shifts in would work out naturally that one would sit and the other push on as the situation arose, allowing the normal run of play more flexibility. Where a midfielder would both attack and hold not just hold or attack.

He is of course right and i am paraphrasing a little. But thats pretty much it in a nutshell.
He is the closest thing i have seen to Roy Keane in years. Not quite as dominant or demanding of his team mates. But he is very close in work rate, commitment and energy.

SO thats one, where can we find another Kante type?

Would be a great deal even at 40mil. He's a brilliant midfielder so we should go all out for him. Mourinho would make him like Makelele basically.

At 22m, a definite buy. I dunno if he's a Mourinho kind of player though. Conte would love him at Chelsea however.

I'm still not sold on Kante. He puts a great shift in and he doesn't seem to know what being out of energy even means. But I don't think he's actually that good with the ball at his feet. It seems to me like at a club that has teams coming to park the bus constantly he'd be a bit of a non-entity. Plus our team seems to be so short and isn't he about 5"8 or something ridiculous like that? If he does sign for us I'll give him every chance before just writing him off like I'd do with every player, but I'm just not seeing the hype personally.
Knowing my luck I'm massively under-rating him, he'll sign for us and be incredible and I'll get a tag line along the lines of "the only idiot who didn't rate Kante at Leicester"

Good post, I agree.
Finding effective players of that type isn't always easy. He reminds me a bit of Gattuso. Different personality of course. But in terms of the Italian players I've seen only Maldini and Baresi are clearly ahead of him, despite his 'technical limitations'. For example, if you look at the #10s, Baggio, Tardelli, Del piero et al. one is as good as another. But there's no synonymous alternative to Gattuso. I believe neither Milan nor the NT would have been so successful in the noughties without him. I think Kante at least has the potential to attain the same level of influence.
I'll be gutted if Arsenal gets him.
