NFL Thread 2014-2015

I'm torn on the Pro Bowl, normally I'd watch, any football is better than no football, but tonight it's in the same time as the Royal Rumble. Bah.

Same with the Rumble.

Its also sometimes sad to see defenders not tackle (whilst understandable) but then again, Ive seen Packers players do that in playoff games so...

I'm asking because I've never watched it before and wondering if its worth tuning in? I remember seeing a highlight about 2 years ago of a load of laterals but it was basically walking pace

It's a glorified flag football game practically. No blitzing is allowed and the defenses might as well not play. And the league recently changed the format from AFC vs NFC to where two former players hold a draft and pick a team. It's something I would have imagined Bud Selig doing in baseball not the commissioner of the NFL. I'll pass on watching it, as I most often have.

To set the record straight, I am not an Eagles fan. Although I do not enjoy gridiron football, I like the Pats above the other teams. (Mostly because of the cute-o-meter test. (Personal appearance of quarterback). Also I went to Uni in Boston.)

Back to Stobzilla: I am available for hire to punch someone's head off.

Just reading that the NFL are considering narrowing the goal posts to make field goals and extra points harder. Not sure how I feel about this. Remove even more of the 'foot' from football.

It was something like 20% narrower in the Pro Bowl and Vinatieri missed a couple of PATs (taken from the 30yd line I think).

I like the idea. FGs and PATs are pretty easy currently, narrowing it makes the play more exciting and could make coaches consider going for it on 4th down. Wouldn't mind it if they trialled it in the pre-season to gauge the response from players & coaches.

What about shortening up the play clock? Good thing? Bad thing? Would it lead to more action or more teams taking a conservative approach to offense since they would not be able to make as many substitutions?

They need to just get rid of PATs entirely, same as kick-offs. They are relics of a time when the game was played entirely different.

And in the case of the kick-off at least, quite dangerous.

I can't work out if Lynch is an idiot or a genius

Gronk is amazing.

Media day has to be horrible for the players. Thousands of reporters, many of who do not cover the sport, asking the same questions over and over. Then you get some reporter who will ask something really dumb either because they do not follow the sport or because they think they are being clever. I'd be tempted to not show up and just pay the fine.

I say draw numbers from a hat and that player must kick the FG/XP!

I would like to see the elimination of FGs is the offense has a first-and-goal situation, even if they lose yardage.

I'm going to the "Super Bash" at the O2 in London so won't be on here alone cheering for Seattle on Sunday.

Golden Tate and KC Chiefs cheerleaders will be there too..
