The Sexy Rexy era in New York has ended.

Won't be surprised if he's quickly hired as a defensive co-ordinator. He always seemed to cause Brady quite a few problems.

If the Bronco's were smart they would hire him as a consultant for the post season. Stick him in a dark room, no contact with players or media (especially Wes Welker), just watching film and drawing up 5 blitz packages for the inevitable AFC championship game against the Pats

Rex will be missed. He had his faults but was ultimately screwed by an inept FO. I'd second @gormless if I wanted the Patriots to get another chip :D He would be a great fit as a head coach in ATL, or a DC in most places

I can't wait for the 49er's implosion. Bunch of idiots. Harbaugh is the best thing that happened to the organization in recent years, getting them to 3 consecutive NFC Championship games, one with Alex Smith and twice with Kaepernick. Its a long shot that someone will come in and match his accomplishments without a clear out and lull.

Someone please assure me Harbaugh won't accept the Michigan job.

Goodbye Trestman and Emery. Thanks for tying Cutler with a $54 million guaranteed contract.

Dallas at Green Bay would be a sexy tie. Best home record vs best away record. Plus its my team vs my brothers team haha.

I agree, SF getting rid of Harbaugh looks a silly move. Is it because of their record this season? If so, thats crazy. Cant see who will go there and improve the organisation tbh.

Seattle have picked up momentum at the right time, was hoping earlier in the season they would miss out.

It has to be more than that. He must be difficult to work with, or he must have found it difficult to work in SF. There has to be some other reason, because he is two years removed from a Super Bowl loss, one year removed from a 12-4 and a NFC title defeat. I remember there being a lot of rumours last offseason that he wanted this to be his last year in SF. I don't remember the reason(s), but there were already rumblings

@adexkola Pats couldn't face the Colts in the Championship game unless the Steelers lost to the Ravens.

Right gridirontards, what's the deal now for the Broncos?

They've got a bye now for the next round, then what?

I've got pretty well to grips with actually following the games by now, but this playoff malarkey eludes me.

Break it down for me @Eboue

Right so there are 6 playoff teams in the AFC. The winners of each division are seeded 1-4 based on their record. Those 4 are

New England (12-4)
Denver (12-4)
Pittsburgh (11-5)
Indianapolis (11-5)

New England beat Denver head to head so they get #1 and Denver gets #2. Pittsburgh beat Indianapolis head to head they get #3 and Indianapolis gets #4. Then spots 5 and 6 are filled by the 2 best teams who didn't win their division. These are called wild cards. This year we have Cincinnati (10-5-1) at #5 and Baltimore (10-6) at #6.

Now obviously with 6 teams they can't all play on the first week, so the top 2 seeds get a week off and automatically advance into the 2nd round as a reward for their performance. Then seed 3 hosts seed 6 and seed 4 hosts seed 5. This year that means Pittsburgh hosts Baltimore at 8 pm on Saturday and Indianapolis hosts Cincinnati at 1 pm on Sunday. Those games (like all playoff games) are straight knockouts.

So after this upcoming weekend we will have 4 teams left. The top 2 seeds (NE and DEN) plus the two winners of this weekend. We don't know which seeds will advance, it could be 3/4, 3/5, 4/6, 5/6. But no matter what New England gets the lowest seeded team at home and Denver gets the highest seeded team at home. (low seed is actually higher numbers here and vice versa, to add to confusion)

Denver can't get the lowest seeded team next week, which is #6 Baltimore. New England can't get the highest seeded next week, which is #3 Pittsburgh. So if Pittsburgh wins, that's who Denver is hosting. If Baltimore wins, Denver hosts whoever wins the Sunday game.

Brilliantly explained, thank you.

@Cina was wrong about you.

They play the highest seed left after the wild card round. If Pittsburgh wins, they'll play them. If Baltimore wins, they'll play the winner of the Cincy/Indy game. With their injuries and Manning generally being a bum, they might win one but they'll get housed by New England.

Nice one, @Eboue I had never read it in such clarity before. (Assuming it's the same for the NFC)

Also Suh must surely get a ban, what a dickhead move.

Haha lolzy

That play from Earl Thomas last night was something else. Cant wait for the playoffs at home in Seattle. If there's one team I wouldn't want to come up against its probably Dallas. Even so think we can get to another Super Bowl if we play to our best.

Haha lolzy

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Been mediocre for weeks now. I tend to think he's got some sort of lower body injury cause he's throwing flutter balls but come on. This is the sort of shit Brady was doing and folks were saying he was done. They better hope they don't play Cincy again. Cincy can pressure with 4 and play coverage very well.

He's had a thigh injury hasn't he?

Still more use being out there whilst limited seeing as he's basically an on field offensive coordinator.

Just read Brady's restructured his contract again and that gives the Pats $24 million more to spend. Hope that money goes towards keeping Revis on a long term deal.

Nice move by Brady. Looking to improve the team to get another ring rather than just max his contract. Not that he needs the extra money when the wife's making millions herself.

Glad that fatass Suh is banned. Hope his appeal fails too. Lions are a dirty team and Suh is the biggest one. Free agent and a good player but will stop a few teams from punting on him (although he should still attract quite a few and get a good contract)

20m to keep Revis, saucy. Maybe/hopefully he'll negotiate a lower deal.

Last time he did it, went badly. Welker wandered off to Denver, Hernandez murdered someone, and Amendola was signed to be number 1 receiver

Dirty play by Garcon led to a mini-brawl in the end zone during Dallas' ass-stomping of Washington. Garcon was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a blindside hit both launching himself and leading with crown of helmet.

This is a no win situation. I would love to have him suspended and fined more, but a secret part of me wants him to play and stop DeMarco Murray, so that Lions win and go to Seattle.

Yeah, he needs suspension and more games.
