I'd love it if we picked him up

Even though we have a great defensive record it's based on not committing players to attack. Also at times it looked like you could drive a bus through our midfield

Kante would control the middle and allow others to go and play.

Imagine kante, in front of kroos with Sanches just in front in a middle 3.

Isn't that what Morgan Schneiderlin was supposed to be?

There's reports out there that Kante has a release clause. Eoody won't be interested in him until that clause has expires, and he needs to pay double the price

He was, but there's no harm in getting a better player into the squad.

Thing is, Morgan was supposed to be a perfect fit and would be our definitive defensive mid for years. Who's to say Kante would be any better?

Cannot judge any player under LvG, even Schneiderlin who I am a big fan of.

Kante isn't a holding midfielder, he's similar to Morgan, box to box ball winner.

Hes been better than Schneiderlin has ever shown this season though our setup is a long way away from Leicester

Schneiderlin was the best CDM in the league last year.

Not sure about Kante personally. Drinkwater has looked great too, but that doesn't mean we should for him.

Mcnair......... Jones...Carrick...fonsu mensah
Schweinstiger...Kante...Schneiderlin...blind
...............................Fellaini.........................
...............................Rooney........................
I could see lvg going for that... He does seem to like the odd player who can play dm

Feck... imagine that?!!! That'd tip me over the edge

This years Schneiderlin for me. A limited CDM who covers every inch of grass in a backs-to-the-wall defensive setup. He is totally useless for what we're aiming for though.
If we'd sign him people would be on his back in two minutes to emphasize how his ball skills are not enough for a team aiming for controlling games. He should stay where he is I think.

He is pacy and good at carrying the ball forward, offers more going forward in general.

Not a playmaker though if that's what people are expecting.

If people came expect him to be a playmaker than that's their own stupidity. Kante presses teams and wins the ball back. Mahrez and Drinkwater are their playmakers.

Pep Guardiola: Operation N’Golo Kanté

Manchester City are in advanced discussions over the possible transfer of French international N’Golo Kanté from Leicester City, according to today’s edition of L’Équipe.

Pep Guardiola wants the Citizens to sign Kanté, and his new club has held two meetings with Kanté’s representatives, with the second occurring just yesterday.

Arsenal have also held their own meetings with Kanté’s representatives, and it is the Gunners whose arguments have been the most convincing to the former SM Caen man so far.

AFC and also Chelsea who have made discreet enquiries remain more interesting propositions for Kanté at the moment than Manchester City, according to the report.

The player has a €25m release clause.

Don't want anyone to sign him, at least not until he signs a new contract and Leicester get what they deserve.

If that release clause is true i'm sure a lot of teams will be looking to trigger it this summer.

Does Mahrez have a release clause too?

Kante... and Gundogan? It looks that they will have the midfield that I want for us. Also, it seems that they are going for Laporte. Well, I hope we sign quality players to compete for the league next season.

Well if any of that is true and Man City are his least interesting option right now there would be no point whatsoever in us trying to sign him.

By all accounts Mahrez has no buyout and rumors of Leicester wanting £40m if they even would contemplate selling. Think that is a 100% profit. Not bad.

What is with L'equipe this summer? Ate they suddenly ITK.
Not sure but Mohamed Bouhafsi seems to be very reliable. Broke Martial to United and Dembele to Dortmund.

I think we have the history and heritage that would mean a lot of players would want to sign for us, especially if we get someone like Mourinho for next season.

Also we generally do (and will have to) overpay anyone who wants to join

I think that history and heritage is not as appealing these days to players. I certainly do not believe we are even the biggest draw in our own league anymore. But yes a lot of players would still join us of course and with Jose you know you are near enough guaranteed a title.

As for buying at higher prices I would certainly take Mahrez for £40m

Based on this season then definitely but he could turn out to be a one season wonder or big fish in a small pond, that's always the risk you take. But considering our other options then both Kante and Mahrez would end up as massive upgrades on what we have

Instant upgrade on either Fernando or Fernandinho in midfield, so it makes perfect sense.

Very true but I see too much in him to be a one hit wonder, just like I thought with Harry Kane. I think his age is perfect too and the individual skill he possesses is on par with anybody in the league. I think he is a top player. Not saying he would be anywhere near Zidane quality but it's similar to him being at a much lower level team for his talent, he didn't make it big until he was 23/24 and moved to Juve from Bordeaux. I think Mahrez could have a similar path to much bigger things by getting a move to a bigger club. As for Kante it is a no brainer for the buyout clause mentioned.

That's (another) problem with keeping Van Gaal until now (apart from him being sh!t obviously) we still haven't apparently decided who'll be Manager next year.

It's hard enough to attract the players we want without having CL, but while we arse about, other clubs in England (and Europe) are cracking on with their transfer targets while Deadwood sits on his hands...... again. By the time we're ready, there'll be cack all left OR we'll pay through the nose.

If Kante's rumoured release clause is true, it's a no-brainer.

Seems to be. In the paper, L'Equipe says that Leicester tried to cancel this clause and then to raise it with financial compensation several times for the player but they failed. They say the clause remains 20M£.

Schneiderlin unleashed may be a completely different player to what we have seen this season. His forays into the box, and threat going forward was what impressed me when he was at Southampton. No reason why that player can't come back.

I just find it hard to understand how a 24 years old relatively unknown French midfielder from Caen can come to the PL and absolutely dominate the shit out of it. I mean, the guy was bossing it week in week out, it was madness. Playing against him must be terrifying, he's going to haunt you all over the pitch.

Stats indicate he bossed Ligue 1 in a similar manner and their CMs are not totally dissimilar from Prem CMs albeit a little worse.

Look at this: http://imgur.com/a2eSI8T

Let's sign him for whatever it costs and start being hard to play against. His ballwinning would give Martial more chances to run at defenders 1 on 1 and that would obviously be a good thing.

I'm sorry, but if that clause is true, there shouldn't be a top club in this league, at least, who isn't offering Kante a place in their team. It should literally be a case of a wages war for his services.

Perhaps at £30m+ you've got to weigh up the pros and cons of the player and whether you can cater to him and him to your 1st xi, but at £20m, you have him in your team or on your bench as part of the rotation.

It will be disappointing if we've not sounded him out and tried to bring him here. Fair enough if he opts to go elsewhere, but we should throw our hat into the ring at the very least.

I think high wages over a long contract are more damaging than paying £10m - £15m pounds more for him at the standard wage. Simply because a smaller contract makes it easier to get rid if things don't work out.
I do agree that being in for him is a no brainer but if we aren't maybe its because, like we did with Guardiola, we already know its a lost cause and he's made his decision.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Kante said he didn't think he could turn us down if we wanted him?

Or am I making that up?

He's a good player to have, I just don't know how we'd fit him in with Schneiderlin here.

True, but as things are at the moment, unless Kante gets into France's 1st xi for the Euros and has a stellar tournament, his pay jump surely won't bump into the superstar category this summer. No question if he goes to a top club and has a similar season to the one he's just had, he'll be rightfully in a position to renegotiate for premium wages as he'll legitimately be seen as one of the best midfielders in the world.

He's going to be on more than Leicester can offer wherever he goes, but there's no need for the buying club to go overboard unless a bidding war ensues; he has the amazing Euros, or they truly believe they're buying a potential superstar.

Fair enough if it's a done deal elsewhere, but if it isn't, we really should be all over him, imo.

We dont' need Kante. We have Schneiderlin. Our whole team has been poor this season concluding that scheids isn't one of the best mfs in the prem isn't smart.

Swapping one for the other might give us a boost who knows, but it won't make much of a difference

That said mourinho would likely want two ball winners so could be space for both in CM

N’Golo Kanté has chosen Arsenal

Following much deliberation, specifically between Chelsea and Arsenal, but also considering Manchester City and PSG, Leicester City and French international N’Golo Kanté has decided that he wants to join the Gunners, according to multiple French press reports.

Kanté has a €25m release clause in his current contract and the player’s representatives are now understood to have informed Arsenal of their client’s decision, effectively inviting the Gunners the activate that clause.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger had personally decided to pursue Kanté this summer.
