NFL Thread 2014-2015

Manning is either carrying some injury they are keeping quiet or he really has just faded awfully fast this season. My guess will be Denver will be , not pressuring, but hinting at him that it probably is time to retire. He could decide to stick around and collect a few more paychecks, some team would give him a year or two at QB. Maybe he can sign with Buffalo.

Manning played like he did in the 13/14 season up until week 8, that's what makes his drop off more astounding. If he does retire, who plays QB for the Broncos? Doubt they'll get anyone in the draft. Is Osweiler good enough? Who is available via trade, Mike Glennon, Jay Cutler and a few journeymen QBs maybe. Locker, Ponder and Sanchez are the best of a weak free agent selection.

Lots of talk today about Manning having a quad strain for the last month of the season. Some people claiming it was a quad tear but we all know that's crap, a quad tear would have him on the sidelines.

Time for Denver to make some big changes I reckon, starting with Manning. The reality is that he was brought in to win a Superbowl and it hasn't worked.

I'd gladly take Manning on the Texans for a season or two but he needs an awfully good offensive line to make it work at this point. Even the slightest of hits is a career threatening injury when his neck-arm junction is as delicate as it looks. Texans afforded Fitzpatrick to take a ton of abuse but he's also a headless chicken unlike Manning.

Denver window is now closed. Even if Peyton comes back, he's not the same, and there is gonna be a huge turnover of players. Doubt both of the Thomas' will be back for one.

Even worse for them is that they committed money to Demarcus Ware and Aqib Talib who both looked extremely ordinary against the Colts. Talib was a borderline liability like Manning and I think he is on the hook for 6 years or something, not sure how much of that is guaranteed.

Elway must be bricking it. A hurt Peyton is still better than 75 % of the league's QBs, could take them to another post season and is a de facto offensive coordinator so no point cutting him even if the chances for full recovery are slim. Unless they strike gold again and grab a non tagged Roethlisberger or Rivers in 2016 FA, their short term future looks rather sad. Osweiler isn't that good, the 2015 FA market is weak and in all likelihood they won't find any potential franchise QBs by the time they're picking in Round 1.

As for Peyton, if he's released and relatively healthy some place like the Rams (doesn't wanna play in NFC though does he) or Buffalo would be perfect for him. Great defense. Decent running game and skill players. Could take them to the playoffs at the very least which would be an achievement for either team given their recent track record.

They would be a great fit, Rex Ryan is also a massive Manning fan, it would be a statement of intent from the new owners as well. Can't see Manning leaving the Broncos unless it's his own decision though.

Expect a clear out at Denver. OC will probably go too, as will one Thomas most likely. I also don't see manning returning.

Rumors in the Denver media that Fox's people planted this report on Sunday http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...cos-could-dump-john-fox-if-they-lose-to-colts and that he was fed up with both the playing and management staffs (possibly a mutual feeling). Perhaps Manning and/or Elway is making life difficult for Fox and he wanted out. Rumors he's being tapped up for the Chicago job as well.

Gase is apparently on his way to San Francisco for another interview and is expected to receive an offer very soon.

Marinelli is rumored to be taking a lateral position with Tampa Bay.

Was told by a resident in the DFW area that Garrett (out of contract) has been courted by a few teams.

Don't really care but really want Oregon to win tonight's NCAA championship game. I fecking despise Ohio State and that annoying fan base. Only Alabama has a more annoying fan base I've encountered, and it's very close on the annoyance level. Part of the problem I notice is that both fan bases are way too involved in the football programs, as if it's their primary reason to live.

Upon further review, I think that Dez Bryant made the catch. He had both feet down, took another step to leap towards the goal line with the ball in one hand (a football move), then suffered a ground induced fumble.

Furthermore, for the sake of the insufferable Cowboys fans I live with, I'd have preferred they just got trounced.

OSU is smashing them offensively with that power game, and Oregon receivers have dropped too many passes. Oregon needs to get a score before half to get back into this.

You're down 15 with about 8:00, you're defense can't stop the opposition, your offense is your best defense, and you punt on 4th-and-7 from you're own 26?

No balls. Comes off as giving up hope. Better hope the defense gets a good stop here but I highly doubt it.

Surely not. I'm biased, but I find Florida, LSU, Stamford and Penn State fans more obnoxious. tOSU's program has been on the sidelines of national conversation for a few years now.

The three Bills fans I know are not so happy about the Ryan hiring. I smell a disaster in the making.

I think he's a good head coach actually. But he's been burdened with two of the most useless GMs in Jets' history: Tannenbaum and Idzik.

The problem he has with the Bills is virtually the same one he's had over the past few years with the Jets- good defence and no quarterback (Bills' offence is a definite upgrade, though).

I foresee an 8-8/9-7 season ahead. Unless they package some picks and move up to get a QB in the draft.

Yup. That trade up for Watkins made no sense. Could've stayed pat and taken Beckham Jr or Benjamin or traded back and improved their QB play with Bridgewater. Even some of the 2nd and 3rd days picks - Adams, Moncrief, Lattimer, Bryant were awesome given the historic depth of last year's WR class.

Evans was gone by 7 though so a bit out of Buffalo's reach.

Someone knows why Dick Lebeaux "resigned" ?

After 11 years, was time to move on I guess. Plus Steelers D likely to need a rebuilding job and at 77, Dick might never see the benefits of such a rebuild, a few long time Steeler players need to be let go. Problem some pressure from within the Steelers as the heir apparent Keith Butler either needed to be promoted or he was going to leave.

Maybe he just wanted one last new challenge with another club.

Offense is still questionable at Buffalo. Orton gone. Manual still a question mark. O-line needs improvement. Running backs may be needed, Jackson is 34, Spiller may leave and has yet to improve much beyond his rookie season level, Dixon entering his 6th season has never been the main RB on a team in the NFL. Jackson at 34 could be done at anytime, Spiller could be gone, Dixon is not a heavy duty back.

Garrett close to signing a new 5 year deal with dem Cowboys, according to Schefter.

I've honestly never seen him shout or call plays or get angry or do anything, other than clap. Just stands and claps. But Jerry seems to love him.

Romo loves him too. 5 years means nothing in the NFL, the job security is dismal that he is still odds on to get sacked anytime.

Just finished watching Jimmy Johnson: A Football Life. One of the best episodes by far. I'd recommend anyone watch it. What an amazing coach, a genius and seems so happy in his retirement.

Not a fan of Garrett but he's the perfect Jerry Jones head coach - doesn't mind the puppet strings and happily accepts his place in the organization. It's going to take more than one good season to win me over that he's the second coming of Tom Landry. I wager he doesn't finish this contract.

I would put the over/under at 1.5 years, but Jerry would hate to admit he was wrong so that may not be conservative enough.

It's all downhill for Romo and in due time Demarco Murray from here though. This was their last good chance to win it all.
